  1. QUOTE(Balance @ Jul 27, 2007 -> 02:01 PM) The Score just confirmed it's Michael Dubee, RP. 18th round draft pick in 2006. Blurb from BA @ Draft time:
  2. QUOTE(Flash Tizzle @ Jul 27, 2007 -> 01:59 PM) Carlos Carrasco wouldn't be bad, either. He's @ AA from what I'm reading on the Phils system.
  3. Perhaps Josh Outman? LHP for their A ball team in Clearwater?
  4. And thanks again for 05 Tad! You and Pods seriously carried the offense the first 2 months when the bigger bats were slumping.
  5. QUOTE(briguy27 @ Jul 27, 2007 -> 01:56 PM) Richar? Presumably he's getting the call as I write this, or got the call within an hour or so ago, and will probably be starting for us tomorrow.
  6. QUOTE(watchtower41 @ Jul 27, 2007 -> 01:28 PM) Or who we could get more for... him or Javy I'd say Garland, without a doubt.
  7. QUOTE(Gregory Pratt @ Jul 27, 2007 -> 01:08 PM) Besides the fact that Schaffer believes he was used as a scapegoat, there's the truth that as long as Kenny and Reinsdorf are still here, we're still going to avoid expensive first round picks and will be going after big former football players with a bunch of powah. So considering that Jerry Reinsdorf and the current ownership group is simply not going anywhere, what would you suggest is the next best option?
  8. QUOTE(Dick Allen @ Jul 27, 2007 -> 12:36 PM) How do you know if they still had MacDougal they still wouldn't have signed Dotel? He may be ungodly cheap, but he is the most expensive piece of KW's bullpen. I bet you KW would rather have TL right now. I'm not saying they wouldn't have signed Dotel, I'm saying that trading away guys who are signed for $2 million a year is barely saving money.
  9. QUOTE(Dick Allen @ Jul 27, 2007 -> 12:30 PM) They have saved some cash. Kind of like how the Sox won the trade with Philly even if Floyd is garbage and Gio never sees Chicago. With MacDougal? The Sox signed him to a 3 year, $6.45 million deal. Octavio Dotel's contract with the Royals is worth $5 mil for this season. They did not save money by trading MMac: MMac is still in the "ungodly cheap" phase of his career.
  10. QUOTE(daa84 @ Jul 27, 2007 -> 12:10 PM) that list is horrid....penn state the #3 university ?????? The Washington Monthly does their rankings strictly in terms of the activism on the campus, through things like political involvement, recycling, support for charitable causes, etc.
  11. QUOTE(hitlesswonder @ Jul 27, 2007 -> 10:25 AM) I think Moore is better GM than Williams. He's won both trades he's made with the Sox. And KC has a brighter future than the Sox. Look at the young talent base the two clubs have. The Sox have Josh Fields and ...that's it. KC has 3 young 3B better than Fields plus a bunch of other decent prospects. Tyler Lumsden has put up a 6.25 ERA in 19 starts for the Omaha Royals (AAA). Batters are hitting .302 against him. It's really hard for me to find a logical reason why one could say that the Royals have won that trade.
  12. One other note...Resigning Dye would make a hell of a lot more sense if we didn't already have a pretty good DH. JD's biggest issue right now is playing the field and the wear and tear that puts on his legs. He's certainly proven this month that he can still hit if he's healthy, but his legs have a lot of miles/injuries on them, and that's only going to get worse if he's put in the field every day. You want to resign Dye? You probably ought to try to move Thome first.

QUOTE(Brian @ Jul 27, 2007 -> 09:40 AM) Simpsons getting 88% at rottentomatoes. I'll be seeing it @ 3:10 PST tomorrow. I'll let y'all know what I think if you want. Even if it sucks, I sort of felt like I had an obligation to see it, considering I haven't missed a minute of that show in 18 years or so even with the decline in quality.
