I struggle to figure out why the Ravens didn't ask for a review on that fumble. It seems like coaches are more than willing to waste challenges on things less than that.

Nothing Much Going On So Here's A Thought...
Anyway, for a guy who's never pitched in the majors and is still raw and like 20 years old, that's stupid money.

QUOTE (FlaSoxxJim @ Jan 9, 2010 -> 09:10 PM) Couldn't exactly manage that. 3.5-mile target depths and a scope of 7:1 would have required nearly 25 miles of cable. And the AUVs, despite an operational depth of 6,000m, have no capacity for in situ sampling. Aw nuts. I want more basalt.

QUOTE (mr_genius @ Jan 10, 2010 -> 11:38 AM) I think the trend of using temps permanently is here to stay and will increase in practice. Don't have to pay their health care, or for unemployment insurance, and the temps are easy to discard. So, in other words, it's another reason to set up a universal health care system; it puts permanent workers on an even playing field with temporary workers.

The Republican Thread
QUOTE (Alpha Dog @ Jan 10, 2010 -> 01:04 PM) Reid should at least have to step down from his leadership role. I recall Trent Lott having to do that for merely showing up at Strom Thurmond's party back in 2002? 2003? And if Reid is saying things like that in a leadership position, how many others below him are saying the same thing? And if they are saying that about Obama behind his back, what do they say about gays behind closed doors? Trent Lott's reign as majority leader fell because he went to Thurmond's birthday party and said "If Thurmond had been elected in 1948, we wouldn't have had all these problems". That alone probably wouldn't have been more than a minor tiff, but the Republicans were looking for a way to replace him anyway; that was right after an election and Bush/Rove wanted one of their own guys running the Republicans in the Senate. He'd have made it through fine if the guys at the top wanted him to.

QUOTE (LittleHurt05 @ Jan 9, 2010 -> 01:39 PM) It will be interesting to see how the Seahawks get around the Rooney Rule. They negotiated with Carroll and waited until he basically accepted the job to fire Mora. They still have to interview a minority candidate, but looks like Leslie Frazier is calling their bluff and not interviewing with them. Supposedly they are trying to get Ron Rivera to came in, dont know if he'd agree either with the position all but filled anyway. This is the one situation where the Rooney Rule is just kinda annoying. I know why its there, but come on, they fired their coach specifically so they could hire this guy. Even if they do the interview, the interview itself is just a joke.

QUOTE (jasonxctf @ Jan 9, 2010 -> 12:17 PM) oh absolutely. the only problem with that, in this environment, is that new small businesses can't obtain credit to grow/acquire what they need to get things off the ground. Better have some angel investors lined up. And no one wants to lose their health coverage and go into the individual market to start a small business either.

QUOTE (Ozzie Ball @ Jan 9, 2010 -> 11:32 AM) I think Getz is more or less maxed out. Maybe he ends up as a career .275 hitter rather than the .261 he hit this year but he doesn't have the skillset of a .300 hitter and I'd be very surprised if he ever hits for power or plays gold glove caliber defense. Getz screams backup infielder to me, and not even a particularly good backup infielder at that. The difference between .275 and .300 for Getz is pretty small. May never hit for power, but he's got good speed. Not GG caliber, but decent. I'd say he'll wind up being an average 2b with real legit skill on the basepaths. That's a middle-of-the-pack 2b for the league. He's not going to be an all star, but there's nothing wrong with that.

QUOTE (KyYlE23 @ Jan 9, 2010 -> 11:15 AM) The Wizards are completely erasing any sign of Arenas from their arena. They also fined 4 players that joked around with him in that team huddle pic 10 grand. Im sorry, but it is getting pretty ridiculous at this point. Im not denying that Arenas did something totally stupid and fine/suspension worthy, but Crittendon seems to of gotten a complete pass on the situation and they are talking about Arenas being booted from the league now. Crittendon will not get a complete Pass. Arenas will not be out of the league, but it'd be crazy for the Wizards to not try to void his contract. Edit: what I think you need to remember regarding Crittendon is...if it wasn't his gun, then the violation of the CBA is less direct, and they may need the full police report before they can act on him. Arenas has admitted publicly bringing weapons into that facility. The CBA says he gets suspended indefinitely for that. Quite clear. Crittendon picks up, loads, and chambers a round in Arenas's gun. But its still Arenas's gun, even if Crittendon is not the one holding it. That means they may not have the authority to suspend him without the police report without facing a legal challenge from the player's association that they couldn't yet win.

QUOTE (bmags @ Jan 9, 2010 -> 11:08 AM) ugh, that means we'll trade for them next year. BUt I highly doubt it, okay, maybe Pods, maybe Getz - but solid by such low standards. I think Getz is going to be a legitimately solid player. Good OBP, probably hit closer to .300 than he did this year, steal a good number of bases.

QUOTE (knightni @ Jan 9, 2010 -> 10:21 AM) Anyone else think that Baltimore's D is going to turn Brady into a stain on the grass this weekend? Baltimore's D is only middle-of-the-pack this season in terms of total sacks.
