QUOTE (Dam8610 @ Nov 20, 2017 -> 03:59 PM) For Stanton AND Gordon? That's not a bad price. But Stanton's contract is terrible for the White Sox timeline. Yeah, that deal makes us better next year, but I'm not sure it does long term. Given the choice I think we're more likely to have ballplayers on our next competitive team from those 3 players than from Stanton.

Sigh. Up next: how Hillary faked the Moon Landing...

QUOTE (Dam8610 @ Nov 20, 2017 -> 02:59 PM) Luis Robert projects to the CF spot, so I like the future there much better than at 3B with Burger. I see Leury as the stopgap to Robert. Ok, I wasn't thinking about him since I'm thinking he's a 2020 arrival or maybe later, hard to judge until we get some real game experience for him this year. Makes sense.

You could have added "White Sox not given any".

QUOTE (Dam8610 @ Nov 20, 2017 -> 01:17 PM) Stanton makes zero sense for the White Sox. Their OF of the future is pretty shored up. It's 3B that poses the biggest long term concern (enter Manny Machado next offseason). I dunno if it counts, but I feel like Sanchez has a better chance of filling the 3b spot until Berger is ready than Engel does of filling the CF spot. Maybe Leury takes over that spot out in CF, but that's my favorite weak spot right now.

QUOTE (OmarComing25 @ Nov 20, 2017 -> 01:30 PM) But you already have Eloy in LF, unfortunately we can't clone him. Oops, thanks. Meant to stick Cordell there. Fixed.

QUOTE (Dam8610 @ Nov 20, 2017 -> 02:24 PM) Da bessss, aka Eloy Jimenez. "Eloy fight big monster!"

QUOTE (Reddy @ Nov 20, 2017 -> 01:33 PM) I think everyone should read this prior to deciding whether or not he should retire. WaPo Op-Ed. We should listen to women, IMO. I'm a feminist, and I study rape culture, and I don't want Al Franken to resign. Before jumping to that point...I want to see what else comes out about him.

2017-2018 NHL discussion thread

QUOTE (LittleHurt05 @ Nov 20, 2017 -> 10:37 AM) It's the same teams every year. The Flyers aren't even good anymore. You just had Nashville in the Final, the buzz down there is huge, why don't you let them play in an outdoor game? Because there's a good chance it'll be 60 degrees and only about 15 days where the average nightly low drops below freezing? -
2B: Moncada 3B: Yolmer Sanchez DH: Delmonico LF: Cordell 1B: Gillaspie RF: Hulk C: Collins SS: Anderson CF: AJ Pollock Bench: L. Garcia Narvaez Peter Polo Rotation: Kopech Giolito Lopez Fulmer Rule 5 draft pick Hansen (midseason callup) Bullpen: Rodon Kimbrel Vieira Danish Minaya Miller I figured I left myself the money available once I moved Garcia and Abreu so I dumped it into the bullpen, where we will need people the most. Also probably missing someone from the bullpen - we might not even see Vieira or Danish there, we could totally find someone else in a trade or FA acquisition this year who occupies the role for a year, but that's beyond my ability to guess.

Well then. Twitter

QUOTE (GenericUserName @ Nov 17, 2017 -> 04:45 PM) And if the bullpen is good we'll probably trade most of it before the deadline. This isn't our year. This year is still for building for the future. Depends on how long the guys are under team control. Someone under control for 3 years like Kahnle would probably be held onto.

2017-2018 MLB player movement rumors and reports

QUOTE (bmags @ Nov 17, 2017 -> 03:43 PM) This was the expected behavior after new CBA right? There were some thoughts that a couple of them (Hosmer, maybe Davis) could consider 1 year, $18 million deals, but it's not surprising. The new CBA lowers the penalty for signing these guys, so that should make their markets stronger. -
If this guy makes the big leagues dibs on calling him the Thyagomizer.
-
We should go build a solar reflection furnace to see if that makes him show up in Bulls colors for the draft.

QUOTE (LittleHurt05 @ Nov 16, 2017 -> 08:39 PM) You have a point, I read it quickly and don't catch that. It just sounded like his usual beating around the bush, but that would make sense reading it again. Although he could be more straight forward. But why do the HIPPA laws only matter for illness but not injury? Every injury is reported in full depth, even when Miller almost died. The NFL requires certain amounts of information to be released during the week to satisfy the gamblers and to play in the league the players are waiving some of those rights under the CBA. Different teams push the CBA limits to different extents. The Patriots I believe have a history of being as opaque as they can be under those injury reports.

Unless i'm mistaken isn't he a hippy hollywood actor?

There has been a Senate tradition whereby when a judge is considered for nomination to serve in a particular state, his nomination would be approved by the senators of the state signing off on it through something nicknamed a "Blue Slip". The Democrats honored this tradition when they were in office. 18 of Barack Obama's nominees were not approved and had their nominations expire because one or more Republican senators from that state did not issue a Blue Slip - even when they would have been likely approved. The Republicans will no longer follow this tradition and will approve their judges regardless of the approval of senators from their home state. They will be able to fill these 18 open seats in part because of it.

QUOTE (JenksIsMyHero @ Nov 16, 2017 -> 05:38 PM) Take away these losses and you take away the deterrent. That's literally all we have to stop these people from doing corrupt things. If all they had to do is get out of politics and pay a fine, EVERYONE would do it and work really hard to put off getting caught until they're older. Frankly I'd increase the penalties for corruption. Make some examples of people. There should be more criminal charges and longer sentences. And if it's money involved, they should pay every dime back. We basically let an entire felonious industry walk away scot free from 2008-2012. The worst of it from a legal perspective was the mortgage fraud settlement - the banks literally stole millions of houses they could not prove they owned and signed a form with the government saying "Here's a small check please stop paying attention to this". They walked away with hundreds of billions. I'd do that fraud again right now if I could. One of the leaders in that sytematic fraud is our current treasury secretary.

Fortunately, we do see guys who start out their careers being put on the shelf for a number of small things who then build up into shape as they grow up. Weirdly, that winds up being an argument for not having these guys drafted when they're 19 years old.

QUOTE (chitownsportsfan @ Nov 16, 2017 -> 03:49 PM) Nice pic of Eloy in his last LIDOM game last night. He's a big man. Gigante even.
