  1. OK, I was driving earlier and I heard a blurb on the radio about MLB starting to test for HGH. Did I miss something?
  2. At least Smith will be closer to his aunt and uncle's house.
  3. I'm not sure if anyone has heard of Chicago Overcoat, but I watched that tonight. It's actually still in limited release, I believe, but I have a bootleg copy. It stars Frank Vincent and has appearances by Stacy Keach, Armand Assante, and Mike Starr. It definitely wasn't a great movie, but I enjoyed it enough. There were a lot of Chicago locations.
  4. Tonight's Futurama was great. I wasn't really sold on this season, but now I am.
  5. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Jul 22, 2010 -> 12:19 PM) We can have the Jenks arguments based on his performances, stats, and the like. The fat comments are just lazy. People can do better than that, at least I hope they can. It sure doesn't do anything to convince me personally that someone's argument is worth something if it leans on the physical stature of someone. Let all of the fat ass comments go, as it makes all of the intelligent arguments look bad here. Bobby Jenks isn't just fat or chubby. He's obese, and nobody will ever convince me that it isn't detrimental to his pitching performances.
  6. QUOTE (lostfan @ Jul 22, 2010 -> 07:34 AM) DFA is an overreaction IMO. That it's time for a new closer in 2011 is kind of a foregone conclusion to me though. It was a jab at an earlier post.
  7. QUOTE (Dick Allen @ Jul 22, 2010 -> 06:26 AM) Ozzie said Teahen is going to get some DH time when he comes back. Anyone still think the Sox really don't need a DH? Or a new manager?
  8. I think it's funny to note that Sox pitching held the Mariners scoreless for 27 straight innings. Bobby Jenks enters the game, and they promptly score (twice) to win a game against us as if they were the Twins from 2001-2004. Oh, and DFA his fat f***ing ass.
  9. QUOTE (Buehrle>Wood @ Jul 21, 2010 -> 07:09 PM) It's right. I'm just thinking about how my parents' pool is 15 feet and picturing the size of it.
  10. QUOTE (ChiSox_Sonix @ Jul 21, 2010 -> 01:12 PM) That's great and all, and your detailed analysis was interesting, but that doesnt change the fact that for the most part this season, he has not looked all that impressive or intimidating. And if you or anyone can say that you are perfectly comfortable with him protecting a 1 run lead down the stretch or in the playoffs, you either are lieing, are unaware of what true shut down closers look like, or don't care. That's not a knock on Jenks, it's just a statement of how he has looked this year. Beautiful.
  11. QUOTE (LittleHurt05 @ Jul 21, 2010 -> 08:45 AM) From a Yahoo story, Rule 8.06 of the Official Baseball Rules stipulates a trip to the mound begins when a manager or coach crosses the foul line and ends when he leaves the 18-foot dirt circle surrounding the pitcher’s rubber. Returning to the dirt constitutes a second trip, at which point the pitcher must be removed. Torre had been ejected earlier. Why pitching coach Rick Honeycutt didn't come out to talk to a pitcher??? I don't know. The mound is that big? 18 feet seems off.
  12. QUOTE (Jordan4life @ Jul 20, 2010 -> 11:55 PM) Total agreement. Putz and Omar have far exceeded any realistic expectations anybody could've had for them. Now only if we could get rid of Pierre, Jones and Kotsay. You said it. And again, I fell asleep before the game was even near over. I'm getting old.
  13. QUOTE (Jenksy Cat @ Jul 20, 2010 -> 10:09 PM) Good thing those don't matter for a closer. He pitches so few innings that one bad outing inflates all those stats. All I care about is 20/22
  14. QUOTE (fathom @ Jul 21, 2010 -> 12:09 AM) Please tell me someone else was watching top of 9th in Dodgers/Giants game. I can honestly say I've never seen that before. Mattingly went to mound to talk to Broxton, took a step off the mound, and then took two steps back to say one more thing to him. Giants manager saw this, and told the umpires that should count as two visits. Broxton was forced to leave, and Dodgers had no one warming up. Why was Mattingly (the hitting coach) talking to Broxton on the mound?
