  1. Our SS for next year is batting 9th behind Joel Pinero.
  2. Josh Fields' numbers by month: June (78 AB's): .218 .274 .333 .607 July (98 AB's): .265 .333 .490 .823 August (64 AB's) .234 .265 .516 .781
  3. So then you're counting him as a $12.56 million player next year?
  4. QUOTE(knightni @ Aug 20, 2007 -> 10:39 AM) 5.56 mil a year for those stats isn't bad. What contract are you reading?
  5. QUOTE(Kid Gleason @ Aug 20, 2007 -> 09:07 AM) But they really need Jason Voorhees for the perfect double plays. Gives a whole new meaning to the phrase "Sacrifice bunt"
  6. QUOTE(Kid Gleason @ Aug 20, 2007 -> 07:06 AM) You would WANT to be buried in a mine? I understand the families grief and all, but do they really think that after 2 weeks there is any chance that these men are alive? 2 weeks with no food and water is tough to begin with, but in those conditions would be near impossible. There is usually enough water simply hanging out in most mines, depending on the exact geology, to at least have given them a shot if there was oxygen. Food however...it would come down to what they had on them or in whatever area they were trapped in, and how well they rationed their energy use. They'd be right @ the end of the line now though...and that's all assuming that there was some amount of oxygen.
  7. QUOTE(kyyle23 @ Aug 20, 2007 -> 07:04 AM) Shouldnt something be announced today about Vicks intentions? I swear I read somewhere that today was the day The grand jury is reconvening today to consider additional charges, i.e. RICO violations, against Mr. Vick. He absolutely needs to take a plea deal before the Grand Jury returns additional indictments against him, otherwise he'll spend the next 20 years of his life in jail.
  8. The Rangers clearly need a better approach against Santana. I blame Greg Walker.
  9. QUOTE(RME JICO @ Aug 19, 2007 -> 07:57 PM) I don't think Dye's dropoff will be that bad. It will be somewhere in between - 30HR/85RBI with a .825 OPS. The question is...for this team...is that kind of production worth $11 mil for this team from the DH spot?
  10. QUOTE(beautox @ Aug 19, 2007 -> 02:47 PM) maybe even package Crede with Broadway to one of the following giants/padres/phillies for a decent return. Whether we like it or not, here is the simple fact right now. The value of Crede + Broadway Joe Crede has negative value because he will cost you $4+ million next year with no real knowledge that he is healthy. Trading Crede + Broadway will NOT bring a "Decent return".
  11. QUOTE(santo=dorf @ Aug 19, 2007 -> 02:19 PM) How will throwing Josh in LF for one season and then shifting him back to third for Crede's eventual departure (if it doesn't happen after this season) help Fields' development? It will keep his bat facing major league pitching. He's not going to learn to cut down on the K's against AAA pitching.
  12. QUOTE(SoxFan1 @ Aug 19, 2007 -> 11:20 AM) I haven't been around much the last few days. Is he still at 41? Has he not pitched since the Seattle series at home? This is what happens when you go a week without winning a game.
  13. QUOTE(CWSGuy406 @ Aug 18, 2007 -> 03:26 PM) Who is going to play CF next year for the Twins? Am I missing an up-and-coming prospect in their system? They're going to have a helluva time replacing the 120 OPS+ that Hunter has given them the past two seasons... Aaron Rowand
  14. The thing I hate most about this free agent market is that it is totally impossible to construct a team on the FA market unless you're the Yankees. There are so many teams out there looking for that one last, single piece, or so they think, that the price of everyone gets pushed upwards. It makes no sense to try to build a team through the FA market these days. It only makes sense to build a team through trades and the draft. If you are actually one piece away, then you can go to the FA market, maybe find that piece, and wind up with a title. But it just seems so impossible to find an acutal bargain these days on the FA market that if you try to plug every little hole that appears via that route, you'll wind up paying $100 million to 6 guys and having the rest of your team be AA players.
  15. QUOTE(southsideirish71 @ Aug 17, 2007 -> 08:42 PM) Does anyone know if its unseasonably cold on the West Coast. Our hitting has dropped off quite a bit and I want to make sure that we dont hear about how cold it is and how they cant hit in the cold. 65 degrees right now according to the Weather Channel.
  16. QUOTE(Gregory Pratt @ Aug 17, 2007 -> 06:29 PM) Hate only counts when it's genuine. I'm pretty d*mn pissed at that team personally...
  17. QUOTE(elrockinMT @ Aug 17, 2007 -> 06:22 PM) Here we get TV Fox Sports NW and I can watch the Sox play the Mariners tonight and Sunday. Saturday they are on WGN so 3 nights of Chisox baseball. Sorry to hear it.
  18. QUOTE(fathom @ Aug 17, 2007 -> 05:48 PM) Grinder city tonight with Konerko out of the lineup. It's sickening how Ozzie seems to create opportunities so he can play those two guys. And FWIW, a friend of mine saw Sweeney play this week, and couldn't believe how bad he looks right now. Well, at least Konerko and Thome are getting some time off...
  19. QUOTE(mr_genius @ Aug 17, 2007 -> 01:13 PM) I do think that there needs to be changes in the health care system. Currently, it seems fairly inhumane, especially for a country with the resources of the United States. And I agree with Balta that prevention would help save a lot of money. But the solution needs to be reasonable, and we need to make sure we keep the best doctors in the world here. As long as we keep the educational and public research system we've developed here, I think we will almost no matter what we do. No matter how much other countries pay, if we're offering the best education in the world for that discipline here, we're going to keep a lot of them here.
  20. QUOTE(NorthSideSox72 @ Aug 17, 2007 -> 12:34 PM) Means almost nothing. We drafted late in any case, so I'm not surprised - that's what one should expect. Notice that most teams near the top had lousy records last year, and drafted early. Posted in FutureSox too. Still fairly disappointing that we came in that low but couldn't sign everyone. Anywho...That's $5 million more that we have available to spend on a replacement SS.
  21. QUOTE(elrockinMT @ Aug 17, 2007 -> 11:59 AM) Why all the discussion over trading our starting pitching which is our strength? I think the adage used by the old time baseball execs still rings true: You don't trade pitching for hitting. You need the good pitching to win as 2005 showed us. Because we can trade starting pitching and still wind up having starting pitching be a strength. It's also entirely possible we could trade starting pitching and have our starting pitching get even better.
