Catch All Anything Thread
QUOTE (FlaSoxxJim @ Jan 4, 2010 -> 04:48 PM) It closed in 1999 and was demolished a couple years ago to make room for yet another friggin' Wal-Mart. The oter one I remember going to as a kid was at around 75th and just off Western. Can't remember the name and I know it was a big flea market spot as well. I'm sure it's long-gone as well. I know where you are talking about, and I think it's one of those giant churches or something now.

Phil Rogers bash session
QUOTE (elrockinMT @ Jan 2, 2010 -> 04:43 PM) Why are folks so anti--Sox veterans? Generic production from Konerko? I have to disagree. And Peavy does have to show us what he has and do it for a full year. I think he can, but we need to see it I'm not sure what you don't understand. Look at Konerko's production in the last three years. In comparison to other first basemen in baseball, those numbers seem rather mediocre or maybe worse.

QUOTE (StrangeSox @ Dec 29, 2009 -> 07:58 AM) The Kite Runner was good but not up to the hype it got. Seemed like another one of those "the book was better" movies. I think the king of all of those types of movies is The Running Man. I couldn't put that book down. There has never been another book that I was so into reading, but the movie was nothing like the book. I can't even emphasize enough how different they are to anyone who has seen the movie but not read the book.

QUOTE (LosMediasBlancas @ Dec 28, 2009 -> 02:32 PM) A couple of old ones that I've watched again recently: 'In Bruges', gets better each time. 'Made' with Vince Vaughn, pretty funny and must hold the record for having the F word used most often in the history of film. Love it.

QUOTE (BigSqwert @ Dec 28, 2009 -> 11:55 AM) Watched a lot of stuff on netflix instant watch over the past week... Food Inc: Very good documentary on food. A must see. Quarantine: Surprisingly solid horror film. Barry Lyndon: Finally got around to seeing it. Very long but fantastic. Best in Show: Seen this one quite a few times already and love it. Screened it for my daughter who's never seen it before. Garden State: Awesome. The Wackness: Pretty meh although I liked the soundtrack and Ben Kinglsey's character. Also, have tickets for Avatar at Navy Pier Imax tonight. Ever see Sexy Beast?

Best of the Decade in Chicago Sports
QUOTE (chw42 @ Dec 22, 2009 -> 01:09 PM) Something the Sox have done is winning or in second in every one of those polls. Well, they're the only major team to actually have done something this decade, so that's probably the reason.

QUOTE (NorthSideSox72 @ Dec 21, 2009 -> 06:50 PM) I can't believe how good the reviews have been for Avatar. The previews looked like it was just a big long video game. I might have to go see it. Which is both good and bad, IMO. I thought there was a good chance I'd hate Avatar, or at least be let down a lot. It was one of the best movie experiences of my life. It's not the best movie I've ever seen, or even close, but it was like my mind was constantly being blown by the amazing visuals. You have to see it in Imax 3D.

I didn't know that many people still watched Survivor.

If you have a chance to see Avatar in Imax 3D, I strongly urge you to go see it as soon as possible. It's safe to say that my mind was blown, and not much has that effect on me.

Does anyone else almost always wake up feeling guilty after a night of drinking? I don't know why, but I always feel like I did something wrong.

Supposed to see Avatar in Imax today, but I really would rather just lay around all day and do nothing.

QUOTE (Brian @ Dec 16, 2009 -> 05:37 PM) If anyone but Lithgow wins the Golden Globe for Best Supporting Actor in a Drama, the awards show should be cancelled. I knew it was a huge pick-up the second they announced it. But screw the Golden Globe, he should get another Emmy.

QUOTE (Flash Tizzle @ Dec 15, 2009 -> 07:56 PM) The movie Doomsday was spectacular. I couldn't help but enjoy it. I recorded it when UVerse offered free premium channels over the Thanksgiving weekend, and didn't have a chance to watch it until now. I may never delete it from my DVR. If you enjoyed Road Warrior, Dawn of the Dead, and 28 Days Later you'll appreciate this film. I liked it, but I mean, really?

White Sox Non-Tender DJ Carrasco
QUOTE (The Critic @ Dec 12, 2009 -> 06:16 PM) They sign a guy for 3 million coming off a bad and injured year, and they non-tender one of the few relievers who didn't make me want to vomit. Awesome. Exactly.

QUOTE (BigSqwert @ Dec 13, 2009 -> 05:01 PM) I'll be going on the 28th with my daughter. BTW, I agree on The Road. Good but nothing special. Was annoyed at all the added music during "touching" moments. Poor use of music in a film. And the book was much better. Other then Viggo and the cinematography the movie would have been meh. I don't know about you, but I'm getting tired of seeing Viggo's junk in every movie he's in.

Mark Buehrle's Perfect American Chopper
QUOTE (Jordan4life @ Dec 8, 2009 -> 12:28 PM) That was kinda of a knee-jerk response to WCsox's ridiculous 'I'd like to see a pitcher today win 40 games or pitch 400 innings' comment. But like I said, I'm not getting into some big debate over a dude from over a century ago. There isn't a human being walking the face of the earth that would put Ed Walsh over Frank Thomas among White Sox all-time greats (sad that a franchise that's been around as long as the Sox have don't really have that many to begin with). I've learned over time to pick and choose my message board 'battles.' WCsox is the kinda dude that will post about a specific topic until New Year's in order to get the last word in or to prove he's 'right'. I don't got time for that. Gotcha, if anyone knows about knee-jerk reactions it's me. That line just ground my gears.

Mark Buehrle's Perfect American Chopper
QUOTE (Jordan4life @ Dec 7, 2009 -> 05:53 PM) So is he one of the top 10 pitchers ever? Context is very important when you want to throw out names of guys that played, like, 100 years ago. And I never brushed him off. I said from the start he was great for that time. Now if you're saying he's one of the best pitchers ever because he has the lowest ERA ever, well, I'll just stay out of it. QUOTE (Jordan4life @ Dec 7, 2009 -> 02:14 PM) Again, he was great for that time. And lol@you would like to see a pitcher today win 40 games or throw 400 innings. I'd like to see Ed Walsh in today's game attempting to keep his ERA below 10. That sounds pretty much like you're brushing him off to me.
