Jenks will Close again
QUOTE (BigSqwert @ Aug 5, 2010 -> 03:46 PM) Cowley: I like that. It sounds like Ozzie is sick and tired of Jenks.

Jenks will Close again
QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Aug 5, 2010 -> 03:46 PM) By the way folks, just anticipating how these nights usually go...we're all going to be angry at Jenks, but at least for tonight, let's try not to go after him with the personal/body type insults. I still disagree, as his "body type" is definitely a factor in his effectiveness.

Jenks will Close again
QUOTE (caulfield12 @ Aug 5, 2010 -> 03:37 PM) Putz has to be the choice because of his experience and the fact he's only given up runs like twice in 3 months. You can use Thornton and Santos in high leverage situations...Santos becomes a little bit like our version of Joel Zumaya. I'm not sure what we do with Jenks in all honesty. Putting him behind Linebrink, I'd almost rather they DFA'ed him for the good of the team, because I really don't think he will be good for the Sox if he's not the closer. Hopefully he can suck it up, but you know that he'll be pouting since it will be very very difficult for him to get a good contract for 2010 if he's not closing the final two months of the season. Hopefully someone will claim him off waivers and KW will send him to another team and we can get back someone useful. Wishful thinking. I say we keep him and use him in less important situations. I don't want to hear about how he won't be any good just because he's not used to less stressful innings. We're paying him good money, so he better pitch wherever the f*** he's told to pitch. And in regards to the bold part, I really hope Ozzie isn't taking this into account. They may be friends, but you cannot put one guy ahead of the entire team.

AND THAT'S A WHITE SOX WINNER
QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Aug 5, 2010 -> 03:36 PM) Sometimes. For some strange reason I was sitting here in the 9th inning, thought about starting one after the Kotsay HR...and decided to wait. I'm not kidding. Lots of them get written the next morning if it's a late night game. I like to get them out early if I can. What's the point of blogging if you can't provide the fastest commentary on the game. I just don't think I've ever seen you post one so quickly. A lot of times I'm not around a computer when a game thread gets posted, so I always assumed they were written up later.

QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Aug 5, 2010 -> 03:33 PM) Soxnet.net game wrapup. You write these during the game?

AND THAT'S A WHITE SOX WINNER
QUOTE (witesoxfan @ Aug 5, 2010 -> 03:33 PM) Anyone else think that was an audition for Sergio? Cuz I do. We have a few options that are better than Jenks right now, and that includes Santos, but Putz really should get the first nod.

AND THAT'S A WHITE SOX WINNER
Wow, congratulations on the subtitle of the thread. I mean honestly, that's awesome. And just like kyyle, I give Kotsay a reprieve for the day and possibly tomorrow. Good job, Freddy, and basically everyone except for Jenks.

Jenks just made me appreciate Kotsay. That's how bad he is.

Jenks will Close again
QUOTE (BigSqwert @ Aug 5, 2010 -> 02:51 PM) Join the club. I can't watch because I'm at work. I had gameday up, and I feel just as angry as if I were watching it live. Looking at that bloated, disgusting face and that gross s*** he has on his chin on his gameday picture...I absolutely hate Jenks.

Has Pierre lost a step?
QUOTE (Steve9347 @ Aug 5, 2010 -> 02:39 PM) He has 41 steals in 55 attempts, and leads all of baseball in this category. I know he got caught a couple of times today, but he's still an elite base stealer. That's good for just under 75%. I'd say that it qualifies for pretty good, but definitely not elite.

I really f***ing hate this guy.

O. Guillen loves him some Kotsay, so removal is out of the equation
QUOTE (Quinarvy @ Aug 5, 2010 -> 10:46 AM) Milkman, sometimes I love your posts. This is one. Only sometimes?

