  1. QUOTE (Tex @ Feb 5, 2010 -> 06:54 AM) It is a tool that is allowed in our government. I really have no problem with the GOPs using it. So would you also have no problem with the Democrats using the "Nuclear option" to end the filibuster?
  2. QUOTE (Thunderbolt @ Feb 4, 2010 -> 05:05 PM) I guess somebody in the division has to make active attempts at getting better. Do KW and Ozzie remember last year how even with our vastly superior pitching we lost the damn division on account of our offense? We've done literally nothing to improve on offense. We're counting on x-factors and lightning in a bottle. What KW has done is disassemble an offense that needed dismantling and replaced it with parts that appear destined to replicate the exact same meager offense as the one that came before it. We have no pop, no ability to get on base, we have a manager fixated on playing this team like an NL ballclub, and we have damn good reason to believe that one freaking move on the offensive end, would make this entire argument a wash. I’m incredibly frustrated right now. I went through being angry about it a couple weeks ago. Now I've just given up on being angry, and so I'm going to go back to being a homer and hope that Kotsay at DH can stay healthy and put up an .850 OPS and Jones can suddenly find a 25 HR swing and Rios will find his .850 OPS form and that Q will stay healthy and go on a 50 HR pace like he was on for the couple weeks he was healthy last year and Teahen can find some of that 2006 form where he was putting up a near .900 OPS. I know it's a lot to have happen, but I can't bring myself to be angry any more. I am going to taunt NSS with his post a month ago insisting that Vizquel would never DH when it happens, that I promise to be angry about when it happens, but I'm sorta spent on this one.
  3. So...Illini...um... South Carolina would like to thank you again.
  4. QUOTE (Steve9347 @ Feb 4, 2010 -> 04:05 PM) For 7 games and a ton of OTs and an early exit, sure. Frankly, I'd take that again from this team. That'd mean that they lost Ben Gordon, but did not actually get that much worse, which means that some of the guys they do have picked it up in his place. If the Bulls could then do a serious upgrade, like replacing TT with someone who won't be benched and Salmons with someone good, suddenly that's a contending team.
  5. QUOTE (EvilJester99 @ Feb 4, 2010 -> 04:39 PM) If they don't revamp that O Line it doesn't matter what offensive scheme Martz comes up with. I still think they need a RT, but the guys they have showed some promise down the stretch, williams in particular once you put him in the pass protecting LT spot.
  6. QUOTE (Alpha Dog @ Feb 4, 2010 -> 04:16 PM) Should the real headline have been changed to "Illegals bankrupt local public hospital"? This of course is another argument for why the immigration system needs fixed. Be nice if we had a working Senate that could have done that, either in 2007 or now.
  7. QUOTE (NorthSideSox72 @ Feb 4, 2010 -> 03:21 PM) Those help, no doubt. But the whole team has to make changes. 50% of their games will now be a different sort of game. I just think the chances of them thriving in that transition are low, even with some positive changes. So, instead of winning with players built for the Metrodome, they're instead stockpiling really good players and planning to win that way. I'd call that a good plan.
  8. QUOTE (Chet Kincaid @ Feb 4, 2010 -> 02:44 PM) Looks like the twins about to lock up Orlando Hudson. Should we be worried? If he stays healthy, that is a serious upgrade to one of their major weak spots. Yes.
  9. Former BofA head Ken Lewis charged with Fraud by NY Attorney General Andrew Cuomo. He better have a legit case. He just put his career on the line.
  10. Government investigating Brake Problems on the 2010 Prius
  11. Grady Sizemore apologizes for nude pictures of himself floating around on the internets.
  12. QUOTE (StrangeSox @ Feb 4, 2010 -> 07:32 AM) Coal plants put out more radioactive pollution than even our Gen II nuclear plants. (If you don't count the waste material)
  13. QUOTE (Tex @ Feb 4, 2010 -> 07:13 AM) Balta, the careers that usually pay well without a college degree would be in manufacturing, trades, sales (that's changing quickly). Law enforcement is starting to require college. That's not what I asked Tex. I asked what careers are still out there where you can get a good job WITH a college degree.
  14. QUOTE (NIUSox @ Feb 3, 2010 -> 10:14 PM) Just what everybody needs Joe Buck ruining even more sports. Tim McCarver announcing figure skating.
  15. QUOTE (dasox24 @ Feb 3, 2010 -> 10:37 PM) I'm pretty sure you can back-count the guys who enroll early to the previous year's class if you have spots open from that, which is how schools get around it. And the whole top of the SEC had spots left last year?
  16. If ya send me a reminder in early July I might be in the area.
  17. QUOTE (nitetrain8601 @ Feb 3, 2010 -> 09:58 PM) meet: I know. It's just remarkable the extreme to which they're taking it.
  18. Was Verlander a year closer to FA than Felix? I have difficulty figuring out why he'd be more expensive otherwise.
  19. How the Hell do you go 5-4 on that 9 game stretch...winning every hard game and losing every easy game, with all 5 wins bookended by the 4 horrid losses?
  20. Did they end the half priced monday promotion?
  21. It may be years before I can say again how I agree with Senator Lindsey Graham, so I may as well take the chance.
  22. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Feb 3, 2010 -> 04:18 PM) I just want to know when a college degree became the point of entitlement, and not an investment in the rest of your life? If you know you have to spend $100,000 to make an extra million dollars over your lifetime, that pretty much clears it up for me. Wow, do you guys plan debates around WSJ articles and then just expect me to find them and link to them? This is kind of incredible timing if you didn't plan this in advance. The WSJ posted this one...yesterday.
  23. This is an actual ad in the Republican race for the Senate Seat in CA.
