  1. QUOTE (lostfan @ Jan 31, 2009 -> 03:03 PM) I would take her over Darth Vader because compared to him she's harmless. But who was Dole's? I forgot. Jack Kemp. I'm not a fan, but he's not evil in the sense of compacting evil to the density of a neutron star, and i don't think the NFL does enough brain damage to most players to put them on the Sarah Palin level, so I put the 10 year cutoff in there.
  2. QUOTE (nitetrain8601 @ Jan 31, 2009 -> 02:40 PM) Pittsburgh or KC? Pittsburgh is a unique story, in that not only do they draft poorly, but when they draft well, they give those guys to the Cubs.
  3. QUOTE (Texsox @ Jan 31, 2009 -> 02:18 PM) Of course they did. That is the only way some people can explain any problems with the GOP. Sarah Palin was the best Republican VP candidate in the last 10 years.
  4. QUOTE (WhiteSoxfan1986 @ Jan 31, 2009 -> 12:44 PM) Sucks that Dent didn't get in. It's a complete joke that Fred Dean got in last year but Dent is still waiting. But the Pro Football Hall of Fame is a complete joke anyways. It was good to see derrick Thomas get in though. Really, the 6 person limit just doesn't work. Not with a team made up of ~25 regular starters, not counting the executives, broadcasters, random other special teams guys.
  5. QUOTE (Kalapse @ Jan 31, 2009 -> 12:51 PM) I'd also love a healthy Rocco Baldelli, Milton Bradley, Pedro Martinez or Ben Sheets. It's just not possible. I'm not sure I'd love a healthy Milton Bradley. I feel like he'd be less likely to hurt me if he was unable to catch me due to an injury.
  6. QUOTE (Kalapse @ Jan 31, 2009 -> 01:04 PM) Carlos Quentin is one sexy muthaf***er. That man has some monstrous hands.
  7. QUOTE (sircaffey @ Jan 31, 2009 -> 12:59 PM) I think it's unfair to judge a GM by the number of winning seasons he has, especially when you inherit a joke of a franchise. It's not easy to have winning seasons with a $40 million payroll. And before this year, he had payrolls of less than $30,000,000. To still be able to build and improve your club with little to no resources is astounding. To build it up to the point it is right now, is even more impressive. He's done things with $30 mil per year, that the vast majority of GMs in the league haven't done with $100 mil. Another point...do those salaries count the $8-$10 million in signing bonuses being given out to their top pick?
  8. QUOTE (sircaffey @ Jan 31, 2009 -> 12:43 PM) Friedman has to be there. It's astonishing to see what he's built the Rays into with the restraints he has. That organization was a joke just 10 years ago, and right now, it might be the best run organization in the majors, top to bottom. No one's done a better job of building their club, imo. There's another question though...how many advantages has he had in the process? 2006 Draft, #3 pick, Evan Longoria. 2007, #1 pick, David Price. 2008 #1 pick, Tim Beckham. You give almost any team in baseball the selection of draft picks they've had over the last 10 years and eventually, just by blind luck, they're going to hit a few that stick. Not saying he hasn't done a fine job and built up a solid org there, just wanted to point out the advantage he's had that other GM's haven't.
  9. Either this bottle of water is going to die, or it's going to kill whoever it is being thrown at.
  10. QUOTE (StrangeSox @ Jan 31, 2009 -> 08:08 AM) No. And at least amongst the high income earners, that's the way it should be. Anyway, I think Howard Dean would make an excellent HHS secretary.
  11. Looking good against the Clippers and Kings isn't saying a lot.
  12. QUOTE (farmteam @ Jan 30, 2009 -> 10:52 PM) Watch volcanos create new islands? I'm sure Balta can correct my horrible overgeneralization, but in my defense, I learned that in a class that Balta himself probably took back in the day. You can also bankrupt the country.
  13. QUOTE (kyyle23 @ Jan 31, 2009 -> 08:06 AM) Why would we want the Twins fixed? I think we mean it in the sense of a cat. So that they can't reproduce.
  14. QUOTE (greasywheels121 @ Jan 30, 2009 -> 06:10 PM) Peanut butter. Salmonella recalls do not scare me. I loved greasy when he was posting here. I wonder what ever happened to him....
  15. QUOTE (jasonxctf @ Jan 30, 2009 -> 04:33 PM) boy i can't wait to read all of the "i knew Jerry Owens was good" comments on the board, when he hits .280 with a .345 OBP and 50SB next year if he wins the starting job. those numbers, by the way, are basically his 2nd half 2007 numbers factored out for an entire year. I would really take that from Owens, as long as he's only CS like 10-12 times.
  16. Torrent going up rather than trickling down.
  17. QUOTE (Steve9347 @ Jan 30, 2009 -> 02:52 PM) I had the exact same conversation last night. Hinrich would make a lot of sense for both Cleveland and Orlando. No joke. Do the Magic have any contracts that would be of the expiring in the near future (2009 or 2010) sort? If I'm moving Hinrich that's all I want. That and maybe a couple draft picks.
  18. Reinsdorf and Del Negro going back and forth in the media, with JR being especially critical of the coaching staff.
  19. QUOTE (BigSqwert @ Jan 30, 2009 -> 01:51 PM) Congrats to new RNC Micheal Steele. Yes, the same Micheal Steele who did this when running for the US Senate in 2006. After the repeated ballots, the Republicans had to race through votes on a number of lower ranking positions to get out of the hall before 5 to clear space for the wedding party that had booked the facility next.
  20. QUOTE (NorthSideSox72 @ Jan 30, 2009 -> 01:47 PM) Look up. You beat me by that much...
  21. QUOTE (IamtheHBOMB @ Jan 30, 2009 -> 01:37 PM) Wasn't he a September call up last year? I seem to remember him being on the roster at some point. Did he look that good against major league pitching? 2 hits in 7 ab's. 1/2 stolen bases.
  22. QUOTE (DBAHO @ Jan 30, 2009 -> 01:10 PM) I think they trade Wally's deal for something at the deadline, because I still think they're missing a piece. Think they'd want a solid defensive point guard? I'm 100% serious.
  23. QUOTE (ChiSox_Sonix @ Jan 30, 2009 -> 01:32 PM) Loans. Thats what I did, thats what my siblings did/are doing (including grad school). Thats what most of my family did or will do. Also, by starting at a community college you save a lot of money. In this market, who's still lending?