  14. QUOTE(29andPoplar @ Jul 27, 2007 -> 09:39 AM) It didn't work, in fact it failed miserably. Sometimes you get lucky with these guys who have had injuries, sometimes you don't. Arguably, they got lucky with Jermaine Dye, many people said he was injury prone. He contributed. It was a mistake to rely on Podsednik and it was a mistake to rely on Erstad for a starting CF role. They may bring Erstad back for a backup role but they are done with Podsednik. Guillen wants power and a better hitter in LF and wants his speed up the middle (2B SS CF). In fact I would not be surprised if Pods is gone by Tuesday afternoon. If they try to bring Erstad back as a backup role...I think we can all almost give a guarantee that somehow, he'll be the starting CF on day 1.
  15. I have good news for the pro-war folks. You'll never have to hear anyone complain again that Baghdad has dropped form 16 hours of electricity per day before the invasion to the 2 or 3 that it gets now. Why? The government won't be publishing that data any more. One step closer to victory!
  16. For those who missed it, prosecutors in this case said yesterday they would file a superceding indictment by the end of August. Basically that means they're planning to update/replace some of the charges against Vick. It could mean they're dropping some charges, but it's a lot more likely that they're going to be adding charges, possibly based on new witness testimony against him.
  17. QUOTE(witesoxfan @ Jul 27, 2007 -> 02:30 AM) He also doesn't seem to be considering the flip side in the whole debate; sure we can take away Canseco's MVP, but then Caminiti's would have to be taken away, perhaps IRod, Juan Gone, Giambi, and so on and so forth. I would be more than happy to take away that 2000 MVP from Giambi and give it to the 2nd place finisher, thus giving that man a 3rd MVP.
  18. QUOTE(DBAH0 @ Jul 26, 2007 -> 10:30 PM) However, if we were to trade Javier Vazquez or Jon Garland, we should still make every attempt to deal away Jose Contreras's contract. Imagine freeing up $30M in payroll this off-season when the contracts of Garland, Contreras, Dye and Iguchi are no longer with us, that would make us a mjor player in free agency, and the oppurtunity to rebound next season. And I know a SS who might be interested in that $30 mil!
  19. QUOTE(Colorado Sox Fan @ Jul 27, 2007 -> 08:30 AM) Please give Frank a big congratulatory ovation in his first ab for reaching the 500 homer mark. In fact, the Sox should do something special and stop the game for a minute to honor him since hit hit most of them while wearing the pale hose. The crowd will probably make that happen on their own, just like last year. I would if I were there. Have a day, Jon. And feel free to stand up and clap a lot, guys in the crowd.
  20. QUOTE(ChiSox_Sonix @ Jul 27, 2007 -> 07:44 AM) I too have noticed when Pods plays, this team is better. I just cant convince myself of that. And his BA is one of the higher ones on the team, but ya i know, small sample size Outfield on days Podsednik is not in the lineup: Dye Owens Mack/Terrero With the fact that it took Owens until July to even figure out how to hit singles at the MLB level, the fact that Terrero is an excellent 4th or 5th OF as a defensive replacement, and the terrible season Mack was having, It's pretty darn easy to see why sticking a guy who can occasionally get singles and steal bases at a 50% clip might be useful. Esp. with Terrero now hurt.
  21. You have to at least offer JD Arbitration, and it's always possible that after a down season, he'll consider accepting it as a 1 year deal to try to get himself closer to the 06 form before hitting the market. Podsednik right now simply offers this team nothing. Even when he's able to play, he gets thrown out by Victor Martinez. I'm not yet sold on Owens as a long term solution, but right now he's a much better solution to the leadoff spot than Pods (and if he keeps hitting like he has been this month, then he could well be a long term solution).
  22. QUOTE(Gregory Pratt @ Jul 26, 2007 -> 08:38 PM) Garland was never anywhere near this bad. Nowhere near as bad as Floyd was in Philadelphia or here. Jon Garland, 2000: 15 games, 69.2 IP, 6.46 ERA, 4-8 record, 1.75 WHIP.
  23. QUOTE(Dick Allen @ Jul 26, 2007 -> 08:37 PM) The farm system was definitely overrated. The ironic thing was with Kenny's previous job, that false ranking probably helped him get his current position. He has such a reputation for being this maverick. It seems after the Thome trade, he's really gone conservative. I think one problem is he may be a little too attached to some of the guys that contributed to a WS. He did deal Rowand, but that was Jim Thome he was getting back. I dunno, I think the McCarthy, Cotts, and Garcia deals all argue against this statement.
