  1. QUOTE (G&T @ Jan 28, 2009 -> 06:48 PM) The logic makes no sense. According to him Vitters and Heilman is somehow better than Vitters and Olsen? Olsen + Cedeno = Heilman, therefore Vitters + Olsen
  2. QUOTE (Cubano @ Jan 28, 2009 -> 06:07 PM) You guys follow Fields more than I do. I got a question for you. Prior to his knee problems, was he good defensively or bad? If he was bad, I do not think 3 weeks with Cora would make a big difference. I have read he can not hit fastballs. You can not play in MLB if you can not hit the heat. Just remember, you are what you are. Players do not change much. Prior to Fields's knee injury he was at best below average at 3rd base. One would not expect 3 weeks to make a huge difference on its own barring some major technical issue he was missing. But it can't hurt. And while he's probably not going to develop in to an all time great, it is entirely possible for people to improve on defense given time, good coaching, practice, and repetition. Joe Crede was no where near the defender in 2001 that he was in say, 2006. Josh Fields certainly had an issue hitting good MLB fastballs when he was up in 2006. But based on raw talent alone, he was able to pound the offspeed stuff enough to put up quality numbers; 23 home runs and 67 RBI on a terrible team in 2/3 of a season. He clearly does need to improve against that pitch, and if he does not he will not last in the league...but that is again a mechanical issue, that may be correctable.

    SPAM Mail

When you get a spam email that includes a contact email address, even if it says it's a "Take me off of this list" email address, reply to that address. If they receive an email back from an address they instantly know it's real.
  4. QUOTE (Melissa1334 @ Jan 28, 2009 -> 05:21 PM) thats funny lol even if they magically made that happen, thatd leave them with 0 preospects, 30th in mlb as far as the minors goes lol How far are they from that point now?
  5. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Jan 28, 2009 -> 04:55 PM) I pretty much gave it. The cost savings keeps companies from laying off. That isn't reflected in the multiplier numbers as it isn't considered a new outlay, dispite the fact that it does keep money flowing through the system. That makes very little sense to me. The multiplier effect as defined in the linked document is "One-year $ change in real GDP per $ reduction in federal tax revenue or increase in spending". In other words, it is defined as what happens relative to no federal action being taken; aka in this case, no tax cuts. It does not matter if it is considered a new outlay by the business or not, all that matters is the impact on GDP. In other words, keeping people employed who's jobs otherwise would have been lost without a tax cut must be included, because their economic activity counts as part of the GDP. If in some fashion it didn't count that, as you claim, then the multiplier for a corporate tax cut would be even lower. The baseline is relative to no government action taken, not relative to where things currently stand.
  6. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Jan 28, 2009 -> 04:58 PM) To be fair there is a large peace movement in Israel that get harder and harder to be heard when a large portion of their country lives in a constant state of terror from missiles that can fall from the sky at any second. Is there actually data that shows what you claim? It's been my impression that for years, the hard-liners have been gradually losing support while support for a 2-state solution has continued to climb.
  7. QUOTE (kapkomet @ Jan 28, 2009 -> 02:34 PM) The cuts in corporate tax rates shouldn't be measured as a multiplier effect. That's the wrong way to look at it. In that case, I await your elaboration.
  8. It's a good thing the Democrats listened to the Republicans' objections on the Stimulus bill and pulled out some of those egregious things like repairing the national mall and covering contraceptives while adding $20 billion or so in non-stimulating corporate tax breaks rather than spending additional money on things like rails. Otherwise, the vote might have been much less bipartisan.
  9. Running tally of media appearances by members of Congress over the last few days to discuss the stimulus package. Go ahead...guess which party dominated the discussion. Now, guess which network was the closest to balanced. I'll bet you got 1 of those 2 right.
  10. QUOTE (SoxFan101 @ Jan 28, 2009 -> 02:53 PM) Isnt Boozer going to be a f/a this upcoming season, anyway we can find a way to sign him and maybe trade for another big man using Hughes expiring contract for next season? The Bulls have no cap space to sign a FA, they'd have to do a sign and trade this offseason. That is possible using someone like Gordon or Hughes or Hinrich or Nocioni, but that means that the other team would have to want the guy coming back at the price coming back. The reality is that teams like Miami, who have cap space this season, can outbid us by a bunch as things currently stand. If the Bulls make no moves (Including letting Gordon Walk) then they can have a reasonable amount of cap space after 2010, but probably not enough to offer a max contract to Bosh/Lebron/Wade without another concurrent move to clear a little more space.

