  1. QUOTE (mr_genius @ Jun 9, 2010 -> 06:21 PM) gold Black gold!
  2. Quentin with the hard ground ball single up the middle.
  3. QUOTE (Lillian @ Jun 9, 2010 -> 08:00 PM) I posted a similar comment a few days ago, in another thread, but I'll repeat it here. Why not package A.J. and a reliever, perhaps Jenks and trade for Chris Davis? He has the potential to be the left handed power hitter this team is missing. He's blocked by Smoak, and has struggled lately, after a pretty impressive season in 2008. Because the Rangers are in bankruptcy right now, and that deal as proposed is asking them to take on about $9+ million in salary.
  4. QUOTE (iamshack @ Jun 9, 2010 -> 08:59 PM) He'll find a way, he always does. They'll dump AJ, Paulie, Putz, Jenks, Jones, maybe even Freddy. They'll get prospects in return and trade some of those for something they like in the offseason. They'll sign a few more vets in the offseason. Then take another run at it with the core of the rotations, as well as Q, Beckham, Alexei, and Rios. At least that is my opinion. I could believe that. I could even see it working...if Quentin and Beckham and the pitching ever appear.
  5. Nice swing PK14. Nice to see a team other than us give up a run on a throwing error.
  6. Flowers and Kroeger both 2/3 with HR. Viciedo with, wha? 2 walks? That has to be a mistake.
  7. QUOTE (iamshack @ Jun 9, 2010 -> 08:53 PM) Jeesh, that kid looks like the real deal as well. Didn't know Juan was this good of a defender. Boesch wasn't even in their top 25 prospects coming into the year.
  8. Juan Pierre with 2 great plays in the 4th inning.
  9. Juan Pierre just stole a HR from Brennan Boesch.
  10. QUOTE (Jordan4life @ Jun 9, 2010 -> 06:30 PM) So if he gets through this year unscathed the possibility of him ever landing on the DL the rest of his career disappears? No, but it goes up dramatically if they're stupid with how they handle him this year.
  11. QUOTE (justBLAZE @ Jun 9, 2010 -> 06:55 PM) No need to rush prospects period, Gordon Beckham is painfully enough to watch. The good news with Flowers is that he can be brought up now without it costing him a year of arbitration time, and if he's going to struggle in the big leagues, we can get those struggles out of the way now.
  12. QUOTE (justBLAZE @ Jun 9, 2010 -> 06:25 PM) "if we do something it will be along the lines of shuffling the deck with the expectation that we're going to add impact guys to win" - KW via Cowley I think that man might be lying to himself. He didn't say when they'd be impact guys though.
  13. And suddenly Lillibridge may actually get PT.
  14. QUOTE (WCSox @ Jun 9, 2010 -> 06:03 PM) As we're painfully aware, CF is also a difficult position to fill. I'd sell Rios for the right price and all, but it'd have to be a deal I couldn't refuse. Rios is signed through the next four years with a TO for 2015, making him the logical piece to build around. He's also 29 years old and frankly is unlikely to keep up this pace for the next 2-3 years, already expensive, and could be a major grab for a contender this year.
  15. QUOTE (StrangeSox @ Jun 9, 2010 -> 05:41 PM) You have the freedom to stop being so lazy and earn more money, like a good American. You figure out how to convert between γOs (t) and 187Os/186Os without putting the numbers into Excel and I'll be much more productive.
  16. D'Oh More details at link.
  17. QUOTE (LVSoxFan @ Jun 9, 2010 -> 05:23 PM) Here's what I'm unclear about: okay, so he's a goner because who doesn't want a good catcher, etc.? What exactly would we get in return for him that would make it worthwhile getting rid of him? Or is it really only just to dump him before the 5/10 kicks in? If nothing else...we'd be hoping to get a team to pick up the remaining $4 million on his contract. If we're smart about it, we might target some lower level guys or some guy who is blocked somewhere, and thus get a guy who in 2-3 years looks like a steal. We're not going to get anyone MLB-ready and top flight. If we're throwing in the towel for this season, and possibly cutting salary for next season, then it makes zero sense to waste $4 million on paying AJ for the rest of the season, when Flowers or Lucy could come up for next to nothing and have it not cost them arbitration years.
  18. QUOTE (WCSox @ Jun 9, 2010 -> 05:20 PM) The Sox can't afford to move good bats... basically because they don't have very many signed through the next few years. They're basically going to have to rebuild around Rios and Beckham (assuming that he pans out). If D1 doesn't agree to a contract extension, I agree that you consider moving him as well. If he goes to FA, the Sox won't win a bidding war over him, nor should they try to. The other way to look at that though is...how many $14 million bats can the Sox afford not to move? At least in my world, if you're doing the full firesale, the guys you have to trade are the guys who's value isn't likely to go any higher. If Rios keeps rolling through July, that's a description that I think fits him well. The guys you hold onto are the guys who are underperforming, unless someone overpays you for them.
  19. Don't just shorten your link...make it suspicious and frightening. http://5z8.info/-php-deactivate_phishing_f...-48-_i3q7k_guns
  20. QUOTE (SoxAce @ Jun 9, 2010 -> 05:11 PM) Ya I just resaw his numbers.. May really f***ed him up. Still is walking more than Danks though. His K rate in April wasn't much better, 21 k's in 62 AB's. That's still "Worse than Adam Dunn" territory. If he's hitting 40+ home runs a year, fine...but until he hits his 35th HR some season, I'm going to worry.
  21. QUOTE (SoxAce @ Jun 9, 2010 -> 05:09 PM) As long as he is walking at a good pace (has 3 BBs this month too, and he's always K'd alot, but produced a very good BB% rate too) to go along with the power, he'll be fine. It's bad, but it isn't Jordan Danks bad. Actually his K rate is worse than D2 by quite a bit. He's in Mark Reynolds territory...which tells you what he needs to have happen with his power numbers to be a productive player.
  22. QUOTE (WCSox @ Jun 9, 2010 -> 05:05 PM) We're not going to be competitive next year unless this team gets ridiculously lucky. My guess is that Kenny tries to move Mark this winter (and he may have difficulty doing so) and basically concedes next year. The "reloading" will have to wait until 2012. If you're going to move Mark, then I think you start looking to move D1 as well. He'll be a FA at the end of 2012 and he'd be an increasingly expensive luxury before then. Of course, I still think you start trying to move Rios too.
  23. Yes, Flowers was doing some serious swing work at the start of May, and said he was trying to go back to it after a few weeks of struggling. His problem continues to be K's. He's struck out 8 times in 19 at bats in June. That's not going to go away.
  24. Done.
  25. QUOTE (Jordan4life @ Jun 9, 2010 -> 04:57 PM) I'm used to Mauer. I was thinking "new wave" guys. Austin Jackson is nice. But not as nice as some of those others stars or soon to be stars. Oh yeah, Scherzer.
