The Royals beat the White Sox and become 81-50. Are they 15 1/2 games over .500? Such that if you replaced 15 1/2 of their wins with losses they'd be .500? So their record would be 65 1/2 and 65 1/2? Given that you can't actually have a record of 1/2 a win the phrasing does become at least extra awkward in that usage.
