  1. QUOTE (BigSqwert @ Apr 24, 2008 -> 12:06 PM) Economic stimulus payment schedule Darn you Roosevelt...I just can't get past you in anything...
  2. Why did this get unpinned? Is it November already? But I thought Hillary was still in the race? Oh, wait...
  3. QUOTE (AddisonStSox @ Apr 24, 2008 -> 10:58 AM) Hampton: eight-year, $121 million Zito: seven-year, $126 million Not only is Zito getting roughly $3M more per season, he is harpooning his team's chances each and every time he takes the mound. Not only is he getting absolutely torched, he has taxed the bullpen tremendously and completely hamstrung his team's chances of signing any other premier free agents. Advantage: Zito He's getting $3 million less per season, but he signed his contract 10 years later. Assume a couple percent inflation of the currency per year, and Hampton's deal rapidly becomes worth more in "Real money" per season. And that says nothing about the fact that the average baseball salary has been moving up faster than the inflation rate.
  4. QUOTE (StrangeSox @ Apr 24, 2008 -> 09:38 AM) Right, that was their point. You can't just let them go on and on right up until the point of execution, because you can never be 100% sure when that is and if you miss it, you're going to be in for a lot of pain. But the problem with that is...is it against the law to talk about these things? How far do things get before they get against the law? If I posted something here about how a group of people were planning a terror attack (note, to the NSA Guys reading this, this is a political discussion and not a planned terror attack), is that sufficient? If we start naming targets, is that enough? If we name targets and suggest a date and how we'll pull it off, is that enough? How do you tell a real plot from one that is made up by a bunch of crazy people. We all know this nation has more than enough crazy people who go around talking about stuff that they'd never actually do, hell even put plans to paper about how they'd actually do it, but can you arrest them for that? Edit....and of course, then what happens if their entire confession and case is built on info obtained under torture?
  5. QUOTE (AddisonStSox @ Apr 24, 2008 -> 10:51 AM) I don't know why Barry Zito is now amongst the league's worst pitchers. And, frankly, I don't care. But, I do know that when all is said and done, his contract may go down as the worst in Major League Baseball history--perhaps even all of professional sport seeing as it is all guaranteed money. He's going to have a lot of work to do to beat out Mike Hampton. He's losing games but at least he's taking the ball.
  6. At least we've already gotten a few games with them out of the way.
  7. Thing to watch for the next 6 months:
  8. QUOTE (Steve9347 @ Apr 24, 2008 -> 06:05 AM) I didn't say they were better. But when your team's not playing very well, skipping a game would be a good thing. If the Sox were hot I'd say it couldn't come at a worse time. On the other hand, if the game gets in, wouldn't we get a chance to see Gavin take on the Yankees? The way he's been pitching, I'd think we'd want to keep giving him challenges to work on the whole confidence thing.
  9. Great, now once again I have to think about where to put things before posting them. Is it kind of anti-Hillary or just a reasonable commentary? Argh.
  10. QUOTE (fathom @ Apr 23, 2008 -> 07:15 PM) That wasn't a winnable game. The score doesn't reflect how one-sided it seemed. You know, I think that any game where you get the tying runs to the plate in the 8th inning in the form of your 4-5 hitters should be thought of as a winnable game, in theory.
  11. QUOTE (Princess Dye @ Apr 23, 2008 -> 07:54 PM) isnt it pretty much one big injury in his past and now he's over it? You're never really over a back injury.
  12. Well, tying run to the plate in the form of our cleanup hitter. Hypothetically speaking this is what we should want.
  13. QUOTE (daa84 @ Apr 23, 2008 -> 07:19 PM) let me preface this by saying that i dont really think masset deserves to be on this team, and to say that his stuff is a "tick below jenks" is rather laughable, but i will say this....he has the stuff to be a starter In which league?
  14. QUOTE (fathom @ Apr 23, 2008 -> 07:08 PM) Just be thankful we didn't give him a 4 yr, 48 mil extension. OC or Garland?
  15. QUOTE (frankie5angels @ Apr 23, 2008 -> 07:07 PM) I'm not sure he was worth a Starting Pitcher though. When you throw in the likely extra draft pick, the fact that it saved about $4 million off the bat, and the fact that it opened up a rotation slot for Danks, then I still say it looks better.
  16. QUOTE (fathom @ Apr 23, 2008 -> 06:00 PM) Doubtful....Ozzie has kept Javy in for worse situations in the past. I have no issue with Javy being in there. The only reason I asked was that his pitch count was already through the roof at the start of the inning, and the damage was done when he was at about 110.
  17. I wonder if the bullpen had been pitching better lately if we'd have gone to it at the start of this inning or had a quicker jook with javy when someone got on base.
  18. QUOTE (Tony82087 @ Apr 23, 2008 -> 06:15 PM) I was having that discussion yesterday, which I do understand. I think while most would still watch, the NFL draft has become a huge event for marketing the league. It's a lot less appealing when the 1st 6-7 picks are signed with teams ahead of time. The other issue though is whether or not the league is helped or hurt by the constant holdouts year after year in training camp. And of course, the lack of a rookie salary structure plays in to that also.
  19. QUOTE (Kalapse @ Apr 23, 2008 -> 06:12 PM) When isn't comcast having technical difficulties? When Gameday is.
  20. For some additional fun, there's a potential strike looming in the United Kingdom that has the potential to knock 700,000 barrels of oil a day in production offline. If a 1 day strike happens, it'll probably take a week to restart the facility in question.
  21. QUOTE (lostfan @ Apr 23, 2008 -> 05:42 PM) Ron Paul supporters are hardcore. Huckabee pulled in 10% as well.
  22. QUOTE (southsidehawkeye @ Apr 23, 2008 -> 04:38 PM) yeah, that sucks. Hopefully next inning we can get a couple quick outs to make up for it. There are a few teams in the major leagues its very hard to get quick outs against. The Yankees are one of them. The White Sox are a lot closer to being one of those teams than they were last year.
  23. Wow. Was just checking to see where Cabrera is in defensive stats. Julio Lugo has made 6 errors already this year.
