  1. QUOTE (DBAHO @ Mar 17, 2010 -> 11:09 PM) The guy gets released from the worst team in baseball that's crying out for offense. He'll get a MLC offer or 2 from some teams, but I'd surprised if anyone offers him a major league contract. Just too much trouble, and you know how KW and Ozzie feel about the whole clubhouse culture thing. He got a shot from a big league team for basically 2 seasons and was regressing. He'd still be better than what the Nationals are going to put out instead unless they sign a FA OF (JD is available), but he's not even more appealing to me than our 6th/7th OF options (De Aza and D2: the Mighty Danks). I don't know if there are many teams that would even give him a minor league contract offer.
  2. (Hopefully) Final House CBO score is in. $940 billion total cost, $150 billion cut to the deficit over 10 years., $1.3 trillion over 20. Timing of this release is important because the speaker has a pledge to give all members 72 hours between the CBO score's release and the vote on the bill. This sets up the final House bill for mid-day Sunday.
  3. This horrible ad for Geico is worth enduring just to see who's dressed up in the Axl Rose style getup.
  4. QUOTE (NorthSideSox72 @ Mar 18, 2010 -> 09:24 AM) I'd say so, yeah. IF he spends both this year and next year in AAA and we're still talking about him stagnating next year...that's when I start agreeing we have an issue. Not beforehand.
  5. Oh, and Deng suffers setback, could be out another 1-3 weeks was yesterday's report.
  6. QUOTE (NorthSideSox72 @ Mar 18, 2010 -> 09:10 AM) I think right now that TCQ may be the worst defensive OF on the team, all things considered. I actually like the idea of him getting lots of time at DH. You'd probably be right regardless...worth noting though is that TCQ already seems to be moving a lot better than he was last year, and although he hasn't tested it yet I'm sure, he probably still has the best throwing arm on the team.
  7. QUOTE (NorthSideSox72 @ Mar 18, 2010 -> 09:12 AM) Depends on lots of things of course, not the least of which is when they were drafted. Then there's the obvious issues of both talen/skills, and performance. And position. And how much playing experience they had prior to entering the system. And who is in front of them or behind them at their position. Makes it really hard to peg an age, though I'd suspect its around 22 for high school draftees, and 24-25 for college draftees, for an average. Basically, my point is...even if he winds up repeating AAA next year, he'd still be on the young side for AAA, turning 22 in training camp next year.
  8. QUOTE (daa84 @ Mar 18, 2010 -> 09:09 AM) at this point id rather not make the playoffs and have the 1% chance that we got a top 3 pick than make the playoffs....if we make it we make it as an 8 and will get pummeled in 4 by the cavs and will end up with the bucks pick....if we miss the playoffs and end up with the 11th worst record at least theres that minor bit of hope that the NBA lottery is fixed and we end up with the #3 pick.....in which case I'd take Demarcus cousins, and go after lebron/wade/johnson Depending on where the cap falls...it's possible that getting a top 3 pick prevents the Bulls from being able to offer a max deal.
  9. The Bulls are only 2.5 games behind Torotno. If they got everyone back at 100%, they'd probably still make it. The only team falling apart faster than the Raptors is the Bulls. But...the odds of everyone coming back immediately at 100% are pretty low. Especially Noah. Hopefully VDN learned his lesson and when they tell him to "ease him into basketball again" he won't interpret that as "play him 27 minutes to win 1 game, you won't mind the 9 game losing streak that follows". In terms of the Bucks pick...we're still 6 games ahead of the Clippers with 15 to play for us. If the Bulls lost every game and the Clippers went 5-8 in their last 13 games, we'd wind up tied (and that would be a better winning %age than the Clippers have had so far this year)
  10. Most guys hit AAA when they're what, 23ish?
  11. QUOTE (kapkomet @ Mar 17, 2010 -> 10:26 PM) Man, what the f*** can be done without government saving us all? If the private sector would do something other than screwing us all over constantly...
  12. QUOTE (NorthSideSox72 @ Mar 18, 2010 -> 08:26 AM) I wasn't talking about the classic filibuster, I was talking about the procedural 60-vote hurdle, which like this deeming procedure... IS IN TEH RULES, and therefore is acceptable legally. But in both cases, its a bit sketchy, in my view. Hell, you could say the same thing about the classic filibuster. It's all in how each house writes its rules.
  13. John Boehner, trying to keep the spirits up of bank industry lobbyists.
  14. QUOTE (scenario @ Mar 17, 2010 -> 06:10 PM) Jones wants very badly to get regular outfield playing time. I read an article interviewing him a couple of weeks ago talking about it... Has a chip on his shoulder and wants to prove he's still "got it". Personally, I think Jones in CF and Rios in RF might be absolutely brilliant from a defense point of view. If they're both earning it with both the bat and glove and Q can keep his head straight while playing DH...I'm not going to complain as long as everyone stays healthy.
  15. Omar Vizquel is 4/21 on the spring in recorded A games so far.
  16. QUOTE (Thunderbolt @ Mar 17, 2010 -> 05:19 PM) I like Retherford, but i don't want to lose Nix for nothing. I really don't think he'd clear waivers. He wouldn't. You'd probably have to pull off some sort of junk for junk type trade if you wanted Retherford on the team and wanted to get something for Nix.
  17. JP: 5 IP, 6 k's, 1 ER, 1 HR, 3 hits, 2 BB, ~75 pitches.
  18. QUOTE (RockRaines @ Mar 17, 2010 -> 05:33 PM) If he starts in CF, you have Rios, Q and Pierre rotating in the DH spot. Not for long. I don't have any confidence he'll stay healthy as a starting CF.
  19. QUOTE (Cali @ Mar 17, 2010 -> 05:31 PM) He also thought Gordo made the team out of ST last season.... Had it not been for the arbitration rules, he probably would have been right.
  20. QUOTE (Tex @ Mar 17, 2010 -> 04:22 PM) This how we managed to get electricity to everyone. Private business was not interested in serving all of America. We privatized the electric grids in a lot of places over the last few decades, and I can't think of a single thing that's gone wrong.
  21. Medicare is underfunded by $38 trillion. Therefore, it is a terrible idea to do anything that could cut $500 billion from its expenses.

    Films Thread

QUOTE (FlaSoxxJim @ Mar 17, 2010 -> 03:58 PM) Brad Bird is a genius and The Incredibles is not just one of my favorite Pixar offerings, it's one of my favorite films period. And it would be a snap to serialize the franchise and do sequels ala' the comics that inspired the film. But I really hope they don't. Don't mess with perfection. I dunno, if it was well done...that's really a movie that to me cries out for a Sequel...if it had a good script. That could easily be a case like Spiderman 2 or X-Men 2 where the Sequel winds up better than the opening.
  23. Any chance Botts and Cabrera wind up in Charlotte?