QUOTE (chimpy2121 @ Jan 28, 2009 -> 02:30 PM) I might try that Buffalo Chicken Dip too. I'll prob make another dip as well. It is Hormel No Beans Chili, Cream Cheese, and Shredded Cheese. Microwave it, mix it, done. It is good with tortilla chips or Spicy/Sweet Chili Doritos. Yay! Anyone know a good fried cheesestick batter recipe?
  12. QUOTE (lostfan @ Jan 28, 2009 -> 02:35 PM) I would argue that the USPS advertises because they have solid competition. The issue I think I'd take with that is that I'm pretty sure by law the only people allowed to put things in your mailbox are your USPS letter carriers. Other services can bring things to your door, but in terms of mail, that's something of an enforced monopoly.
  13. QUOTE (SleepyWhiteSox @ Jan 28, 2009 -> 02:15 PM) I forget where I read that the first time... me too.
  14. QUOTE (Jenks Heat @ Jan 28, 2009 -> 02:00 PM) Then he will claim collusion....... Having Boras as your agent is always a risk and has already backfired on Crede. Didn't Kevin Millwood and Kyle Lohse also get burned. Both Millwood and Lohse got burned for asking for too much money at one point, but both of them signed short-term deals, had good seasons, and then turned them in to much longer deals than they would have gotten otherwise with more money.
  15. QUOTE (RockRaines @ Jan 28, 2009 -> 01:48 PM) There should have been SOMEONE from the power company who investigated this case before shutting him down, but there was probably so many cases lately of people just not paying for utlities that they lumped him in with every other person in the area who refused to pay their bill. Its not neccesarily a human right to be provided with electricity in your home for an extended period of time without paying. In that case, if there was a person at the power company who's job it was to do that, or if the power company was legally required to do that, then they could and should face criminal negligence charges. And I agree that having such a requirement is a reasonable level to take this to.
  16. QUOTE (RockRaines @ Jan 28, 2009 -> 01:14 PM) I honestly dont remember when it was and I agree its very inhumane, but it comes down to having to pay for a service. Where is the cutoff? How many thousands of dollars credit are you going to give people because they are poor, or because its winter or summer. Summertime heat kills older folks too without AC. So, basically the argument that I think you're trying to make here is that we should, as a society, be willing to accept "Poverty" as a cause of death. And it doesn't have to be living-on-the-streets poverty, just poverty in whatever circumstance one finds oneself. I'm not sure that's a case I agree with. On the other hand, simply having people refuse to pay their bills is an untenable circumstance. Which is why, in particular with seniors, there needs to be some other alternative. Which is I think what I was getting at before...I just don't know why there was no one to step in to keep an eye on a person like this, especially at his age.
  17. QUOTE (Steve9347 @ Jan 28, 2009 -> 01:01 PM) Why is that? Is anyone else surprised by the fact that the Knicks haven't yet asked Jerome James to change his # to 23? They'd suddenly have the best selling jersey in the NBA.

  19. QUOTE (kyyle23 @ Jan 28, 2009 -> 12:52 PM) http://www.fannation.com/si_blogs/hot_stove/posts/45182 Heyman thinks the DBacks are a heavy favorite to sign Randy Wolf now as well. If so, their rotation would be pretty damn good ? The article you posted says the Dodgers are now the heavy favorites to sign Wolf. With Davis and Garland in their rotation, signing another Vet would probably send Sherzer to the pen or to the minors. Can't imagine the D-Backs wanting to do that.
  20. QUOTE (DBAHO @ Jan 28, 2009 -> 12:32 PM) To be fair, David Lee could probably play as a C, even though he's not all that great defensively. I think he's a keeper for the Knicks though. I feel like his name has come up in trade rumors quite a few times but the Knicks are hesitant to do anything that would involve them taking on any dollars past the end of 2010.
  21. QUOTE (Steve9347 @ Jan 28, 2009 -> 12:21 PM) None of them have still yet to be traded. Isn't that unbelievable? After a year and a half of this collapse...yes.
  22. QUOTE (juddling @ Jan 28, 2009 -> 12:13 PM) Here is your chance to become Jim Davis and create your own Garfield cartoon (with or without Garfield) Garfield cartoon creator I'd just like to note...that website is hosted by the NIH.
