  1. QUOTE (fathom @ May 13, 2010 -> 02:55 PM) With Mauer playing in that monsterous park, I don't see anyone else putting up big numbers to compete with Cabrera this season. Miguel Cabrera, currently: 7 HR, 33 RBI, 1.092 OPS. Justin Morneau: 8 HR, 23 RBi, 1.138 OPS. And it's been cold. Evan Longoria: 8 HR, 29 RBI, .988 OPS, for a 1st place team, in the AL East, playing 3b, and 5/7 on SB. Not even bothering to write up Mr. 13 HR or Mr. Cano until they keep it up for a full season, but they're 2 and 4 in the league in OPS currently, with Cabrera at 3.
  2. QUOTE (fathom @ May 13, 2010 -> 02:47 PM) Just give Miguel Cabrera the MVP now. Hitting over .500 with RISP. Yeah, because he's going to keep that RISP batting average up the whole year. You just argued against yourself.
  3. QUOTE (Controlled Chaos @ May 13, 2010 -> 02:09 PM) They were everywhere. Most were harmless, but quite a few we're pretty aggressive. This was Sept 05...not sure if things have changed. If you're going to be living on the street, you may as well do it in a place where you're not going to freeze to death. Frankly, after the last 2 years, I'd imagine its even worse now.
  4. QUOTE (KyYlE23 @ May 13, 2010 -> 02:04 PM) Can you imagine seeing Noah Lebron and Rose streaking down the court on a fastbreak? I dont know who could stop them Apparently...Lebron can figure out a way to stop himself.
  5. QUOTE (StrangeSox @ May 13, 2010 -> 01:33 PM) why the hell do we value a shiny rock so much, anyway? It has an awful lot of uses in electronics and other industrial applications.
  6. QUOTE (KyYlE23 @ May 13, 2010 -> 01:51 PM) absolutely, I said this a few days ago. All is forgotten when you put on the jersey As long as you win. And in the playoffs.
  7. QUOTE (mr_genius @ May 13, 2010 -> 01:30 PM) you also get no minority preferences, because, well you are still technically white. Tough. i can still walk down the street.
  8. QUOTE (Jenksy Cat @ May 13, 2010 -> 01:13 PM) I'm confident that Beckham and Fields aren't even in the same sentence together when it comes to prospects. And since Carter was just a "sox prospect" how do you know he would be good? He's worked with Oakland's hitting coaches. And if there's one team known for turning out great hitting prospects over the past couple years, say, since they started testing for things, I think of Oakland.
  9. QUOTE (mr_genius @ May 13, 2010 -> 01:12 PM) i talked it over with the powers that be, and you still don't get an exception. you just gonna have to teach a different class. Too bad, I'm white, the exception is automatic.
  10. QUOTE (mr_genius @ May 13, 2010 -> 12:54 PM) i don't know what you look like, but i doubt you are getting an exception. By that phrase, of course, I meant "People who don't look like white males, age 21-64". It's obviously perfectly ok to come up with angry sounding legislation for people who don't look like that even if it doesn't do anything. It's the conservative way.
  11. QUOTE (KyYlE23 @ May 13, 2010 -> 12:54 PM) he earned his rep as a showboater And, IMO, this is why I expect him to take 3+ weeks making his decision on where to go this summer. Because he'll be the #1 story on sports news for 3+ weeks. "Today, Lebron's plane flew over Dallas, and Lebron looked out the window. Could a Cuban/James matchup be in the works?"
  12. QUOTE (fathom @ May 13, 2010 -> 11:38 AM) With Sox prospects, you honestly never know. That's why I keep saying we need to get rid of Walker so that hopefully we can find someone who helps our young players make the adjustments necessary to succeed after the rest of baseball adjusts to them. I never thought Carlos Quentin would flop as much as he has since his magical season 2 years ago either, but right now, I'd rather have Chris Carter than him. And Walker had nothing to do with Quentin's magical season?
