QUOTE (Athomeboy_2000 @ May 26, 2010 -> 12:54 PM) Facebook Group - f*** Joe West Has 62 members Frankly, I thought his rant against the 5 hour Yankee/Red Sox games this year was deserved and right on.

QUOTE (fathom @ May 26, 2010 -> 12:53 PM) Saw Randy was in the game, and I was worried Buehrle got hurt. I love that him and Ozzie got tossed!! That's not sarcasm either. Why?

2010 Cubs Thread
QUOTE (witesoxfan @ May 26, 2010 -> 10:41 AM) It's funny that Pujols is struggling yet is putting up a .941 OPS. Not that I disagree...comparatively speaking, he is struggling...just that it's awesome when a player is so good that what is generally regarded as very good for a player is struggling for him. But...only an .812 OPS in May. 1.085 in April.

So NOW you have a problem with the government targeting political opponents with surveillance mechanisms?

OK, Randy Williams got hit in the leg. Here's your solution: Williams pitches as far as he can in this game. The Sox then say "Randy Williams has a bruised foot and is going to the 15 day DL". Call up Torres, and there's your long man for the next 2 weeks.

Phillies scouting Jenks and Putz
QUOTE (WCSox @ May 26, 2010 -> 12:11 PM) Mark Buehrle is getting paid an ace's salary and has been almost as bad this year. Where's the indignant outrage over his performance? Buehrle's ERA is 4.38 right now. Peavy's is 6.05. Neither of them are pitching like aces, but only 1 of those would get removed from a rotation if it was done by a rookie.

Peavy expresses concern about tired arm
QUOTE (Chisoxfn @ May 26, 2010 -> 11:24 AM) It won't happen. He'll pitch through this. He's got to get sharp. His stuff has been there for plenty of the starts, his command has just been shoddy most of the time. Depends on how you define his "Stuff". Are you talking about speed on the fastball as the only measure of his stuff, or are you talking about movement on his fastball and bite on his slider? Because a lot of starts (i.e. last night) he hasn't had either of the latter.

A Cold Weather Super Bowl!
QUOTE (Athomeboy_2000 @ May 26, 2010 -> 10:12 AM) I'd have to do the research... hopefully I'll have some free time at work today... but I would imagine NYC is more "moderate" that time of year than places like Chicago and Green Bay. And yes, I use moderate loosely. Whatever research you do you can throw out the window anyway, because whatever the trend was before the early-mid 90's may as well be thrown out.

2010 Cubs Thread
QUOTE (NorthSideSox72 @ May 26, 2010 -> 10:12 AM) Yeah I agree, the Cubs are not an upper echelon team at all. I think if things go well, they are a 3rd place team in the NLC. Could be 4th or lower if things don't go well. If "EVERYTHING" went well, and that includes very improbable events like Soriano hitting 30+ HR and staying healthy and Carlos Silva pitching like a #2 starter and Carlos Marmol never hitting that mid-season slump he usually seems to find, and on top of that, an injury hits the Reds or Pujols continues to struggle, I could see them competing for the wild card, but that's about it.

Peavy expresses concern about tired arm
QUOTE (jphat007 @ May 26, 2010 -> 09:47 AM) How about the 60-day DL instead Why? You think he needs surgery on something? You've done an MRI on his arm recently? What did it tell us?

Peavy expresses concern about tired arm
QUOTE (Chet Kincaid @ May 26, 2010 -> 09:49 AM) I have an even better idea... How about when June 1 rolls around, he's sent to the Cardinals or the Cubs or to the Mets or some other NL team in exchange for some prospects. I think maybe he belongs in the NL. No one's giving up crap for Peavy right now. You woulnd't even get prospects if you paid a chunk of his contract.

I figured that this was a good counter-point to the post in the other thread saying that the ARRA had obviously done nothing.

Peavy expresses concern about tired arm
QUOTE (hogan873 @ May 26, 2010 -> 09:38 AM) I think we're already nervous. Peavy has been very disappointing outside of two good starts. His saying his arm is tired is bad, obviously, but also sheds some light. If he can do some "treatment" and pitch well on Sunday I'll have some hope. But he needs to string together about 4 very good starts to gather some believers again. I wonder if, once June 1 rolls around, it might not make sense to give Peavy a 15 day "Tired arm" DL trip and give Hudson a few starts.

Peavy expresses concern about tired arm
Based on my reading, I think the Whitesox.com article is somewhat less inflammatory than the title, but when Whitesox.com writes that title I'm going to get nervous.

Driving Into Chicago
QUOTE (G&T @ May 25, 2010 -> 09:02 PM) So I am going to be driving from Albany, NY to Palos Park on Friday. This is a 13 hour drive. We are trying to figure out when the best time to leave is. The latest we will leave is 4 am, but we will get to northwest Indiana heading into Chicago at around 4pm on the Friday of Memorial day weekend. Anyone have any idea how bad the traffic will be? Will most people be heading the other way? Should we be leaving earlier? Thanks! Heading into Chicago in the afternoon is "usually" not bad, depending on construction and accident schedules. If you're really worried about traffic, know your bypass routes. (i.e. going into the city you have the choice of 80/94, the road I hate more than any other road I've ever driven, and 90 - the tollway). If 94 jams, there are usually 2-3 roads you can take north up to hit 90 and still be able to reach the city

The environment thread
QUOTE (StrangeSox @ May 26, 2010 -> 07:04 AM) Balta, you can't excuse government ineptitude in either case. Neither the various government agencies nor BP were equipped and ready to handle this situation. I'm not. In the Katrina case...the government ineptitude was because the people in charge didn't care one bit about FEMA, and used it as a place to put their college roommates. In this case...the government ineptitude comes from the exact same place that it comes from in the financial crisis...the business world has no interest in dealing with a qualified review and oversight process, so they have bought off the process.

A Cold Weather Super Bowl!
QUOTE (Milkman delivers @ May 26, 2010 -> 08:31 AM) I have no actual support for this, but I have to imagine a very good percentage of people at the Super Bowl are not the biggest of fans (people with a lot of resources and connections). The ones of them that matter are in luxury boxes.
