  1. QUOTE (greg775 @ May 27, 2010 -> 05:45 PM) Games take too long anyway. Hitters should be hacking. I love this line showing up in a Joe West thread.
  2. QUOTE (fathom @ May 27, 2010 -> 05:23 PM) Also, don't discount the fact the NL has realized how to pitch Holliday. Fastballs inside, and you'll cut down on his productivity. The same thing was said about him being unable to hit in the AL last year.
  3. QUOTE (fathom @ May 27, 2010 -> 05:25 PM) Ha, we don't play Monday? I would have thought for sure we'd be playing on Memorial Day. You know, that is pretty crazy scheduling.
  4. QUOTE (fathom @ May 27, 2010 -> 05:19 PM) This is when Ozzie needs to step up and say "Tampa sucks against LHP this season. Buehrle only went 3 innings last game, so we're going to have him pitch Sunday and then you get Monday's game". Then, Ozzie sends Buehle to the mound Monday night, and is confused when no batter or umpire stands in against him and the stadium is empty.
  5. If the Cardinals need to worry about anything, it's their starting pitching, if Penney can't come back soon, now that Lohse is out. Of course, I can offer a perfect solution to that...one "Freddy Garcia" would be an excellent fit there in the back of their rotation.
  6. Holliday is also a career 2nd half hitter. .888 OPS in the first half, .983 in the 2nd half. He's not going to continue putting up the .754 OPS he's putting up in May either.
  7. QUOTE (fathom @ May 27, 2010 -> 05:18 PM) I would have said they'd have no chance based on how the Cards started this year, but that offense of the Cards seems to have some bad mojo. Lohse might be done for the year, and who knows how Penny returns from injury. J. Garcia has been filthy for the Cardinals so far this season in their rotation. Some of the Cubs hitters that started hot are slowing down now, but D. Lee is picking it up. Crazy that the Cubs have 11 wins between Silva and Marshall. Just to allow me to translate: Cards offense picks up some bad Mojo = Albert Pujols only putting up a .800 OPS in May. Now really, I'd love for you to explain to me why I shouldn't expect that problem to fix itself.
  8. Hopefully minor setback/pause being reported.
  9. Stark. Liriano put up a 0.93 ERA in April and 5.28 in May. Batters hit .180 off him in April and .313 in May.
  10. QUOTE (greg775 @ May 27, 2010 -> 04:45 PM) Geez, umps need to wake up then. Dropping your glove? f*** that. If it's at the Cell, he stays in the game I think. Some have mentioned this, but the ump situation has been out of control a long time. And it's impossible to correct it because of the umpire's power in baseball. You can't tell me umps did not reinvent the strike zone. They continue to squeeze and not call the letter high strike. It is a f***ing disgrace and I've been convinced for years it is an umpire conspiracy to screw the people they are supposed to be working for and serving. They are working for themselves and with their own strike zone have flipped off baseball for years. Nothing pisses me off more than seeing them squeeze pitchers game after game. They definitely have not called the high strike in my lifetime. But...I will say that I think the game-to-game consistency of calls around the corners has improved quite a bit in the last few years, now that the umps are being graded electronically.
  11. And the Cubs take the lead on 2 triples in 3 batters.
  12. QUOTE (TitoMB @ May 27, 2010 -> 03:55 PM) Buehrle dropped his glove towards the umpire.. he showed aggression. Clearly, he could have seriously injured West with the glove. Bah, that's a classic case of showing up the ump over a call. I think a lot of umpires would have tossed him for that. Very few would have called the balk.
  13. That says 10 employee deaths, not suicides, correct?
  14. QUOTE (greg775 @ May 27, 2010 -> 03:42 PM) Are the Suns gonna cover tonight? 7.5 points. I would think they will but Lakers might blow 'em out. There's probably just as good of a chance of a blowout as there is the Suns putting a great game together. 2 wins on your home floor can be a momentum and confidence builder.
  15. QUOTE (Jenksismyb**** @ May 27, 2010 -> 03:40 PM) Stupidity? Republicans, we don't hate hispanics, we're just dumb. I can't beat that one. I'm out!
  16. QUOTE (Kalapse @ May 27, 2010 -> 03:42 PM) Believe it or not but the 3rd place White Sox's closer situation isn't exactly front page news right now in the Chicago sports landscape. There's a few more important things going on right now, not that the amount of media coverage on the subject means anything. We totally need to make Byfuglien our closer.
  17. QUOTE (greg775 @ May 27, 2010 -> 03:32 PM) Give Bob a day off. It's not like he's overworked.
  18. QUOTE (Jenks Heat @ May 27, 2010 -> 03:24 PM) I am getting the feeling that the Paper Tiger (CQ) is having injury issues. In May, Kotsay's putting up a .955 OPS, Jones is putting up a .750 OPS, and Quentin's putting up a .635 OPS (.581 on the road). Even if he's healthy, he hasn't earned playing time right now.
  19. The NBA has rescinded one of Perkins's technical fouls.
  20. QUOTE (Jenksismyb**** @ May 27, 2010 -> 03:05 PM) Oh it absolutely is. It's the same as spending billons on the war on drugs. People will find a way to cross the border whether you send the NG there or not. Heck, build a wall the entire length of the border (another huge waste of money) and they'll still come across. Gotta change the culture. Shore up the jobs (MASSIVE penalties for employers) and they have no reason to be here. No reason to be here, no border crossing. End of story. So, then let me ask you...why do you think this action is happening? Why do you think that there's also a large chunk of the Senate that thinks that this is 1/12th as much as the President ought to be sending?
  21. QUOTE (Jenksismyb**** @ May 27, 2010 -> 12:45 PM) By rule it's only racist if a white Republican does it So, would you be the one who cares to argue that it's a waste of resources? I see 2k5 has no interest in doing so.
  22. QUOTE (vandy125 @ May 27, 2010 -> 01:35 PM) She had been on the job for only 11 months. This goes back further than just her (yes, it probably does include her too). First of all, she deserves to be fired for the crappy organization of the response. Secondly, if she's had 11 months to start cleaning that organization out, and hasn't done it, then this disaster shows how important it is to get someone on the job who can. Third...At least someone's being forced to fall on their sword. Frankly, I'd rather have trophy scalps than give out medals and promotions for failure. That said, yeah, you're right, this drilling site and drilling plan was approved before she was confirmed and was therefore approved by the previous administration's people, so it's not like this is all her fault.
  23. QUOTE (NorthSideSox72 @ May 27, 2010 -> 12:53 PM) After his shortened outing, I wouldn't rule out that the bring MB into the rotation for this series. That'd be one way to give JP an extra break.
