  1. QUOTE (fathom @ Sep 8, 2015 -> 10:49 AM) Hahn should trade for him this offseason. Not because he'd be good for the Sox, but just so they won't have to face him anymore. That's got to be like a 2 win swing right there! Ryan Raburn automatically makes any team in the AL Central other than the White Sox 1-2 games better. It's worth the same amount to have him on their roster.
  2. QUOTE (SCCWS @ Sep 7, 2015 -> 05:30 PM) Danks has a pretty restricted contract for trading him. I doubt the Pirates would be a team on his short list. I don't think the fit works since the White Sox have 2 guys to play 2b, that's just an example of the kind of guy they'd look for.
  3. QUOTE (OmarComing25 @ Sep 7, 2015 -> 01:33 PM) When was the last time a pitcher who had success in the NL replicated that success in the AL? Cueto has sucked, and Hamels has just been OK for the Rangers (I'm aware of the small sample sizes). We all know what's happened with Samardzija. I can't think of one. I guess Volquez has been OK this year but he's not really a guy I would say has had a past history of success. I took a look at the top 10 Cy Young award winners over the past few seasons for guys who spent a lot of time in the NL and came up with Anibal Sanchez, Dan Haren, Bartolo Colon, Cliff Lee, Jose Valverde, and Josh Beckett. None of them were really close to the top, they just placed and performed well, had a closer thrown in, none of them were obviously 100% consistent either.
  4. QUOTE (fathom @ Sep 7, 2015 -> 04:47 PM) The bottom 6 teams in NL are far worse than anyone in AL The things I'm not certain about though are: where do the teams in the middle of the 2 leagues compare? The AL has more of them, but the Giants and Nationals might well be better than the similar ~70 win teams in the AL. And then, where do the teams at the top compare? I keep thinking the Cardinals, for example, can't keep up a .640 winning clip, but after 5 months maybe they're just this good.
  5. And that's it for that winning streak.
  6. QUOTE (oldsox @ Sep 7, 2015 -> 04:20 PM) That's because the Cleveland logo is not as offensive as the Washington team name. They actually adjusted it to make it less stereotypical in the 1990s and got rid of the dancing guy at their park, but really its days are probably numbered too.
  7. QUOTE (Knackattack @ Sep 7, 2015 -> 04:17 PM) To hit .230? He had a great July, hit .323, but pulled off a weak august and so far a terrible September. It'd be worrisome except we already know we can't complain about that pattern since our LF has done the same thing and people are somehow fine with him.
  8. Hey Robin, you may have noticed that 5 of the last 6 hitters have hit the ball very hard.
  9. QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Sep 7, 2015 -> 03:55 PM) I disagree. I think the season's blown so let's get him out there and try to get his arm built up for 200 innings. Don't push him past 100 or so pitches in those outings, not needed, but there's plenty of benefit in arm strengthening. Of course, since Robin won't be able to resist throwing Chris for 120 pitches if he's out there maybe resting him is the right move.
  10. QUOTE (Knackattack @ Sep 7, 2015 -> 03:54 PM) They should skip his next one and give Johnson/Montas the start but I'm sure we will see him out there I disagree. I think the season's blown so let's get him out there and try to get his arm built up for 200 innings. Don't push him past 100 or so pitches in those outings, not needed, but there's plenty of benefit in arm strengthening.
  11. Well that one stayed in here at least. Robin, bullpen up, get moving, get on the phone, come on, get moving now.
  12. QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Sep 7, 2015 -> 03:22 PM) Yeah well Raburn has to get a couple more PA so that's at least 1 more run... Hate world...
  13. QUOTE (Knackattack @ Sep 7, 2015 -> 03:26 PM) Seems like Adam is striking out way more this year. E: That was #116 holy s*** The extra power has offset the extra K's so that he's almost as good of an overall offensive contributor as last year, but yeah I like the guy with the higher average better too.
  14. QUOTE (SoxPride18 @ Sep 7, 2015 -> 03:20 PM) It's the 4th inning, if he goes 7 with giving up 2 runs, that's a good start. Relax. Yeah well Raburn has to get a couple more PA so that's at least 1 more run...
  15. Wait, that was Raburn? Dah, I guess we should have expected that.
  16. QUOTE (elrockinMT @ Sep 7, 2015 -> 11:39 AM) If I read things right Sale can set a new pitching record tonight with the number of starts in a season with at least 10K's breaking Randy Johnson's old mark Johnson got to 23 three different seasons. Chris can be the first to get to this number since Randy.