  13. QUOTE (bigruss22 @ May 13, 2010 -> 11:09 AM) And really besides being untrue I wish that was right now. How great would it be to have a bonafide replacement for Kotsay/JOnes (Jones just because of potential cost in resigning) and Konerko for next year. A Chris Carter type of guy would be awesome to have right about now. Hopefully Flowers and Viciedo pan out, because we are thin at that position. Well, I'm not sure if they count as Bona Fide, but we have guys in our top 10 prospects in AAA right now that can play all 3 of those roles (CF/OF, 1b, and Utility man who can play backup 1b).

X2>X1, Spiderman 2 > Spiderman 1. IMO, in some of these superhero movies, the sequel is actually set up to be better, because you don't need to spend 45 minutes introducing the character, you can assume the character exists and start off with a plot line. One of the complaints about Iron man2(have not yet seen it) seems to be a lot of dithering at the beginning.
  15. QUOTE (mr_genius @ May 13, 2010 -> 10:32 AM) tax money won't go towards ones that advocate overthrowing the government or promote hatred of other races. a non issue being sensationalized. these type of racial hatred classes shouldn't be tax funded, that is for sure. I find it impressive that an argument in favor of both of these bills is "oh it really won't change anything. You won't have all hispanic teachers banned from schools, you won't have any new random stops on the street for immigration checks, you won't have any classes that once existed being banned". Funny, I once thought that the great doctrine of "Conservatism" thought it was a bad thing to over-legislate. That if a bill wasn't going to make a big difference, it shouldn't be worth your time, because you're more likely to screw things up. That bills shouldn't be too long or complex (2000 pages, it must be bad!) Maybe there's an exemption in that rule for people who don't look like me.
  16. QUOTE (Jenksy Cat @ May 13, 2010 -> 12:33 PM) Way off on Durant. He's 22 years old. A scoring champion, and that was his first playoff series ever. He's gonna be dominant for a very long time I'm sure you could find people saying similar things after Lebron's 2nd season as well. Durant's not built like Lebron, but he looks like he will be a more complete scorer outside.
  17. QUOTE (docsox24 @ May 13, 2010 -> 10:29 AM) That article makes no sense than because he was moved off 3b last season before we even acquired Teahan. Really? He only played 2 games at 1b last season. Was he there in the AFL pre-injury? I don't recall the "Viciedo moving" official article happening until after the TeahEn trade.
  18. Oh crap, the Twins have wired their opponent's locker room specifically to allow them to annoy opposing managers.
  19. QUOTE (NorthSideSox72 @ May 13, 2010 -> 10:03 AM) This law achieves nothing in the objective sense, and yet causes EXACTLY the cultural tension they are supposedly interested in rooting out. Unbelieveable. You're pretending the stated reasons for the "carry your papers" law were true, and it wasn't just designed to harass anyone who isn't white. That's why it's unbelievable to you.
  20. Can anyone seriously read this and tell me that gold isn't the next bubble to burst?
  21. You folks will be nominating a former half term governor in sunny Tampa Bay, Florida, in 2012.
  22. Between Stupak's report yesterday, the report about how the MMS has since 2001 (convenient timing I know) been sitting on new regulations regarding blowout preventer quality, and this stuff, it sounds like BP is pretty clearly doing everything possible to cut costs on drilling. Shame they won't be held liable for much.
  23. Fox has renewed Lie to Me and Human Target. At least HT doesn't end with the unfulfilled cliffhanger.
  24. QUOTE (Lillian @ May 13, 2010 -> 07:06 AM) Yes, I noticed that as well. That's exactly to what I was referring when I said that his back foot was "especially further from the plate". Moving that back foot even further away from the plate, relative to his front foot, results in his stance becoming much less open. Thanks for the concurring observation. But it could also help keep him from being HBP.
  25. QUOTE (DBAHO @ May 13, 2010 -> 02:50 AM) Reading thru a lot of pieces about Lebron right now, a lot of people are comparing him to Tracy McGrady in terms of mental toughness. That when the going gets tough, he capitulates. Doesn't have the focus or intensity to make it out of the post season. I think that was said about the Bulls a lot under Collins/after the 'Stons beatdowns.
