  1. Loading the bases with 2 outs...yuck. AJ, can you go out and punch him?
  2. QUOTE (fathom @ May 11, 2009 -> 05:15 PM) Balta...do you know where to find a stat regarding #9 hitters vs the Sox this year? Not offhand I'm afraid.
  3. QUOTE (Chisoxfn @ May 11, 2009 -> 05:08 PM) Yep, he might not opt out anymore but the initial thought was that he was going to probably opt out at the end of the season. He probably won't have that sort of leverage though. After the last week, I can't imagine what it would take for him to opt-out. Who in their right mind would offer a 37 year old proven juicer a contract worth more than $20 million? (And GM's aren't going to be as stupid as some of the Fans who still say they support ManRam. They know exactly what the stuff he was on means.)
  4. QUOTE (fathom @ May 11, 2009 -> 05:07 PM) I would love to know how many Sox have been on base for Quentin in his ABs during the last two weeks or so. 2 quick outs, this offense is so boring. Prior to tonight, Q has had a man on base for 12 of his last 35 AB's.
  5. QUOTE (Chisoxfn @ May 11, 2009 -> 04:06 PM) Lets see. The Angels are still realing after losing out on Texeira and Vladdy is older, struggling and well not exactly the Vladdy of old. So clearly the Angels would be a team that would go balls out for Bay. Than you don't have to go much more North to identify the Dodgers as another option. Manny will probably be gone and the Dodgers could replace Manny's production with Bay. Plus the Red Sox would clearly be interested as well. I believe Manny's deal next year is a player option right?
  6. Also depends on Viciedo and Fields.
  7. Depends on where the Sox are sitting in the draft.
  8. Guys, guys, tax cuts pay for themselves. You can avoid any defense cuts by simply cutting taxes more.
  9. QUOTE (fathom @ May 11, 2009 -> 02:18 PM) Not only that, but what kind of message is it sending to the team where Nix comes in, gives the team good at-bats and great fielding, and then gets benched for 3 straight games? That you shouldn't do anything like what Brian Anderson does. That includes catching the ball.
  10. Like it or not, they would not go that far over slot money. If he fell that far, he'd be falling farther still. And frankly, I'm not sure I ever like investing that much in a pitcher, no matter who he is, until I know his arm can handle the workload. How many top talent pitchers drop down because of arm trouble when they try to get moved up to the full-MLB-season level? 33%? 50%?
  11. QUOTE (StrangeSox @ May 11, 2009 -> 07:17 AM) Obama Derangement Syndrome. The man can't even order a cheeseburger without being criticized. Did he say an appropriate Christian blessing before dining?
  12. QUOTE (kyyle23 @ May 10, 2009 -> 02:08 PM) I think being forced to put this lineup out there for the last two weeks is taking more out of him than Contreras No one forces him to do things like Batting Brent Lillibridge 2nd.
  13. Houston is up 18 at the break on the Lakers without Yao.
  14. QUOTE (knightni @ May 10, 2009 -> 12:56 PM) Whisler's not on the 40-man. I believe we have room.
  15. -The President during his comedy routine last night.
  16. QUOTE (fathom @ May 10, 2009 -> 11:27 AM) Yes, for both pitchers. So why was Konerko first pitch swinging?
  17. QUOTE (Princess Dye @ May 10, 2009 -> 10:06 AM) I dont know how to take this. is it like "well Wesley Willis DID write many long songs..." Rock over London, rock on Chicago. Wheaties, breakfast of champions.
  18. QUOTE (Thunderbolt @ May 10, 2009 -> 09:16 AM) Fontenot's the same way too. The problem with the cubs it that their becoming too reliant on "grinder types." They have the money to buy talent, so they should buy the damn talent. They have nonthing in the minors that isn't one or two years away. The big problem with that line of thinking is...how has buying the talent worked for the Yankees over the past 10 years? Even the Yankees haven't been able to buy enough talent to win a world series. Even the Yankees need a supply of young guys to fill holes or give them quality replacements or trade-bait.
  19. You know, I really think the treasury dept. right now is sort of hoping that some combination of the stimulus package and luck will save the banks and that they just need to get people to stop paying attention to them. There's really no other way to interpret this combination of information.
  20. The Junior Democratic Senator from PA had on his web page a link to something called "Specter for the cure", which looked like it was raising money for cancer treatment but in the fine print said it was raising money for Arlen Specter's reelection campaign. The site was rapidly altered after people noticed it...after they denied they had done anything untoward.
