QUOTE (Greg Hibbard @ Aug 6, 2010 -> 09:19 AM) And the people crying foul over Bobby hanging a curve were begging him to throw one the past two weeks. Well, he f***ing threw one.... Do you think people wanted him to throw a hanging curve?

QUOTE (Steve9347 @ Aug 6, 2010 -> 09:07 AM) Everything I hear is that "The Other Guys" is flat-out comedy gold. Seeing it tonight. That's a little exaggeration, but it was definitely worth seeing in the theaters.

QUOTE (IceCreamPants @ Aug 6, 2010 -> 07:37 AM) I am thinking seeing the previews I seen all the best jokes. I wish I didnt watch any previews at all ever, they ruin things for me. Ferrell is the best, he has a great delivery where he takes an ordinary line and makes it funny. Na, that's not the case with this one.

I just got back from The Other Guys. It was pretty damn funny, although not as good as I had hoped. QUOTE (SleepyWhiteSox @ Aug 5, 2010 -> 11:43 PM) I saw the last exorcist tonight. It was dumb, not scary, and the ending made no sense. That's already out?

QUOTE (Frankensteiner @ Aug 5, 2010 -> 08:01 PM) The thing with Jenks is, if he's not the closer, he's basically pretty much useless. If you don't have confidence in him to get 3 outs at the end of the game with the bases empty, you can't possibly bring him with guys on base in the 7th or 8th like we do with Putz or Thornton. So he's either the closer or another Linebrink. The Sox are a much better team if Jenks can handle closing duties so I can't blame Ozzie for sticking with him. I'm interested to see what Sale can provide us for the stretch run. OK, I keep seeing this. How many non-closing innings has Jenks pitched since he became the closer? I can't recall very many (unless it was just garbage time and he was given the ball to give him some use). I don't buy for a second that he's useless as anything but a closer, or that we should leave him as closer because of this logic.

QUOTE (Jordan4life @ Aug 5, 2010 -> 05:09 PM) Ozzie doesn't have anybody playing over their heads. Outstanding starting pitching, a 3-week tear by CQ and a favorable schedule is how we got back in this. No manager that consistently runs Mark Kotsay out there as his everyday DH deserves credit. Would I be sticking by Ozzie if somebody other than Jenks blew the save? You obviously didn't see the thread I created a couple weeks ago. I've long soured on Ozzie Guillen. 2005 was exactly that. 2005. He's just not that good of manager. 3 blown saves in like 3 weeks? Yes. Sabotaging the season. What more do you guys need? Another blown save tomorrow or next week? We've got a f***ing 1 game lead and we have a closer that can't be trusted with a 2-3 run lead, let along a 1 run lead. Those two points need emphasis. We are just barely winning this division, and that is due to a ridiculous stretch of great play. We can't afford to stick with a closer like Jenks. He can't even hold multiple-run leads.

QUOTE (Hawk09 @ Aug 5, 2010 -> 03:59 PM) Here is the deal.... Thornton sucked today....walked two to lead off the inning? JJ Putz sucked yesterday....did he even get an out? And today he gave up a rope that Alexei miraculously turned into a inning ending doubleplay. Sergio struggled as recently as last week. Hello, gang, Bobby was nasty today, cept for no command of his breaking stuff. If they stick to fastballs,he closes it out no problem. The Twins new closer blew a save this week. It happens. Bobbys stuff is still very good...97mph fastball. The breaking ball to Raeburn was a stupid pitch to call....that is all. Wow, Hawk Harrelson actually posts on this board. When are you going to retire, Ken?

QUOTE (Lemon_44 @ Aug 5, 2010 -> 04:03 PM) I have no problem with Jenks closing. He's throwing the ball real well right now. He's hitting the upper 90's and has 3 pitches for a closer. He hung a ball to Raburn. Today is the 1st time he's thrown a bad pitch in awhile. It's not like he's going out there and topping out at 90 with a rolling curve to go with it. He didn't have a good curve today, they should've just stuck with the heat and it likely would have been over. What will it take some of you people to admit this guy sucks?

QUOTE (Jenksy Cat @ Aug 5, 2010 -> 03:54 PM) How so? Bobby was better when he was fatter. So he becomes less dominant as he loses weight? He's the fattest he's ever been, and he's terrible. They keep saying he's losing weight each offseason, but he gets larger each year.

