  1. At least with tetrahydrogestrinone, consider the possibility that he was juicing throughout his career and the explosion in his body type was not due to starting steroids but changing to the “hard stuff”. How would we know? If he had to do a cycle to recover from minor injuries, that would contribute to his ability to be a 40/40 guy as we know guys take a beating stealing lots of bases. Perhaps there’s a reason that didn’t happen before the steroid era too.
  2. Not only is it entirely possible that could be exactly what happens, but you won't know that needing pitching cost you the world series at the trade deadline any year! I don't want guys traded away either, but eventually - you want a title, you have to beat that Dodgers superteam.
  3. Turning it back to you, are you Ok with being the Tigers instead - good for 8-9 years, playoffs almost every year, a couple World Series appearances, and no titles?
  4. While there may be long term issues with the vaccine that could show up...we know there are potentially extreme long-term issues with getting the virus. Like 75% of cases that produced severe symptoms had at least 1 symptom lingering 3-4 months later in the last report I saw.
  5. That illustrates why it would be important to treat internet access like a utility, because when it isn't treated that way, people get left behind.
  6. The 2 companies that employ the most people on Medicaid and food stamps, with the US taxpayer footing the bill for their health care and meals, are McDonalds and Walmart. https://www.cnbc.com/2020/11/19/walmart-and-mcdonalds-among-top-employers-of-medicaid-and-food-stamp-beneficiaries.html
  7. Every time Sarah Palin tweeted something in 2009 and 2010 it was treated as big news.
  8. And then Mitch McConnell makes blocking employer liability his number 1 goal in any additional recovery acts. And then they write a bill where the employer could sue workers who complain. https://www.latimes.com/business/story/2020-07-29/covid-employer-liability
  9. I get where you’re coming from on the racial part and have wondered how that fit the description of this player as well, but the other part with Madrigal is that we are talking about the number 4 overall pick. He has an excellent hit tool but zero power, and that lack of power doesn’t justify being drafted that highly unless he also is strong in other aspects of the game. People have talked here about him stealing a lot of bases at a high clip and just taking over the gold glove awards at 2b. If he had a good chance of doing that, then the draft pick makes sense without the lack of power. If he can’t do things like that, then the draft selection made no sense. One would certainly hope that the organization could look past the “Grindy little white guy” stuff while evaluating a multi million dollar decision. But then, the White Sox really did lose all benefit of the doubt on this issue this offseason.
  10. This is that South Dakota Nurse describing the public reaction:
  11. I will not give up on any of the Bulls players as "injury prone" until we see them with a professional training staff.
  12. They've weakened draft pick compensation and control every CBA for the past 15 years, but it hasn't gone away despite the players want it gone - meaning the owners really, really want some version of compensation for losing FAs to stay.
  13. Last night, Senator Sherrod Brown insisted that the Republicans on the Senate Floor needed to wear masks, and they refused, at a time when Senators and other Capitol Hill employees were on the floor, required to be there. Grassley was on the floor at the time.
  14. There was a rain delay during extra innings where Jason Heyward gave a motivational speech. https://www.si.com/mlb/2017/03/14/jason-heyward-world-series-game-7-rain-delay-speech-cubs
  15. FWIW, that's not necessarily what that means. That is an identification of possible antibodies, but antibodies for different coronaviruses can look similar in those tests. 4 samples is probably not enough to verify this claim. There was a similar report like that earlier this year, same set of responses.
  16. You are only writing that because you're in California.
  17. I'd rather pay Bryant 1 year/$15 million and play for time than lock in 5/$125 for Springer, esp. if the White Sox have a payroll limit next year.
  18. Guys like Bryant being nontendered are exactly what I was expecting of this offseason - that's how you cut payroll rapidly, and in this league it's basically the only way to do so. I'd expect to see other names on the list as well when that comes. If the Cubs lost $50 million last year, they won't have a lot of cash just sitting around to cover those losses, too much of the value is tied up in the team and owed as debt, and they can't rapidly bring on new shareholders to gain access to cash.
  19. Both the Chargers and the Dolphins seemingly got franchise level QBs while going 5-11 last year, although we'll see how they develop. In 2019, the only good QB seemingly went #1, while in 2018 the best QB may have gone #7 to Buffalo after trading a first and 2 seconds. In 2017, the best 2 QBs were drafted 10th and 12th, with the #10 pick earning the highest contract in sports history, and the #2 pick will not be spoken about again. I get cashing out on some of these guys on the grounds that you should take what you can get given where the team currently is. I disagree with the notion that you only get a #1 QB if you are drafting in the top 3.
  20. If they were to non-tender Bryant, he will take the largest contract offer he gets this year (he struggled last year so if good contracts aren't forthcoming, he is a guy who will need to play to earn a bigger deal).
  21. The vaccine immunity and the response to the virus itself may actually work in different ways or have different lifetimes in the body. This is a matter that you may want to consult your own doctor about eventually, next year, particularly as more data becomes available. At the very least, if you know you have it, and are not in a group that is obviously at-risk, you should not race out for a dose in March or April. Eventually, the number of doses that will have to be manufactured will be in the billions - once that level has been accomplished, then perhaps there could be some reason to do so at that time.
  22. I wouldn't want the White Sox giving up anything of value to pay Bryant $22 million or so this year.