  17. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Sep 7, 2015 -> 11:26 AM) If it were 2002/3/4, the Cubs wouldn't be in the playoff hunt. 2.5 games out of the wild card = not in the playoff hunt?
  18. QUOTE (GreenSox @ Sep 6, 2015 -> 11:16 PM) That's because he's 35 and the Sox record with >30 is pretty bad. Neil Walker himself is 30; like to see someone younger. Has bad defensive metrics, FWIW. And he'd be a 1 year rent. Pass. Pirates would never get a mid-rotation starter for him anyway. Not the kind of players I'd trade young pitching for. Prefer to take a different approach than "proven veteran." Actually, if the White Sox had a weak 2b spot which they don't...you know the kind of guy who would make sense for the Pirates in exchange for Walker? John Danks. They're going to be looking for a 1 year rental because Glasnow and perhaps Taillon could be guys taking slots in their 2017 rotation and they've had a good record rehabilitating pitchers. Doesn't match up very well given the 2 rosters and the White Sox having 2 young 2b, but that's the kind of return they might see fit for Walker.
  19. QUOTE (CaliSoxFanViaSWside @ Sep 7, 2015 -> 02:55 AM) Post All Star break in 186 AB Eaton is batting .333 but leading the team in K's with 51. Strange what a sore shoulder can do but the end result isn't bad but he might need off season surgery. Eaton has said " it would be more fun hitting in the three or four or five hole" so if Micah Johnson pans out somewhere Eaton would love it. I still like the 2014 Eaton getting on base better than this version.
  20. QUOTE (GreenSox @ Sep 6, 2015 -> 07:49 PM) HOpefully he plays every day. Saladino to short. Alexei to DH Alexei Ramirez and Adam LaRoche have identical OPS in 2015.
  21. QUOTE (Vance Law @ Sep 6, 2015 -> 10:22 PM) Good point, I didn't realize they signed Harrison to that deal which they are probably regretting now. Worth 5 WAR last year and .6 WAR and doesn't have a starting job this year. A big part of that for Harrison is injury, he was just starting to turn it on in May and June then lost 6 weeks with a freak injury (broken bone IIRC). By the time he was back Kang was on such a tear that he just couldn't be replaced. It's not big money, it' slike $25 million over 5 years or something like that, so you're not 100% mad that "guy who is on fire has taken his spot because you're winning more games". Long term it could be an issue but he's still shown plenty of signs of being the player he was last year, just a rough year overall for him.
  22. QUOTE (Vance Law @ Sep 6, 2015 -> 10:09 PM) I like that this at least implies that they don't intend to start Saladino over there next year. I'd be fine with Saladino starting at short if they go that route. But at least they intend to have someone who can hit better than a middle infielder. I'm pretty confident it won't be Olt. I think anyone clamoring for Davidson to be given a shot is legally insane. Davidson is a worse version of Olt, and Olt is a bad enough Olt. If they think Zobrist can handle 3rd (he's played there a bit this year, played a fair amount of SS last year) I hope they do what they can to get him. Other than him on the free agent market there's Daniel Murphy, Juan Uribe, and if you get down to David Freese you might as well just keep Saladino there. I can also imagine that Josh Harrison would be gettable in a trade as he's basically a utility guy in Pirates current setup. He was pretty great when given a full time job in 2014. If the Pirates move someone from their infield I'd say 80% the odds are it would be Neil Walker, their 2b. Aramis is retiring so he's out of the way, Kang can play an above average 2b, they've got Jordy Mercer who is a solid defensive SS but whose bat has been up and down, and Harrison. Harrison as a super sub is fine and he's great in that role, but Walker is a free agent after next season, which makes him the #1 guy they'd think about moving. Harrison just signed a new deal before this season, so if you want him instead of Walker you're going to have to pay through the teeth for it. Good chance that they'll be looking to see if they can swap Walker for a mid-rotation starter this offseason. Harrison, you're not going to want to hear the price because it won't be a fair one.
  23. QUOTE (Jose Abreu @ Sep 6, 2015 -> 10:08 PM) Jose Quintana: "I'm so excited. … It’s really fun when you get runs." That's sort of backhanded. Makes me think about whether Quintana will be traded in the offseason. Jose Quintana could absolutely say worse and he would be 100% justified in saying that and the rest of the roster would absolutely deserve it. He's had the patience of a saint.
  24. QUOTE (kitekrazy @ Sep 6, 2015 -> 05:14 PM) I think he is at the point where he needs to be rested maybe one a week. I don't recall him getting many breaks in his career. He might have played more innings than most of the team. Alexei plays every day and he'll play every day until he falls completely apart. Just face up to it. If you're not ready for him to start 155+ games then you don't want him back.