QUOTE (BigSqwert @ Aug 5, 2010 -> 03:46 PM) Cowley: I like that. It sounds like Ozzie is sick and tired of Jenks.
-
QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Aug 5, 2010 -> 03:46 PM) By the way folks, just anticipating how these nights usually go...we're all going to be angry at Jenks, but at least for tonight, let's try not to go after him with the personal/body type insults. I still disagree, as his "body type" is definitely a factor in his effectiveness.
-
QUOTE (caulfield12 @ Aug 5, 2010 -> 03:37 PM) Putz has to be the choice because of his experience and the fact he's only given up runs like twice in 3 months. You can use Thornton and Santos in high leverage situations...Santos becomes a little bit like our version of Joel Zumaya. I'm not sure what we do with Jenks in all honesty. Putting him behind Linebrink, I'd almost rather they DFA'ed him for the good of the team, because I really don't think he will be good for the Sox if he's not the closer. Hopefully he can suck it up, but you know that he'll be pouting since it will be very very difficult for him to get a good contract for 2010 if he's not closing the final two months of the season. Hopefully someone will claim him off waivers and KW will send him to another team and we can get back someone useful. Wishful thinking. I say we keep him and use him in less important situations. I don't want to hear about how he won't be any good just because he's not used to less stressful innings. We're paying him good money, so he better pitch wherever the f*** he's told to pitch. And in regards to the bold part, I really hope Ozzie isn't taking this into account. They may be friends, but you cannot put one guy ahead of the entire team.

QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Aug 5, 2010 -> 03:36 PM) Sometimes. For some strange reason I was sitting here in the 9th inning, thought about starting one after the Kotsay HR...and decided to wait. I'm not kidding. Lots of them get written the next morning if it's a late night game. I like to get them out early if I can. What's the point of blogging if you can't provide the fastest commentary on the game. I just don't think I've ever seen you post one so quickly. A lot of times I'm not around a computer when a game thread gets posted, so I always assumed they were written up later.

QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Aug 5, 2010 -> 03:33 PM) Soxnet.net game wrapup. You write these during the game?
-
QUOTE (witesoxfan @ Aug 5, 2010 -> 03:33 PM) Anyone else think that was an audition for Sergio? Cuz I do. We have a few options that are better than Jenks right now, and that includes Santos, but Putz really should get the first nod.
-
Wow, congratulations on the subtitle of the thread. I mean honestly, that's awesome. And just like kyyle, I give Kotsay a reprieve for the day and possibly tomorrow. Good job, Freddy, and basically everyone except for Jenks.
-
Jenks just made me appreciate Kotsay. That's how bad he is.

QUOTE (BigSqwert @ Aug 5, 2010 -> 02:51 PM) Join the club. I can't watch because I'm at work. I had gameday up, and I feel just as angry as if I were watching it live. Looking at that bloated, disgusting face and that gross s*** he has on his chin on his gameday picture...I absolutely hate Jenks.
-
QUOTE (Steve9347 @ Aug 5, 2010 -> 02:39 PM) He has 41 steals in 55 attempts, and leads all of baseball in this category. I know he got caught a couple of times today, but he's still an elite base stealer. That's good for just under 75%. I'd say that it qualifies for pretty good, but definitely not elite.

I really f***ing hate this guy.

QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Aug 5, 2010 -> 08:36 AM) Bah, there's a difference between knowing that a guy throws 97 and seeing it in person. That said...the reason he should know it is that we faced Jackson several times in Detroit last year. That, and the fact that he's his manager. -

QUOTE (Hawk09 @ Aug 5, 2010 -> 07:41 AM) I have been saying this since the trade....Edwin Jackson is rated by fangraphs as having the #4 average fastball velocity in MLB, behind only Jiminez,Verlander, and Jock Johnson. This aint no average arm out there on Edwin. I loved how he froze Damon with that 97 mph fastball on the inside corner for a called third strike. Don't blink,Johnny. Did the pitcher and singer have a kid? -

Giving up only 1 walk is a great sign for this guy. QUOTE (iamshack @ Aug 5, 2010 -> 12:07 AM) At least he admitted it: ESPN "I didn't know he threw that hard" Isn't that something the manager should probably know? -
Good work on Rios and Lillibridge.
