  1. QUOTE (Mattchoo @ Mar 15, 2010 -> 10:53 AM) Would De Aza be a good trade piece to add to any AGon deal? The Sox claimed De Aza on the waiver wire this offseason for essentially nothing. There's no reason to assume that his trade value is anything other than nothing until he comes up to the big league team and looks like a quality everyday major league player. Right now, he's a "you could have had me free if you really wanted me" level backup.
  2. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Mar 15, 2010 -> 10:39 AM) Of course he did. Did you honestly think he would stand behind something so stupid? Frankly, until the Dems decide they're going to act like the Republicans and start making people lose seniority over statements/votes like his, yeah, I'm surprised.
  3. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Mar 15, 2010 -> 10:02 AM) Why pass healthcare? Because then more babies can be aborted and the government can save more money! http://corner.nationalreview.com/post/?q=M...mE3Y2ZlZDQ5NTY= Looks like Stupak backed off that one pretty quick.
  4. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Mar 15, 2010 -> 09:34 AM) Times are way different, even than when Frank Thomas was coming up with the Sox. The difference between your first contracts and your superstar contracts now is so expansive, that it is much harder for small to mid market teams to hold on to their superstars because they can take up such a huge chunk of their payroll, they are rendered impotent to spend. That doesn't mean it would be a good thing for baseball.
  5. QUOTE (Thunderbolt @ Mar 15, 2010 -> 09:10 AM) He's not worthless at 3b, actually. He's about average there. He's worthless at SS. (Serious question)...how much can we take from last year's performance, when he'd only been a 2b his whole career up to that point?
  6. QUOTE (NorthSideSox72 @ Mar 15, 2010 -> 09:03 AM) They may see Flowers as a DH. If they do, then they need to deal him for a catcher.
  7. QUOTE (NorthSideSox72 @ Mar 15, 2010 -> 08:35 AM) That was my understanding. He'd get some time at C and all sorts of other positions this season in the minors, so that he could truly be a super-sub. It would allow the Sox to have Flowers and AJ (or some other two catchers) on the squad and DH one of them, if CJ is on the bench. I doubt they are considering it a full-time job for CJ, unless he takes to it unusually well (and catching usually takes a lot of years to get good at). If they'd wanted to do that with Flowers this season they should never have re-upped Castro. I could still see it being useful to have CJ able to be catcher #3 this year (you can PH for AJ late in blowouts, get him some extra rest, or not have him face a tough lefty and have less worry) but Flowers better start at AAA this year.
  8. QUOTE (MattZakrowski @ Mar 14, 2010 -> 09:00 PM) What's with the slight-moderate upgrade at the same position trades from Philly? A Beckham-Utley swap can't be far off. With the lefties in the middle of that lineup...Albert would be even more unstoppable.
  9. On 60 min. tonight Steve Croft had a great interview on the raping of everyone else by the banks (my phrase) that Michael Lewis details in his new book. First 2 segments.
  10. Ryan Howard for Albert Pujols trade talks?
  11. QUOTE (KyYlE23 @ Mar 14, 2010 -> 05:40 PM) Brady and Quinn were traded to the Broncos today for Peyton Hillis and picks(guessing the Bears pick). Nope. The Bears gave up a first round pick. The Broncos traded away a 6th round pick in 2011 and a conditional 2012 pick.
  12. QUOTE (BigSqwert @ Mar 14, 2010 -> 03:56 PM) 3 more weekends and I think this Ark will be finished. Now how do I round up all these animals? Give Governor Palin a helicopter.
  13. One of the Red Sox top prospects, 19 year old Ryan Westmoreland (5th round pick out of high school in 2008) is going to undergo brain surgery to try to correct a potentially life-threatening condition.
  14. Brian Roberts leaves Oriole's camp, going to have another doctor evaluate his back. He still hopes to be ready for opening day.
  15. Justice Thomas's wife starts new "Tea Party" style lobbying group, to be funded by corporate donors as recently allowed by the Supreme Court's Citizens United decision.
  16. QUOTE (Reddy @ Mar 14, 2010 -> 12:57 PM) so then why is it so rare we hear about them hitting populated areas? And why do they only hit poor people? Because when a magnitude 6 quake (btw, it's no longer called the Richter scale) hits an area that isn't poverty-stricken, the existence of things like building codes tend to save a ton of people. Case in point...the shaking from the Chile Quake was almost certainly stronger than the shaking in the Haiti Quake in several populated areas because it was so much more powerful, but in Haiti, basically every single building went down.
  17. QUOTE (Dick Allen @ Mar 14, 2010 -> 09:34 AM) Torres has to be the odd on favorite here if Hudson is destined for AAA. You need someone who can give you multiple innings, and to be the lamb during blowouts. Garbage time is the right time for Mr. Torres. He fills Nick Massett's old role. I did vote for someone outside the organization. I still think they may try to get another guy, especially with Jenks hurting and behind. We'll win more games if Santos can stay up as a reliable reliever who can be used fairly regularly than we will if Torres stays up to cover those 1-2 games where we desperately need a long reliever.
  18. QUOTE (kapkomet @ Mar 13, 2010 -> 10:56 PM) Car ownership is not mandatory, either. In a lot of cases, you can't live your life without it.
  19. On average, there is a magnitude 6+ earthquake somewhere in the world every 2 days or so. USGS stats.
  20. Delhomme signs a 2 year deal with Cleveland. Whoda thunk a year ago that the answer to the "Quinn or Anderson" debate would be "Delhomme and Wallace" within 8 months?
  21. QUOTE (knightni @ Mar 13, 2010 -> 06:51 PM) Hinrich's suspended for Tuesday's game after bumping a ref last night. Name a player in the Bulls opening day top 8 players left for Tuesday. Miller?
  22. 7-6 cubs lead on a 1 out walk followed by a bunch of ground balls and bloopers that just couldn't be turned into outs.
  23. Marquez has had 2 4-pitch walks, and they've turned into his 2 runs given up.
