Well, so far This year the White Sox have spent more than 600 plate appearances on Jake Lamb, Yermin Mercedes, Nick William, and Brian Goodwin. If there’s a moral to that story, if a guy can hit, even put up a .900 OPS against one side of a platoon, there will be plate appearances for them and chances to Win key games. And Sheets may not be a good RF, but I’d rather have him in RF than have Goodwin in CF.

The Mariners traded away their closer so not exactly the same team any more. In fact, that closer, Graveman, is 1-0 with a 1.64 ERA since taking over the 8th inning for our prospective playoff opponents in Houston.

With Hendriks seemingly out today and tomorrow, no I'm pretty sure I wouldn't use Kimbrel to keep it a 1 run game. It's just not a high leverage spot any more.

After burning Hendriks last night, I can't complain about this bullpen usage tonight. I didn't like how they burned Kopech last night, but this one even I can't hang on LaRussa. Kimbrel shouldn't pitch 2 innings every time out.

Preferring Leury as a permanent starter to anyone seems like some serious backup QB syndrome.

I will confess as to having no clue whatsoever what Rodons deal will look like, and any guess I would make depends on 4 or 5 really important unknowns. But if I were Carlos Rodon, I wouldn’t sign anything close to that.

Fwiw, the Yankees have gained 9.5 games on the White Sox in the last month. So, if the Sox finish the season playing this level of .500ish ball, that’s the type of run it would take.
