QUOTE (Sox It To Em @ Sep 25, 2008 -> 05:08 PM) 3-1! Error! Currently scored as an infield hit.

Gavin, that's all you get.

Come on PK, it's virtually impossible for you to hit in to the DP here...just don't K.

QUOTE (G&T @ Sep 25, 2008 -> 04:58 PM) Might want another one. I'm not trying to ask for the moon here.

There's your run Gavin. Now you have to figure out how to make it last.

QUOTE (winninguglyin83 @ Sep 25, 2008 -> 04:56 PM) never mind a hit. how about a baserunner. walk. hit batsman. error. Slowey is averaging 3.3 pitches per batter. At this point, I'd settle for a full count.

49 pitches through 3 for G.

CO2 emissions last year jumped by an amount that was so high it was outside of the upper bound predicted by the IPCC in their worst case scenario a year ago.

QUOTE (Athomeboy_2000 @ Sep 25, 2008 -> 03:54 PM) He went there to save his butt. Knowing how the game is played, I reply to this: I don't care if he went there to save his butt as long as saving his butt winds up delaying the thing.

QUOTE (Athomeboy_2000 @ Sep 25, 2008 -> 03:44 PM) ahhh but he said he was going to Washington to work on a Bipartisan deal. When he got to Washington and there WAS a bi-partisan deal... instead of working to get the deal passed.... he came in with the intended goal to destroy the deal. Not really bi-partisan. If it stops or at least delays this bailout mess for a couple weeks, or better yet until after the election...I'll call that a positive and applaud him for it.

2008 General Election Discussion Thread
Balta1701 replied to HuskyCaucasian's topic in The Filibuster
QUOTE (Athomeboy_2000 @ Sep 25, 2008 -> 03:02 PM) Exactly. i think many of the polls are in the 2000-3000 range? 3000 people to represent 100+ million who could vote? Not good. Compare that to some polls that do 1000-1500 for a single state. Statistically speaking...if you have an unbiased sample set...a poll of 1000 or so adults will vary by no more than 3% to either side by random chance. Adding an extra 1000 respondents only tends to cut that by a point. The real issues wind up being getting a representative sample set and having the poll done right. An unbiased sample can be extremely hard to come by, given that simply using the phone introduces a bias (I, for example, can't be polled, because I'm never home until 9:30 at night). The other fun thing with these tracking polls is that if you smooth them out over more than 3 days, say 5-10, then these ups and down, aside from the convention bumps, disappear. We go from talking about how the tracking poll went from showing a 4 point lead to saying it was tied 2 days later to back to saying it's a 4 point lead 3 days later because of wandering within the margin of error by random chance. -
So, aside from heading back to washington, choosing Couric over Letterman, and trying to get the VP debate canceled, what has Senator McCain done to actually suspend his campaign? His ads are still running. None of his campaign offices have different instructions from what they had yesterday. The Senator still made his Clinton Global Initiative speech this morning. The Senator will still (Along with Senator Obama) appear on all 3 national newscasts tonight. What exactly does "Suspending one's campaign" entail?

QUOTE (CanOfCorn @ Sep 25, 2008 -> 01:04 PM) Way to take it back to serious, Balta. It's what I do. That and killing polar bears with my bare hands.

QUOTE (lostfan @ Sep 25, 2008 -> 01:57 PM) Yes it does. The interesting thing is...it's actually entirely possible that sentiment could be right, no matter how funny it sounds. If you were governor of one of those states and actually had to deal with major issues involving the other nation...immigration, trade, border disputes, resource disputes, whatever, then you at least have a little. Mexico was cited as foreign Policy experience for 43 back in 2000. Perhaps interestingly also...Governor Palin didn't seem to have much interest in Russian diplomacy until, you know, late August of this year.

QUOTE (knightni @ Sep 25, 2008 -> 12:50 PM) Of course they are. Slowey hasn't been in the majors that long. After tonight...all of our guys will be hitting over .600 against him.

QUOTE (knightni @ Sep 25, 2008 -> 01:42 PM) Looks like Cabrera, Dye, AJ, Alexei, Uribe do well. Thome, Konerko, Wise, Swish do not. Griffey's never faced him. Sorry, but those numbers are in like 2, 3, or sometimes maybe 7 at bats. It's really hard for me to draw any conclusions from those, especially given that some of them (i.e. Konerko, Swisher) might well have faced him during their big slumps. One hit is the difference between doing well and not doing well.

QUOTE (lostfan @ Sep 25, 2008 -> 12:38 PM) Here I could see her giving this as an actual answer to a hypothetical question: Q: Governor Palin, what would you do to counter the emergence of China as a major world power? A: America will remain the most powerful nation on earth, but everything starts with the American economy. In order to ensure that it remains strong and competitive, we must make sure to give hard-working Americans tax breaks, and open drilling in ANWR. Those are complete sentences. That'd be a start.

QUOTE (Texsox @ Sep 25, 2008 -> 12:31 PM) Cut taxes when there is a surplus. So what do you think about 2001, where there was quite a budget surplus in the yearly budget, but where the nation was also sitting looking at a $5 trillion or so pile of accumulated debt at the time?