AND THAT'S A WHITE SOX WINNER!!!
QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Aug 5, 2010 -> 08:36 AM) Bah, there's a difference between knowing that a guy throws 97 and seeing it in person. That said...the reason he should know it is that we faced Jackson several times in Detroit last year. That, and the fact that he's his manager.
-
AND THAT'S A WHITE SOX WINNER!!!
QUOTE (Hawk09 @ Aug 5, 2010 -> 07:41 AM) I have been saying this since the trade....Edwin Jackson is rated by fangraphs as having the #4 average fastball velocity in MLB, behind only Jiminez,Verlander, and Jock Johnson. This aint no average arm out there on Edwin. I loved how he froze Damon with that 97 mph fastball on the inside corner for a called third strike. Don't blink,Johnny. Did the pitcher and singer have a kid?

AND THAT'S A WHITE SOX WINNER!!!
Giving up only 1 walk is a great sign for this guy. QUOTE (iamshack @ Aug 5, 2010 -> 12:07 AM) At least he admitted it: ESPN "I didn't know he threw that hard" Isn't that something the manager should probably know?
-
G. Walker: Does he now get credit?
Good work on Rios and Lillibridge.

QUOTE (Hawk09 @ Aug 5, 2010 -> 07:34 AM) Nice breakdown. Kotsay has not hurt the Sox nearly as bad as percieved, despite hitting into bad luck for months. I would also contend that getting PK off the field may be worth Kotsays bad hitting. PK is healthier and fresher than he usually is this time of year...could be luck, but could be Kotsay! I hope that Ozzie gets the payoff and Kotsay's BABIP normalizes over the last two months, which would mean he would hit about .400 TEAHEN CAN DO THAT JOB.

Harrell Optioned to AAA.
QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Aug 4, 2010 -> 11:20 PM) Harrell was about one pitch better than Torres, plus some great defense. Neither one of them really were that good. Well yeah, neither one of them are going to be major league players.

How can an actual MLB manager continue to justify playing time for Mar
QUOTE (fathom @ Aug 4, 2010 -> 03:53 PM) I'm so sick of hearing these excuses about Sox players who are underachievers. No one is ever held resonsible for anything in this organization. Whe a hitter struggles, it's either mental issues or they're too valuable to get released. And it sucks.

How can an actual MLB manager continue to justify playing time for Mar
QUOTE (chw42 @ Aug 4, 2010 -> 03:45 PM) I almost regret posting what I just did about Kotsay's xBABIP and his new projected numbers. You know somebody's just going to put that to use in a bad way... First thing I thought was "Why did he even bother to do that?"

2010 MLB Catch-All Thread
QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Aug 4, 2010 -> 03:27 PM) That 49 HR, near MVP season he posted in 2004 seemingly out of nowhere, before falling back to earth the moment he signed his contract in Seattle certainly has raised some eyebrows. And now putting up great numbers for a franchise that has been riddled with abusers.

Double Header Sweeps
QUOTE (knightni @ Aug 4, 2010 -> 01:39 PM) Tigers sweep Tigers win game 1, lose game two Tigers lose game 1, win game two Sox sweep Sox win game 1, lose game two Sox win game 2, lose game one That's three different outcomes per team, two being a split (interchangeable). I don't know what is so hard to understand. It's sort of bothering me that you don't see it, ha.

Harrell Optioned to AAA.
QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Aug 4, 2010 -> 09:56 AM) Carlos Torres 110 pitches, 65 strikes, 5 walks. Lucas Harrell 98 pitches, 50 strikes, 5 walks. He lost that game in the first two innings (and that's when he couldn't throw a strike to save his life). Sure, he settled down when it was already too late.

2010 MLB Catch-All Thread
QUOTE (Jordan4life @ Aug 4, 2010 -> 11:24 AM) I don't know about that. Ortiz has gone 2006 (.977 OPS) on everybody the last three months and change. Then you've got Beltre, who's arguably been the best 3B in baseball, sporting a .937 OPS and .401 wOBA (9th overall). Nobody saw those two having the years they've had. Combine that with a healthy Ellsbury, Pedroia, Cameron, Youk and Martinez, and I think they're better, at least this year. And I hate defending the Red Sox in any manner. But I gotta be real. Nobody besides their steroid dealers