  15. QUOTE (Jenksy Cat @ Jul 20, 2010 -> 07:39 PM) No, just the inconsistency of the board. Jenks has been ragged on more than anyone who deserves to be on the team in the first place (not Kotsay, Williams, etc) yet in pure closer numbers hasn't been nearly that bad. Yeah he's making to much money and he's not the same as he once was, but the ridiculous amount of hate he has gotten is pretty f***ing pathetic. What's pathetic is his ERA...and WHIP.
  16. QUOTE (RockRaines @ Jul 20, 2010 -> 06:41 PM) I second this, Hot For Teacher still blows my mind. Don't forget Eruption. This is a tough choice, and there are quite a few "right" answers, but I have to agree with Van Halen. I get ragged on a lot by my friends because they consider Van Halen to be a hair band.
  17. QUOTE (Greg Hibbard @ Jul 20, 2010 -> 12:02 PM) I don't think anyone here would call Jenks an elite closer. I think he is an adequate closer, and that's the only role he can play on this team. I doubt Putz would perform at quite that insane of a clip in the 9th inning exclusively. Another point is that typically the 9th inning is set up to go through the heart of the order, whereas typically the 7th inning is going through the bottom of the order. I can think of one.
  18. QUOTE (BigSqwert @ Jul 20, 2010 -> 08:32 AM) Nice to see Hudson with a solid game. Sure it was against an anemic offense but hopefully it'll give him the confidence to attack hitters and be a solid starter for us the rest of the way. It still shows that he's ready for the majors. An anemic offense like Seattle will still put a hurtin' on a minor league pitcher (most of the time, at least).
  19. QUOTE (justBLAZE @ Jul 20, 2010 -> 03:40 AM) Great all around win. Tigers lose 6 in a row and now Detroit has their own third baseman problem with Brandon Inge out up to 6 weeks with a fractured hand. I've always liked Inge and think he's one of those guys that brings much more than production to his team. I think this hurts the Tigers a lot.
  20. I fell asleep really early (and am paying for it now, as I can't get back to sleep), so I missed the whole game. Great to see a good performance by Hudson and the offense while the Twins and Tigers both lose. Let's just take a few series in a row.
  21. QUOTE (T R U @ Jul 19, 2010 -> 09:20 PM) Undertaker is the longest I think currently.. Bob Holly use to be the 2nd longest till he got canned a few years ago Yeah, but doesn't Undertaker take breaks for months at a time (including right now)?
  22. QUOTE (witesoxfan @ Jul 19, 2010 -> 04:11 PM) If he had been excellent overall, he wouldn't have a 4.76 ERA or a 1.56 WHIP. He hasn't been excellent overall. Why do you bother?
  23. QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Jul 19, 2010 -> 10:01 AM) Frankly, I don't see anyone giving Bobby good money next season. He might well make less than we're paying Putz right now, based on his performance this year. Relievers with WHIP over 1.5 who can't pitch outside the closer's role aren't exactly going to be in huge demand. I don't think Putz would have any interest in signing an extension right now, and I can't imagine the Sox would be able to do so. If he keeps up this performance the whole season, I could easily see someone going out and signing him for 3/$30 to be their closer. But he's not good enough to be our closer.
  24. QUOTE (T R U @ Jul 19, 2010 -> 03:04 PM) I also forgot to mention, but I am pretty sure that Kane won the belt once before and then lost it to Austin immediately the next night on Raw.. it was a long time ago though, so you may want to double check that but im pretty sure that it did indeed happen.. I have seen stuff before indicating that Kane didnt really want to be champion anyways, but, like I already said I am pretty sure this is just going to lead to Kane being the one that took out Undertaker and their match at SummerSlam will be for the belt which Kane will almost surely drop.. He held the other heavyweight belt, plus the ECW one.
  25. QUOTE (The Critic @ Jul 19, 2010 -> 01:33 PM) I'm okay with Kane having a reign. He's been a solid worker who gets over and he doesn't seem to be a backstage whiner. An added plus is it got the belt off of Mysterio, who does bug me as world champ. Everyone knows wrestling is "fake" (except that kid yelling IT'S STILL REAL TO ME DAMMIT! in that video), but just because everyone knows it doesn't mean you have to have an elf as champion. I don't expect Kane to hold the strap very long, though. I'm not sure about this, but he might have the longest unbroken tenure with the franchise right now. He's definitely been around plenty long enough to get the title for a few days. I also hate Mysterio.
