  1. QUOTE (Friend of Nordhagen @ Aug 6, 2010 -> 08:31 PM) Buck Douchewalter and his stupid mind games . . . How'd you come up with that one?!
  2. Tony Pena is much better than most of you give him credit for. Awesome!
  3. This is turning out well. Losing the opening game in terrible fashion to the worst professional baseball team around.
  4. Another brilliant premiere performance for a White Sox rookie pitcher.
  5. QUOTE (rafacosta @ Aug 6, 2010 -> 08:08 PM) my goodness...im about to start drinking and getting to go out. this game is pissing me off. I was gonna stay in, but this is making me reconsider.
  6. QUOTE (caulfield12 @ Aug 6, 2010 -> 07:52 PM) Thought that was going out, dad gummit AJ....did Harrelson call it a homer? Kotsay with a bad jump, he hesitated, it's not 100% because he's slow, although that's undoubtedly part of the problem, too...should have pinch-run Lillibridge there probably. The Orioles are a different team the least 7-10 days under Showalter. We're not going to storm through them, I wouldn't be surprised if we only won 2/4. Tough to do that when he's starting at another position. And I don't give a s*** who their manager is. It doesn't change the fact that they're the worst team in all of baseball. 2/4 would be a travesty.
  7. QUOTE (fathom @ Aug 6, 2010 -> 07:50 PM) Wow, AJP has no power at all. This pitcher is so brutal, and all we get is one damn run. Plus he'd only thrown like 81 pitches at the start of that inning.
  8. STRETCH STRETCH STRETCH (never mind the outfielder getting read to grab ball) STRETCH DADGUMMIT
  9. Anyone going in there tonight? We can talk about how Danks is being made a fool of by the worst team in baseball.
  10. QUOTE (Soxbadger @ Aug 6, 2010 -> 04:15 PM) It is one of those moments when you just are not sure what the best course of action is. The development of the Atomic Bomb was not for the Japanese Front, it was to combat Hitler and to hopefully get one before he did. The use of the atomic bomb against Japan is debatable. In my opinion there is no right answer. No matter what thousands of people were going to die, whether it was American troops, Japanese troops or Japanese civilians. That being said, Im not sure that even the US understood what the ramifications of the bomb would be. When you're the leader of a nation, you choose to save your people every time.
  11. QUOTE (FlaSoxxJim @ Aug 6, 2010 -> 03:55 PM) That was certainly the majority opinion for many decades and now that is changing as more becomes known about Japan's capacity (or lack thereof) to continue its war efforts. That said, I respect this opinion, especially as held by WWII vets like my grandfather who believed whole-heartedly that Japan would not have surrendered otherwise. In any case, let us hope to never again see nuclear weapons used against fellow human beings. And that's all we can base it on. Given the circumstances at the time, it was the right decision.
  12. Yeah, I don't tell people I post here. And if someone sees me on the site, I say I just read it for news and information on the Sox.
  13. With all due respect to the people who suffered (and continue to suffer) due to the bombings, I still say it was the right decision.
  14. QUOTE (Greg Hibbard @ Aug 6, 2010 -> 09:19 AM) And the people crying foul over Bobby hanging a curve were begging him to throw one the past two weeks. Well, he f***ing threw one.... Do you think people wanted him to throw a hanging curve?

QUOTE (Steve9347 @ Aug 6, 2010 -> 09:07 AM) Everything I hear is that "The Other Guys" is flat-out comedy gold. Seeing it tonight. That's a little exaggeration, but it was definitely worth seeing in the theaters.

QUOTE (IceCreamPants @ Aug 6, 2010 -> 07:37 AM) I am thinking seeing the previews I seen all the best jokes. I wish I didnt watch any previews at all ever, they ruin things for me. Ferrell is the best, he has a great delivery where he takes an ordinary line and makes it funny. Na, that's not the case with this one.

I just got back from The Other Guys. It was pretty damn funny, although not as good as I had hoped. QUOTE (SleepyWhiteSox @ Aug 5, 2010 -> 11:43 PM) I saw the last exorcist tonight. It was dumb, not scary, and the ending made no sense. That's already out?
  18. QUOTE (Frankensteiner @ Aug 5, 2010 -> 08:01 PM) The thing with Jenks is, if he's not the closer, he's basically pretty much useless. If you don't have confidence in him to get 3 outs at the end of the game with the bases empty, you can't possibly bring him with guys on base in the 7th or 8th like we do with Putz or Thornton. So he's either the closer or another Linebrink. The Sox are a much better team if Jenks can handle closing duties so I can't blame Ozzie for sticking with him. I'm interested to see what Sale can provide us for the stretch run. OK, I keep seeing this. How many non-closing innings has Jenks pitched since he became the closer? I can't recall very many (unless it was just garbage time and he was given the ball to give him some use). I don't buy for a second that he's useless as anything but a closer, or that we should leave him as closer because of this logic.
  19. QUOTE (Jordan4life @ Aug 5, 2010 -> 05:09 PM) Ozzie doesn't have anybody playing over their heads. Outstanding starting pitching, a 3-week tear by CQ and a favorable schedule is how we got back in this. No manager that consistently runs Mark Kotsay out there as his everyday DH deserves credit. Would I be sticking by Ozzie if somebody other than Jenks blew the save? You obviously didn't see the thread I created a couple weeks ago. I've long soured on Ozzie Guillen. 2005 was exactly that. 2005. He's just not that good of manager. 3 blown saves in like 3 weeks? Yes. Sabotaging the season. What more do you guys need? Another blown save tomorrow or next week? We've got a f***ing 1 game lead and we have a closer that can't be trusted with a 2-3 run lead, let along a 1 run lead. Those two points need emphasis. We are just barely winning this division, and that is due to a ridiculous stretch of great play. We can't afford to stick with a closer like Jenks. He can't even hold multiple-run leads.
  20. QUOTE (Hawk09 @ Aug 5, 2010 -> 03:59 PM) Here is the deal.... Thornton sucked today....walked two to lead off the inning? JJ Putz sucked yesterday....did he even get an out? And today he gave up a rope that Alexei miraculously turned into a inning ending doubleplay. Sergio struggled as recently as last week. Hello, gang, Bobby was nasty today, cept for no command of his breaking stuff. If they stick to fastballs,he closes it out no problem. The Twins new closer blew a save this week. It happens. Bobbys stuff is still very good...97mph fastball. The breaking ball to Raeburn was a stupid pitch to call....that is all. Wow, Hawk Harrelson actually posts on this board. When are you going to retire, Ken?
  21. QUOTE (Lemon_44 @ Aug 5, 2010 -> 04:03 PM) I have no problem with Jenks closing. He's throwing the ball real well right now. He's hitting the upper 90's and has 3 pitches for a closer. He hung a ball to Raburn. Today is the 1st time he's thrown a bad pitch in awhile. It's not like he's going out there and topping out at 90 with a rolling curve to go with it. He didn't have a good curve today, they should've just stuck with the heat and it likely would have been over. What will it take some of you people to admit this guy sucks?
  22. QUOTE (Jenksy Cat @ Aug 5, 2010 -> 03:54 PM) How so? Bobby was better when he was fatter. So he becomes less dominant as he loses weight? He's the fattest he's ever been, and he's terrible. They keep saying he's losing weight each offseason, but he gets larger each year.
