Castro still in Arizona, will start season on DL

It could easily also be they don't want to start the arbitration clock on a guy they'd actually like to use in the future. -
QUOTE (Jordan4life @ Apr 4, 2010 -> 03:36 AM) This is somewhat interesting. I don't really see it playing a significant factor on who wins the central. But indeed something to look at down the road. By the way and this is kinda off-topic, but am I crazy when I say the NL west is arguably the second best division in baseball? That division is overflowing with elite talent. It seems like the "best division in baseball" moniker moves around a lot more rapidly than we'd like to think. Only 3 years or so ago the NL West was viewed as a debacle.

Save some of that for the regular season Viz.

Growth of Unpaid Internships May Be Illegal, Officials Say
Balta1701 replied to maggsmaggs's topic in SLaM
QUOTE (G&T @ Apr 3, 2010 -> 01:28 PM) Bad idea. I am working for free right now just to keep myself relevant and build skills while I'm getting another degree. In this economy, people would fall out of relevance quickly if they couldn't at least get in somewhere for networking etc. However, at every unpaid internship I've have my bosses have let me work on my time and they aren't demanding. Some places aren't so kind. One thing about industries where unpaid internships are common...the necessity of working one or more of those sort of internships serves as a barrier to entry in that industry for anyone who can't afford to go without pay for a period of months. In other words...take the news media for example...if you're a young, go-getting kid from a poor family, you could have all the skill in the world, but you're soaking in student loan debt, trying to pay for housing, you've got no health care until 2014, and you wind up working at some grocery store just to make end's meat while the legacy person who's dad owns a car dealership gets a job just because he can afford to take the internship for a few months without pay. It's a great way to keep those dirty minorities out of the news business. -

QUOTE (Thunderbolt @ Apr 3, 2010 -> 12:36 PM) Lucy better treasure the handful of games he's up for. With the early offdays and the fact that you can put a guy on the DL at the start of the season retroactive to spring training, I'd be surprised if he got a start. -

Kobe signs a 3 year, $90 million contract extension, guarantees he won't opt out and be a FA this offseason. -
Really, you went here, on Good Friday, with the Pope in the background? This is your official position? Seriously, these guys need to hire Ari Fleischer.

QUOTE (Benchwarmerjim @ Apr 2, 2010 -> 11:12 PM) I would rephrase that as 'people are making stuff up'. The Twins have no CF option if Span gets hurt (Cuddyer would play there in a pinch. He played a handful of ST games in center. Punto has played some CF in his career too. ). Revere impressed the Twins brass in camp and my gut feeling is that he would be called up if Span got hurt for an extended time. They'd put Cuddyer there over Young?

QUOTE (BigSqwert @ Apr 2, 2010 -> 12:02 PM) Edwards? Which has gotten more coverage. The man who had an affair and lied about it while not in office, or the man who had an affair, lied about it, and then used his position to try to cover it up, who happens to still be in office?

QUOTE (Chisoxfn @ Apr 2, 2010 -> 11:36 AM) Ya, its a very cool nickname. Never heard it till today but I think thats what I want to call him. I could go for it too...we'll see how it works if he makes me scream it in joy in some 9th inning this season, along the lines of the repeated yellings of "Oh God!" he provoked in 2008.

John Edwards did some crazy stuff and deserves more press coverage.

QUOTE (Y2HH @ Apr 2, 2010 -> 11:09 AM) Your health care costs are going up as they always have. I guarantee it. Of course they are, we're shooting for an annual target inflation rate of 2%, according to the Federal reserve. And thanks to the Fed and the stimulus, we've at least for now avoided a deflationary spiral.

QUOTE (chisoxfan09 @ Apr 2, 2010 -> 10:04 AM) Can´t argue with. Spots 1-4 are as solid as it gets. There aren't many better #6 starters on paper right now either.

QUOTE (Benchwarmerjim @ Apr 2, 2010 -> 09:35 AM) next year it''l be Mark Buerhle! We'll trade you him for Mauer if you pay 50% of his contract. Fair?

QUOTE (Y2HH @ Apr 2, 2010 -> 08:54 AM) Whoever changed the topic caption to the "affordable care act" shows how much they don't know about what just went down. I'll clue you in, from the inside. Prices aren't going down. If the Bush Administration can get away with the "Healthy Forests Act", the "Bankruptcy Abuse Prevention and Consumer Protection Act of 2005", the Patriot Act...then although you're wrong, even if you had been right, I wouldn't care. It's a pithy name.

QUOTE (Rex Kicka** @ Apr 2, 2010 -> 09:03 AM) Balta, when I first saw that, I thought it was an April Fool's joke. Turns out, I guess its not. I'm kinda speechless. Yeah. I had to check the video to make sure also.

QUOTE (Springfield SoxFan @ Apr 1, 2010 -> 07:29 PM) I found a lot of the Prime 9 picks and the order strange, Fisk's debut over Buehrle's perfect game..........Oh well, it is a good show though. Moment #2 was flat out wrong. It should have been Podsednik.
