  1. QUOTE (Rex Kicka** @ Sep 25, 2008 -> 10:02 AM) Bush kind of took the wind out of his sails on that possibility last night. If he's stopping his campaign, going to meet with everyone, issue a joint statement with Obama, and actually negotiate - and then not support the bill he stopped everything for? Would kind of prove Obama's point that stopping a campaign isn't the right tact wouldn't it? He could come out and blame it on those dastardly democrats and their additions to the bills.
  2. QUOTE (Reddy @ Sep 25, 2008 -> 09:55 AM) that would ruin his whole story of "need to get something done fast", hence the reason for him missing the debates etc. that'd be perfectly fine if he did that in my book. On that part I'd agree...not because I think it would hurt him, but because it would derail the wall street free money train.
  3. Because he has one more ring in the last 15 years than they do.
  4. A couple of those media insider places this morning are running with thoughts of this scenario:
  5. QUOTE (Athomeboy_2000 @ Sep 25, 2008 -> 07:33 AM) Welcome Back MoveOn!! They left?
  6. QUOTE (lostfan @ Sep 25, 2008 -> 06:53 AM) Haha. I'm going to quit making payments on my car and see if my bank will just pay my house off instead so I can get a break and make my payments easier. Steven came up with the solution months ago in a "Bears & Balls" segment. You just have to borrow enough money to buy roughly a $200 billion house. That way, if your mortgage goes under, it will dramatically affect the GDP and the Government will be forced to bail you out.
  7. QUOTE (mr_genius @ Sep 24, 2008 -> 07:59 PM) meh the "i vote for who celebrities say too!" group is already totally voting Obama Is it at least worth noting that the campaign suspension crisis was such a big deal that McCain ran straight to Katie Couric? I think that's what legitimately pissed Dave off.
  8. QUOTE (Brian @ Sep 24, 2008 -> 08:00 PM) Nick seems pissed. He just walked to the clubhouse after he was PR'd for If I was in that locker room, I'd punch the first person who made a sound.
  9. Gavin...you've been waiting the last 10 years of your life for tomorrow's game. Pitch like it.
  10. QUOTE (G&T @ Sep 24, 2008 -> 07:41 PM) o/u on Owens getting caught stealing? If he runs, high. Mauer throws people out at well over 30% clips.
  11. QUOTE (TheBigHurt @ Sep 24, 2008 -> 07:30 PM) Yeah, I just love the talks about Kenny getting "mad" and speculating of what he'll do in the offseason. He'll probably do what he always does: make some terrible trades and ignore all of our needs at the deadline. Is it even worth pointing out how he traded for guys like Jim Thome, God, and a combination of Podsednik and a ton of salary flexibility that won us a title in various offseasons? Or Danks? Or Floyd?
  12. QUOTE (Soxbadger @ Sep 24, 2008 -> 07:30 PM) Regardless of what happens tonight, the Twins are not going to win the rest of their games. Basically it seems we need Gavin to be ready to pitch the game of his life tomorrow.
  13. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Sep 24, 2008 -> 04:00 PM) Of course its fuzzy. If they gave us the real total, people would freak out. I will say it today, before this is all said and done, it costs us over 2 trillion dollars. I said a trillion a couple of months ago, and looking at it, it is way worse. I'm willing to believe you're right on that, and still say that the bailout as currently proposed is a horrid idea. First of all, doing it in one gigantic sum is a terrible idea. Secondly, structuring it in ways that we're bailing out foreign banks, we're bailing out banks that aren't in trouble, we're not getting anything in terms of quality assets for it is a terrible idea. Everything about this just stinks to me. I get this feeling from this whole proposal that it's like we've got a couple of bank robbers tearing apart a bank, and suddenly they hear police sirens in the distance so they decide to try to grab everything they can and get out as fast as they can before the cops get there. Congressman "Baghdad is like a Market in Indiana" Pence had another good one.
  14. Letterman tears in to McCain on air.
  15. Mark gets through Morneau unless the first 2 get on or Mark says he's done.
  16. QUOTE (kjshoe04 @ Sep 24, 2008 -> 06:02 PM) sadly i wish swisher was in there tonight for dye or wise. Wise has been hot enough lately that it at least makes sense for him to play against a RH.
  17. QUOTE (mr_genius @ Sep 24, 2008 -> 06:39 PM) Yea there is no way that we should just hand over 700 billion to wall street. This is now a taxpayer investment and decisions need to be made by representatives of the people. As far as I'm concerned AIG and such are gone. No bailout. However the government should step in to stabilize the financial situation. Is this going to grow government? yes, but it obviously needs to be done. The good news with AIG was as a nation we still got that 80% stake in the company. Which means we can hold it, take some losses now, but once things settle, sell off the assets and make a profit on it. The real problem here is that the stuff we'd be buying with that $700 billion right now is basically worthless. We'd be trying to say that the government can better judge the value of that stuff to be high than the market can right now. We're not getting anything that has tangible value for it if we buy it at the inflated prices that are necessary to shut down the mess.
  18. QUOTE (Sox It To Em @ Sep 24, 2008 -> 06:56 PM) QS for Mark. Screw the 101 pitch count. He's in until we get past Morneau or we get 2 people on base.
  19. QUOTE (caulfield12 @ Sep 24, 2008 -> 06:38 PM) Swisher and Anderson tomorrow? Wise and Dye are really not distinguishing themselves tonight, to put it mildly. Brian Anderson will start once the others are dead. And I mean literally dead, not Jermaine Dead.
  20. QUOTE (Sox It To Em @ Sep 24, 2008 -> 06:37 PM) What's Blackburn's pitch count? 82
  21. QUOTE (fathom @ Sep 24, 2008 -> 06:29 PM) How about the Rally Dye, and try to spark someone? I command you to rise from your grave!
  22. QUOTE (Dick Allen @ Sep 24, 2008 -> 06:27 PM) Buerhle is settling down. Too bad his pitch count will get to him later and get us a view of the bullpen. No one cares about pitch counts in a game like this.
