  1. QUOTE (Milkman delivers @ May 29, 2010 -> 11:50 AM) He was a great hitter long before he met Walker. But he was a terrible hitter shortly before he met Walker. And he wasn't this good of a hitter long before he met Walker, either.
  2. Hawk and DJ think that was an incredible catch? That was a good catch but not worth replaying the next night.
  3. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ May 28, 2010 -> 10:07 PM) I remember watching Ryan do all of those drills in Old Comiskey Park. He seemed to turn out all right. Sometimes, patterning your behavior after a freak of nature is a path towards failure.
  4. QUOTE (since56 @ May 29, 2010 -> 04:18 PM) I didn't say he got hit on the wrist. I said he can't risk getting hit there since the wrist injury. Come to think of it he hasn't been the same since. Never healed right? He had a few weeks at the start of last year and at the end of last year when the foot didn't seem to be bothering him when he was just destroying the ball.
  5. QUOTE (fathom @ May 29, 2010 -> 07:13 PM) Pierre has got to stop bunting. He must be 2-20 this season when bunting. It's a part of his game, and it's not a bad part most times. He just shouldn't bunt towards Longoria..
  6. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ May 29, 2010 -> 10:36 AM) Sorry, but that is completely garbage. They never abandoned their nuclear program. They were always working behind the scenes, whether the UN wanted to find it or not. No, they never completely abandoned it. I'll agree to that. That doesn't change the fact that they did 95% of the work while we decided that the right way to deal with them was to not talk to them and call them evil for 4 years. Even if that wasn't the truth...you can't seriously sit there and tell me that turning our backs on them for 4+ years did the least bit of good. We stopped it when they tested a bomb for crying out loud!
  7. QUOTE (Jordan4life @ May 28, 2010 -> 06:10 PM) I expect them to win the central with relative ease. Between having another bat from the LH side finally developed (Votto...seriously, check his numbers, they're better than you'd have imagined) and having developed some legit young pitching, and having reinforcements on the way...don't count the Reds out just yet.
  8. QUOTE (Jordan4life @ May 29, 2010 -> 01:36 AM) Miguel Cabrera had himself a night. And yet the Kitties still lost.
  9. QUOTE (StrangeSox @ May 29, 2010 -> 10:16 AM) Well, if government is so easily bought, sold and manipulated, it really is useless. eta: useless for actually protecting public interest, not useless for protecting corporate interest. Then we need to start fixing the bloody system, because there's no individual or private company that is going to police itself. When you've got corrupt cops, you don't disband the police force.
  10. QUOTE (kapkomet @ May 28, 2010 -> 08:36 PM) Because it is? But, whatever, you all just think it's a little law that does nothing. I thought my side thought it was a big f***ing deal? I'm confused.
  11. QUOTE (kapkomet @ May 28, 2010 -> 08:02 PM) And prior to that, they had no clue... it was CLEARLY George W. Bush's fault, because that's all you know how to think or say in every thought that oozes out of your mind. They had every idea how to do it, but they weren't doing at the time because all the equipment was monitored by the UN under international agreements that they were somewhat following. They threw all that out the window in their 2002 tantrum, and wound up with the bomb because of it.
  12. QUOTE (kapkomet @ May 28, 2010 -> 09:47 PM) That's also why my prediction was/is exactly right. He only put skin in the game (yesterday's spectacle) only when it looked like they would make some progress on (daddy) plugging the hole. Problem is, BP knew it and made him look like a dips*** (not that it's too hard). With that said, it can't be two months more of this. They better figure out how to drill faster on those relief wells because that's the only thing that looks like it will ultimately work. So...you're saying that BP is only trying the Top Kill to embarrass the guy who has covered for them as much as anyone? They can't drill a faster relief well. You try to drill faster, you break your drill or you cause another explosion.
  13. QUOTE (StrangeSox @ May 29, 2010 -> 09:14 AM) edit: What was the environmental fallout from the Iaxtac well? That was a huge amount of oil, but it obviously didn't destroy all of the Gulf fisheries. You don't exactly hear about much fishing in the southern Gulf near Mexico, do you? Because that would cost companies like BP money and make Kap have to pay another cent per gallon on his gasoline. That's absolutely intolerable. Business knows how to regulate itself. Oil drilling is now very technologically advanced and platforms don't cause spills. Drill baby, drill. Seriously...you know why they're allowed to do this type of drilling if they don't have a solution to a blowout or any sort of backup plan? Money. They have enough of it that they can convince politicians and 47% of the voters that drilling offshore is safe and actually makes a difference in terms of national security, and renewable energy systems aren't practical so we can't do anything but drill. And they have enough money to make sure that even if they need to have people watching over their shoulder, they can elect people who fill the regulatory offices with people who'd rather watch porn, and then they point out "See, government is useless!"
  14. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ May 28, 2010 -> 11:42 PM) Its not just two games if you guys had been watching. At least to my eyes though...not too many more.
  15. QUOTE (greg775 @ May 28, 2010 -> 11:45 PM) I expressed the same sentiment. Was told that teams in the NL will realize it's a weaker league and he'll do better there and/or the fact a change of scenery and their pitching coach will fix him. FTR I love Jenks. No one thinks we'd get anything of value for him other than salary savings that might help us pay for a non-terrible closer next year.
  16. Let's risk this... Becksy.
  17. QUOTE (joeynach @ May 28, 2010 -> 05:38 PM) This is from MLBtraderumors.com "ESPN.com's Buster Olney has heard that Ozzie Guillen and White Sox GM Kenny Williams do not have a good relationship at this point." And Buster has heard it from the same place we all heard it, in the Tribune this morning.
  18. Ok, now I'm worrying. Come on guys, this s*** needs to work.
  19. QUOTE (witesoxfan @ May 28, 2010 -> 04:59 PM) John Ely has made 6 career starts. They can disagree all they want, but you can't turn a dog into a wolf. Hell, with the way he's started his career, I don't think there's any way they aren't thrilled. Worst case scenario I think it looks like he's behaving like a middle of the rotation guy who throws a lot of strikes and will be excellent at saving their bullpen. For several years at pre-arb prices, they're celebrating.
  20. QUOTE (fathom @ May 28, 2010 -> 04:59 PM) Well of course you came in after the Cardinals retired the Cubs in the 8th (with the tying run on deck). Check around, I wasn't the only person saying the Cubs were creeping back into it. I know, i know. Doesn't mean I can't enjoy it.
  21. QUOTE (fathom @ May 28, 2010 -> 04:40 PM) Well, Cardinals haven't scored any runs against the Cubs mop-up relievers in 8 innings, and Cubs are creeping back into the game. WHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA
  22. QUOTE (witesoxfan @ May 28, 2010 -> 04:55 PM) To get back to the point in question, there's no way you give up a player of Quentin's talent level for Fukudome. I understand he's struggled quite a bit this year and last year, but he's still got 30 HR power. Fukudome doesn't have anything near that. Hell, Q only got 350 at bats last year, was barely able to walk for 1/2 of those, and still hit 21.
  23. QUOTE (Thunderbolt @ May 28, 2010 -> 04:11 PM) I was more weirded out by us benching A.J. for Castro. We should be exposing A.J. to as many scouts as possible. Against a tough LH pitcher? If a team doesn't know what they're getting with AJ by now, then they have some serious scouting issues.
  24. QUOTE (Jordan4life @ May 28, 2010 -> 04:17 PM) That's got to be one extremely small sample size. And Price is a lot better this year anyway. The Sox picked up 3 runs and drove Price from the game after 5 earlier this year in 1 of his 2 losses.
