  1. QUOTE (NorthSideSox72 @ Jun 4, 2010 -> 03:20 PM) Um no, did you read the article? temp help has sped up significantly. 31,000 last month in fact. So it says the opposite of what you are saying here. The article is in fact stating that it did grow a lot since the bottom, but that contrary to the belief some held, it didn't result in similar gains in permanent jobs. Which is not surprising given the very slow recovery, so naturally, that will cause a balloon and extension of temporary help, as companies move more cautiously. Take a look at the graph. Compared to previous months, temp hiring has dropped from 60,000 temp jobs to 30,000 temp jobs.
  2. Some other data to throw into the stewing pot.
  3. QUOTE (Athomeboy_2000 @ Jun 4, 2010 -> 03:03 PM) OOPS! Deleted my comment Balta1701: beating you to posting the thing you wanted to post since 2005.©
  4. Hiring of temporary workers has also slowed considerably.
  5. QUOTE (NorthSideSox72 @ Jun 4, 2010 -> 02:46 PM) Manufacturing is still surging, maybe almost too much. The collapse of the Euro is going to hurt that. A lot.
  6. QUOTE (mr_genius @ Jun 4, 2010 -> 01:47 PM) whats your point? The dotted path could easily be the start of the 2nd dip. Especially when we fire a couple hundred thousand teachers this year.
  7. QUOTE (mr_genius @ Jun 4, 2010 -> 01:11 PM) http://www.nytimes.com/2010/06/05/business.../05jobs.html?hp a terrible jobs report. the private sector can't support all these new government 'jobs'. at least the census stuff is temporary. need more private sector jobs The dotted line on here excludes census hiring.
  8. Bye bye, Pensacola.

QUOTE (Steve9347 @ Jun 4, 2010 -> 11:46 AM) The little debut of "Good Cops" a few weeks ago was hilarious. I'm excited for the season to get going on Monday, and highly recommend it based on that preview episode. I watched the whole thing. It was flat out hilariously bad. I think my wife may divorce me if I try to put the 2nd episode on.
  10. QUOTE (LittleHurt05 @ Jun 4, 2010 -> 11:12 AM) Best pure hitter of this generation and along with the Big Hurt, the only two that you could be at least 98% positive that they were not juicing. SI. com does a cool analysis to see what his numbers would look like if he wasn't hurt every year in Cincy. It put him at 722 career homers. Stark did the same thing and got 777.
  11. QUOTE (Rex Kicka** @ Jun 4, 2010 -> 11:12 AM) This is an anagram I don't understand. OR TIAAIDU It's become a standard use anagram. Google it. It's ok if you're a Republican. Like, for example, things like visiting a prostitute or having an affair and trying to cover it up. Horrible if you're a Democrat, it's ok if you're a Republican Senator.
  12. QUOTE (Jerksticks @ Jun 4, 2010 -> 10:48 AM) If we send Castro packing as well, don't we just become the Rangers and their catching carousel? Hell, even if we keep Castro we might have 3 sub-par catchers all year. I wouldn't be surprised if it's also possible to move Castro before the deadline, and I wouldn't have a problem with him getting >50% of the catcher atbats if AJ is moved in order to see if he can string together a few good at bats. Guy could always hit LHP when he was with the Mets, and there's always going to be someone willing to trade for a backup catcher, even if all you get back is the next Lance Broadway.
  13. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Jun 4, 2010 -> 10:39 AM) I'd include Joe Johnson and Dirk Nowitski in that list. I think Johnson actually is likely to be a late signee...because I think his best shot to cash in, unless he stays in Atlanta, is to wind up with 4 teams having the cap space to offer a max deal but Lebron and Bosh are off the market, so one of those teams (NYK) offers him a max deal just to land something. I put Amare in the same boat. No one intelligent is offering them a max deal on day 1.

QUOTE (Thunderbolt @ Jun 4, 2010 -> 10:22 AM) Now, his production is such that he'll never be called up. So, nobody wins here. He has to cut down on the K's. There really is no other way to say it. He's not as doomed by them as D2 since he's a power guy, but if he can't figure out how to do that, his best numbers will be 40 HR and a .210 batting average/.290 OBP.
  15. John Wooden in hospital, described as in "Grave" condition.
  16. QUOTE (Jenksismyb**** @ Jun 4, 2010 -> 10:10 AM) Yeah, I had a feeling the longer that draws out the more I'd lose respect for him. He's becoming a bit of a drama queen. Becoming? He became that a long, long time ago. Now is just a question of how far down the rabbit hole he wants to go.
  17. QUOTE (iamshack @ Jun 4, 2010 -> 09:31 AM) Ooh, good eyes, Balta. I hope that was indeed part of the reason for his recent oppo power... He's been far away from the plate and he's been over-loaded on his stance, so he's been unable to generate the speed needed to drive the ball when people work him outside; everything outside has been a popup or a weak ground ball because he's been late on it. His opposite field power surge might well be from him getting back on the outside corner...combined with every pitcher working him outside because that's where he's been weak.
  18. I still say...if you can get Bosh or Wade to sign on the dotted line on day 1, you do exactly that and walk away content. Putting up with this "all glory to the hypnotoad King tour" is going to be Hell.
  19. That pitch...was a 99 mph fastball.

QUOTE (Thunderbolt @ Jun 3, 2010 -> 09:06 PM) This organization is paying the price for telling Flowers to screw with his swing. 0-2 with 2 K's and a BB. Down to .209. They'd have paid the price when he was called up if they didn't.
  21. Soxnet game writeup: Carlos Quentin has a shiny new batting stance.
  22. The simple way my eyes see it is; Flowers has spent the last month sucking. I won't be mad if he's called up, but I won't be mad if they give him another month+ in AAA to work through his swing issues.
  23. QUOTE (Jordan4life @ Jun 3, 2010 -> 07:31 PM) Classic case of you can't replace 25 players so blame the manager. That roster has been deplorable. Led by Matt Wieters and Adam Jones, who have both been massive disappointments. Beckham for Weiters + Jones. Anyway...when talented guys disappoint, who gets the blame, is it the talented guys alone, or is it the staff of the team as well? (This question applies equally well in Chicago).
  24. QUOTE (Athomeboy_2000 @ Jun 3, 2010 -> 09:21 PM) It's only a matter of time until Mark Kirk says he never actually served in the military. IOKIYAR
