  1. QUOTE (lostfan @ Apr 23, 2009 -> 09:11 AM) Right, I agree that there is no way that Danks is going to sustain a BABIP in the mid 100s. If he did he would have a WHIP of like .90 and lead the league in ERA by a full point. Which, honestly, would be kinda cool.
  2. QUOTE (southsideirish71 @ Apr 23, 2009 -> 08:29 AM) You spent a pretty high pick to pick up a guy who projects to be a plus offensive player at a premium position. Why exactly are we at a rush to move him to another position. Alexei will move to CF before they move Beckham out of the middle of the infield. If we really want to be overly long term about things...let's assume that D2: the mighty Danks projects as a CF. Or Shelby (hell, where does he usually play? No idea). Alexei is under contract for 3 more years. Beckham, we'd control for 6-7 starting whenever he came up. We're going to need to either extend Alexei or find a replacement for him before we're going to need to find one for Beckham, and we've got extra guys who pencil out to play CF already in the organization.
  3. QUOTE (lostfan @ Apr 23, 2009 -> 09:03 AM) Oh, then no (as far as I know). Unless they have purchased something from somewhere like North Korea, which is possible, the longest range missile publicly known from them is the Shaheen 2 missile, tested publicly in 2004. It has an estimated range of about 2000 km and can carry nuclear warheads. Here's a good graph of what each country is believed to be able to hit:
  4. QUOTE (whitesoxbrian @ Apr 22, 2009 -> 08:43 PM) I'd love him here. Everytime he touches the ball, he has the chance to take it for 6. People say we don't need another Hester. I ask you- really? We don't need another guy with world class speed with ridiculous talent, right? It's the "Too much of a good thing" effect. Yes, 2 speed burners is nice and can work, but it's not necessarily the best option. A QB, especially one with good footwork and scrambling ability, can benefit more from having a solid in-between option on the outside as well...someone that he can check down to when the protection breaks down. Now, I can't say for certain the Bears don't already have this, between their 2 TE's, Forte, and hell, throw in Wolfe while you're at it. If those guys can be solid "look to this guy 2nd-3rd" options, then the Bears can get by without the strictly possession receiver, but let's not pretend it can't be very useful. Some examples I can give of that type of guy; in their super bowl playoff run, Steve Smith became exactly that kind of counterpoint to Plax, where Plax was able to stretch the defense, but every time the play got to 3rd down, it seemed the ball went to Smith for a first down. Hines Ward can be that kind of guy for the Steelers a lot; get those 8-10 yard catches, get a few YPC, and keep the chains moving. Wes Welker comes to mind. In Carolina, Moose playing next to Smith. Etc.
  5. QUOTE (witesoxfan @ Apr 23, 2009 -> 08:21 AM) Hester has gotten better at that, but it's worth considering. Harvin came out of a spread offense, so he's going to be raw as is and might be limited to like 4th WR and returning this year, with the possibility of some wild cat thrown in. Now that the Bears have Cutler, I don't know why you'd want to take the ball out of his hands.
  6. QUOTE (iamshack @ Apr 23, 2009 -> 07:30 AM) Why do people keep saying BG can't create his own shot though? He creates his own shots all the time. Sure, he dribbles it off his knee alot when he drives, and can't finish too well at the rim, but that shouldn't be confused with creating his own shot. I've seen him create his own shots time and time again... I think the thing that was missing from the Bulls for about 5 years was having someone who could not only create their own shot but who could break the defense down and create shots for others. BG7 can create his own shot, but he's better off if you mix him creating his own shot with other people creating shots for him by drawing double teams or by breaking a defense down by getting in to the lane. Hence; you want him playing alongside either; a low post scoring threat like Gasol or Garnett (Why did people keep wanting them again?) or alongside a point guard who is dismantling the defense on his own (can we get one of those?).
  7. QUOTE (NorthSideSox72 @ Apr 23, 2009 -> 08:28 AM) I disagree here. I see no stabilization related to the events. India went nuclear some time in the 80's by most accounts, and wars continued. Paki went more recently, and they still nip at each other. The lack of all out war in recent years is more a factor of lack of central military control in Pakistan, its own fights in the north with Taliban and other tribes, and an economy that was collapsing some time ago. Yeah. For about 5 years there after they both tested their bombs, they were at each other's throats and probably the only thing that stopped them from actually having another war was international intervention. But especially now with the government instability in Pakistan...that situation has perhaps the highest potential for absolute disaster of anywhere in the world. Edit: And that doesn't take in to account the increased possibility of a mistake.
  8. QUOTE (BearSox @ Apr 22, 2009 -> 06:47 PM) Also, what do you think of Lincoln for suspending Habeus Corpus? The constitution explicitly states: The Supreme Court has, as far as I can tell, never actually decided whether Lincoln or the Congress's actions actually passed Constitutional muster. I'd lean towards saying it does. However, the employment of the suspension was in many cases disastrous, as authorities used their newfound power to summarily round up anyone they found troublesome. That is of course the problem...without the writ, there's no one to judge whether or not detentions are appropriate...and so there's no reason not to detain people.
  9. QUOTE (knightni @ Apr 22, 2009 -> 06:50 PM) Is Alexei slacking or something? No. 2 very slow ground balls to 3rd this inning. Just not fast enough to turn it. Montanez k's, ballgame, 8-2 Sox win.
  10. QUOTE (knightni @ Apr 22, 2009 -> 06:49 PM) Did Markakis score? Of course. Huff singled past diving Alexei, Markakis scored on FC.
  11. QUOTE (G&T @ Apr 22, 2009 -> 06:48 PM) Very slow DP attempt. 1 out, man at 1st. Very slow DP attempt. 2 out, man at 1st.
  12. QUOTE (G&T @ Apr 22, 2009 -> 06:47 PM) Thornton not making this easy. It's a 6 run lead now and Markakis was one of the hitters.
  13. QUOTE (knightni @ Apr 22, 2009 -> 06:46 PM) Did the game stop? Markakis led off with a double, I think we all just assumed it so no one needed to post anything.
  14. QUOTE (Texsox @ Apr 22, 2009 -> 06:33 PM) But starving people are desperate. I believe I just heard that piracy is the #1 economic enterprise in the country. #1. That has to be replaced or the government will fail. There needs to be basic food, shelter, and raiment. What government?
  15. QUOTE (BearSox @ Apr 22, 2009 -> 06:40 PM) It was unfair but they weren't treated horribly, and guess who was the president at that time... FDR, a liberal socialist very much like Obama. At least FDR was tough on the people who wanted to harm us, Obama would rather talk it out. So your logic is that FDR was a better president than Obama because he took a couple hundred thousand American citizens and detained them without cause?
  16. QUOTE (Thunderbolt @ Apr 22, 2009 -> 06:16 PM) BA is going to really turn it on sometime soon. As long as he's not an automatic out and he can occasionally knock in a run or be useful in generating the run, I'm happy with him at this level.
  17. QUOTE (Kalapse @ Apr 22, 2009 -> 05:14 PM) Anyone else worried that Josh has yet to hit a home run? What's up with this guy? In limited at bats, he's cut down on his k rate by about 10% compared to 2007.
  18. QUOTE (CryptviLL @ Apr 22, 2009 -> 05:07 PM) and markakis is up is it time for him to get out?? He's slightly due
