Damn JD Drew had to have his one healthy season right after that and win a ring, otherwise I'd have been spot on.

QUOTE (kapkomet @ Jul 10, 2009 -> 03:45 PM) Evil motherf***ers. Throw them all in Guantanamo!!! We don't send murderers to Gitmo. Ergo, all murder is totally ok!

QUOTE (lostfan @ Jul 10, 2009 -> 02:36 PM) I thought most of this was already known? Or maybe it just sounds so damn similar to other stuff that came out. This is regarding some portion of the program that is still so classified we're only told how they were breaking the law to cover it up, not what exactly they were doing to break the law.

QUOTE (Chicago White Sox @ Jul 10, 2009 -> 02:30 PM) I think you're right. But it also might be a bad sign for Brian Anderson. Brian Anderson's hitting over the last 1.5 months is the only bad sign Brian Anderson should care about.

QUOTE (Athomeboy_2000 @ Jul 10, 2009 -> 11:57 AM) Uh oh! Bush surveillance program extended well beyond just warrentless wiretapping Spencer Ackerman has spent today going through that report. Some of the highlights: -The report found that Answers provided to Congress by then Attorney General Gonzalez were "confusing, inaccurate, and had the effect of misleading those who were not knowledgeable about the program." -"Most" of the work done had no connection to terrorism but the surveillance was done anyway. -The CIA conveniently never took the time to investigate what it was doing and whether or not it was either legal or effective. -There was for a long time only 1 person at the entire DOJ who knew what the CIA was up to: John Yoo, at the office of legal counsel. His boss at the OLC didn't even get the full report of what was being done. Once others at the DOJ learned about whatever program this was, they objected to it. Their objections were then kept from the President for at least a period of weeks while the program's renewal was being discussed. Mighty impressive. Whatever they were doing, they worked HARD covering their tracks.

QUOTE (Thunderbolt @ Jul 10, 2009 -> 01:54 PM) This doesn't bode well for Josh Fields. No one's dumping Josh Fields for Josh Kroeger.

WHAT THE HELL? Video at link of interview.

You guys are giving me the strong impression that it's only a matter of time before KW deals away a pitcher or two from those levels.

Former Sox Minor League Daniel Cortes Traded to M's

He was "The other guy" in the McDougal trade correct? The one who was at lower levels but seemed to be performing better than the top piece? -
Torii Hunter and Vlad Guerrero both to the DL.

QUOTE (Tex @ Jul 10, 2009 -> 12:24 PM) Can we call him less intelligent than Dan Quayle or Sarah Palin? No. He just has more out of control gonads.

ESPN's still running with it. Article by Stein and Ford. Notably, that's not an outright denial by Forman. -
QUOTE (SoxFan1 @ Jul 10, 2009 -> 11:25 AM) I cannot even begin to fathom why anyone would be down on Poreda right now and NOT give him an opportunity to start. I'd guess he's really not stretched out for 4+ innings/80 pitches right now.

If you're up for reading it, there's some more bizarre details coming out about this story and how the wife of the guy in the affair approached a Christian politician group that Ensign was a member of and people from that group literally walked with him to the mailbox to make sure he was actually breaking off the affair, etc.

Thought I'd fire off this bit from former labor secretary Robert Reich.

QUOTE (elrockinMT @ Jul 10, 2009 -> 09:25 AM) The Indians would want Gobble for the same reason the Sox did. Lefties are in demand. He can pitch in the bullpen and still has some value. What is a fair return is a question I can't answer. Pick a random player from the lower levels of the Indians system who is totally unheralded and probably has a 5% chance of ever making the big leagues and a 0.1% chance of ever being really good. That's fair value.

QUOTE (dbaho @ Jul 10, 2009 -> 09:44 AM) I'd say right now the smart money is on Lee re-signing with the Knicks because; 1 - His GF is from there and is desperate for him to stay there (former WPT host Sabina Gadecki) 2 - D'Antoni's system is perfect for his game even if D'Antoni doesn't like the fact he doesn't have a jump shot from outside 15FT. I'd say Nate Robinson's chances of staying are much less though. If he does, it'll only be for the 1 year qualifying offer. But here's a scenario. The Magic got a $8M trade exception in the Hedo deal. They could conceivably go after Milsap or Lee if they want to on a sign and trade deal, but they're more likely to use it during the season (Udonis Haslem?) according to Otis Smith. Can the Knicks resign Lee beyond next season and still have 2010 cap space? They're not screwing up their chances at Lebron for David Lee. -
QUOTE (PlaySumFnJurny @ Jul 10, 2009 -> 09:25 AM) Alan Keyes is probably both the smartest and most conservative politician alive. I've heard him criticized aplenty, but NEVER called dumb. Huckabee is pretty-right wing too, no? I haven't heard anyone attack his IQ either. And what about that Pat Buchanan guy? Never exactly heard him lumped in with Dan Quayle. Pat Buchanan is a fairly intelligent completely blatant racist SOB. He was the guy who came up with the GOP's "Southern Strategy" of tongue-in-cheek appeals to White racists that helped the Republican party to 30 years of dominance.

QUOTE (Chisoxfn @ Jul 10, 2009 -> 09:14 AM) Unless your getting a young win player or two from Portland. The Bulls also immediately save room under the luxury tax in almost any version of this deal, which could be used to sign another guard. -
QUOTE (lostfan @ Jul 10, 2009 -> 09:19 AM) Is this expanded? I'd be curious to see the rest. % of people with political science degrees, % of doctors, lawyers, and so on. I read somewhere that economists are mostly liberals. I can point you to a different survey for economists. The Economist survey of an economic number of economist on the economic proposals of the 2 non-economists running for President of, among other things, the economy.

QUOTE (Soxy @ Jul 10, 2009 -> 09:11 AM) So, by that theory, most of the people who have been CEOs of banks and companies that have gone under have been liberal. Or that must unsuccessful governments are headed by liberals--so liberal governments are likely to be less stable. That would be an interesting study. I can fire back some data in to this discussion. Not exactly on the CEO question, but occasionally (and conveniently enough, 2 days ago) people put out surveys of the political leanings of the educated. At least out of active members of the American Academy for the Advancement of Science (actual working scientists). They're Democrats by a 55 to 6 margin.

QUOTE (Rex Kicka** @ Jul 9, 2009 -> 09:50 PM) The day after the old cycle ends. It's more complicated than that though, because there are rules for what you can do with money if you have some left in the bank after an election cycle ends. -

QUOTE (BearSox @ Jul 9, 2009 -> 08:01 PM) M&M is easily the best duo in all of baseball, isn't it? Fielder and Braun, the trio the Phillies are throwing out there, Longoria and Pena are alternates that come to mind.
