  1. QUOTE (NorthSideSox72 @ Jul 9, 2009 -> 12:36 PM) If Poreda holds the Indians down (or mostly) for about 3 or 4 more innings, and we come back and win this game, Aaron will become legend with a lot of Sox fans who don't know who he is (those not on here, who don't follow prospects to speak of). That's exactly how Roberto Hernandez earned his roster spot 15 years ago.
  2. QUOTE (CanOfCorn @ Jul 9, 2009 -> 11:56 AM) Best convo: Hawk: I am sure we are going to score more than 6 runs today. Stone: Let's hope the Indians don't. Hawk never ceases to amaze me.
  3. Can we sign him to pitch a couple innings today?
  4. QUOTE (lostfan @ Jul 9, 2009 -> 12:13 PM) Who's a worse player, Andy Gonzalez or Brent Lillibridge? In what they've done at the big league level, Lillibridge.
  5. So, yeah, is it time for DJ to replace Richard in the rotation?
  6. QUOTE (TitoMB345 @ Jul 9, 2009 -> 11:53 AM) Hopefully he can regain what he had in May, because he was electric. It seemed no one could do anything to stop him. He's all but lost it completely. Not ready to give up on him for his career, but he definitely needs to go back to AAA. It worked for Contreras.. why not for Clayton? A bullpen stint for him could be effective medicine as well. With a lot of these young guys, figuring out ways to get people out and throw strikes when you don't have everything working usually seems to be the key step between being a 5th starter and being an effective middle rotation guy, and that's always what takes time.
  7. QUOTE (TitoMB345 @ Jul 9, 2009 -> 11:50 AM) Unfortunately, it's not May anymore. Three starts in May does not guarantee him a spot the rest of the year. Very true. But it also means don't count him out for the future.
  8. QUOTE (Greg Hibbard @ Jul 9, 2009 -> 11:48 AM) I have officially taken too much acid in my lifetime, because I'm sure as hell having a 2004 fifth starter flashback right now The 2003-2004 5th starter never put up a single performance as good as Richard was in May.
  9. Well, that's an inauspicious start to today's game.
  10. QUOTE (beck72 @ Jul 9, 2009 -> 09:51 AM) It's probably more like Kenny and staff saw Pena pitch when he was lights out and had him "in their sights" list, of players to acquire should they come available. Coop probably isn't consulted on trades but can fix something if he sees a guy throw in person. IIRC, that's what Coop had said in some past trades, that he isn't really consulted before a deal goes through. They reportedly didn't consult Cooper before grabbing Gavin Floyd, that one I can understand. This one...if they didn't have Coop's opinion of his "Fixability" before making the deal, then they made a really stupid deal.
  11. Different subject...Leon Panetta confirms to Congress that the CIA has been misleading them and lying to them. They don't say exactly what about, but reading between the lines of the whole "Republicans screaming because Pelosi accused the CIA of Lying to Congress" matter from a few months ago, I'd say the torture program is a very good guess.
  12. QUOTE (NorthSideSox72 @ Jul 9, 2009 -> 09:38 AM) I guess my ideal scenario when Quentin returns is to release Wise, trade Anderson for whatever you can get (someone will acquire him for something, I'm fairly certain), and then call up a guy who can play CF (so NOT Kroeger or Restovich). The question is, do you go with someone "more ready" but lower ceiling like Cook? Who you don't care about keeping on the bench? Or do you make a splash and call up Danks2? I personally would prefer Cook, but either one would be better for the big club than the current scenario. You absolutely do not call up D2: the Mighty Danks right now. Especially to be a bench player.
  13. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Jul 9, 2009 -> 09:39 AM) We did this with Danks, and Floyd, and Garland... These guys have to take their lumps to learn at the major league level. Danks actually regressed big time during his first year. Its not a big surprise that a guy who just became a full time pitcher in the last few years is taking more than a half a season to get it together. Besides, really even Ozzie has said, he leaves the pitching up to Cooper. It's also worth noting that with a number of those guys, we actually gave them time to either work out of the pen or sit on the bench later in the season.
  14. QUOTE (Stan Bahnsen @ Jul 9, 2009 -> 09:31 AM) It will be getting very close to "decision time" if Richard has a poor outing. Would Poreda get the first crack at it? DJC? Frankly it ought to be Poreda, but with Colon potentially making a minor league start he's also an option here in a few weeks.
  15. Gortat, meet Dampier. Dampier, Gortat. Gortat, Dampier.
  16. QUOTE (BigSqwert @ Jul 9, 2009 -> 09:28 AM) Anyone want to guess what Ozzie will do if Richard bombs? Does he keep him in the rotation for another start or 2? Haven't we already juggled our rotation so that he doesn't pitch again until after the break?
  17. QUOTE (Rowand44 @ Jul 9, 2009 -> 09:27 AM) lol, well played. And... http://sports.espn.go.com/nba/news/story?id=4315071 Fascinating. The corporate monarchy continues to hold...
  18. There have been signs that its been building for about 2 months now, but it looks almost certain that we're going to have a major El Nino event this year. Amongst the things this means are: 1. A weak hurricane season 2. Potentially catastrophic weather everywhere else. 3. Possibly a new global surface temperature record (passing 1998). 4. Possible breaking of some of the drought in California/Western U.S. 5. And an almost fanatical devotion to the Pope.
