No one's made a Sox loser thread after 8/23 loss
Milkman delivers replied to CaliSoxFanViaSWside's topic in Pale Hose Talk
I think it's reasonable for any fan to start getting that feeling of hopelessness. We've never beaten the Twins for this division when both teams were competitive. They always beat us down the stretch, and the Sox always choke at the end of the year. -

QUOTE (winninguglyin83 @ Aug 23, 2008 -> 10:58 PM) is linebrink ever going to come back? Yes, when the f*** is this guy returning? He must've missed half the season already. Is there a date for his return? -

QUOTE (fathom @ Aug 23, 2008 -> 07:00 PM) Thornton had the chance to get out of that inning with the Sox still tied if OC could field the damn ball. Does he have naked pictures of the official scorer? I've never seen a player get the benefit of the call more than he does. He better f***ing not win a gold glove this year. I will actively be rooting against it. And honestly, this is a playoff caliber team? -

QUOTE (Sonik22 @ Aug 24, 2008 -> 04:25 AM) f*** yes! Gold baby!!!!!!!!!!!! Ha, that's a little vague. In what event? -
QUOTE (iamshack @ Aug 23, 2008 -> 01:24 PM) Well, no offense, sir, but "from what 'you' can tell" is not accurate. Do you get to watch the games at all? I'm not trying to mock you or anything, but I see you're from Vegas. Dotel throws a fastball. That is it.
-
Two games into the their road trip, the Twins are 2-0. That's not good for us.
-
Since there's little point in watching the game that's on right now, I'm going to watch Road to Perdition. This is going to be my personal farewell to Paul Newman. To me, this was his greatest role. He was a guy I could never see as a bad guy, and then he went and pulled it off perfectly in this role.

I really hate it when we go on a nice roll, and then we lose to serious playoff contenders. It's disheartening. -

I didn't see the second homer. Was it on a fastball? -

Wow, forget it. I think the book's out on Dotel. He throws fastballs...that's it. -

QUOTE (ChiSox_Sonix @ Aug 22, 2008 -> 09:29 PM) They've been awesome all year but today Quentin, Dye and Alexei have combined to go 0-9, 4K, 2 GIDP, 15 LOB And we're still in it, somehow. It'd be nice to snatch a victory from the jaws of defeat, instead of snatching a loss from the jaws of victory, which we've seen plenty of in the last month. -

QUOTE (fathom @ Aug 22, 2008 -> 09:28 PM) I can't remember the last time Dye delivered in a situation like this. This has been a whole team failure so far tonight. Are you including Danks? He didn't pitch his best, but c'mon. -

Well, if they can get through our two toughest hitters, they deserve to win and we deserve to lose. Sorry, Danks. Another undeserved loss might be heading your way. -

QUOTE (Wanne @ Aug 22, 2008 -> 09:12 PM) Seriously...god forbid they score more than 3, 4 or 5 runs when he pitches. I would like to know what the average runs scored for Danks is, but only the runs scored while he's still in the game. It has to be at the bottom of the league. -

I hate this offense when Danks pitches. That guy gets screwed by the offense more than any player I can remember. -
Nobody's doing anything tonight, so I'm staying in to watch the game. Anyone else going to be around again?

QUOTE (Paint it Black @ Aug 22, 2008 -> 03:27 PM) Yeah, Willie Harris? c'mon guys. I'm calling it now by the way, Aaron Rowand will be number one, which is a crime. I will bet you any amount of money that he is not.

QUOTE (YASNY @ Aug 22, 2008 -> 08:50 AM) Stat worthiness has been discussed on Soxtalk ad nausem, and will continue to be discussed. But you take one sentence out of a "favorite players" bio because you happen to disagree with and start sniping. The man was enjoying writing these bio's and had stepped up and volunteered to help write as many he can. Now, he's washed his hands of the whole damn thing and I don't blame him one iota. This thread, and the others like it are meant to light and fun. There are plenty of threads where discussion and disagreement can take place and be totally appropriate, but this wasn't one them. Basically, by turning into a discussion on the value of a save to judge a player, you hijacked the thread. Oh, and Milkman, before you jump all over me for this post, I took into consideration what you said about me being critical of negative posts and decided you may have a valid point so I backed off and have refrained from doing that quite so much. However, I couldn't let this go without putting in my two cents. It's not so much the negative posts themselves, it's the thread that they occured and the time and effort being put into these threads by various people to make this a fun and enjoyable series of threads. Ha, it's all good.

QUOTE (whitesoxbrian @ Aug 21, 2008 -> 11:37 PM) They didn't necessarily give up on Volquez- they just had much more faith in Hamilton. He didn't say they gave up on him. He said they gave him up. Those are clearly different.

QUOTE (Brian @ Aug 22, 2008 -> 03:50 PM) Alright, here we go. I didn't think "Tropic Thunder" was as bad as a lot of people say. I laughed a few times and was entertained. It wasn't as great as some critics say. McConaghey was awesome and RDJr. It's one of those movies I watched, liked, but won't buy or watch again. The part I laughed the most at, was when McConaghey tells Stiller that he is lucky that he gets to pick his son. Than pans to the photo of him with the cheesy smile next to his son. I have no idea why I found it so hilarious, but it took me like a minute to settle down. Also, like 4 people walked out in the middle of it. I think that is stupid. You pay $7 a piece to see a movie than leave in the middle of it. I have paid to see some stinkers and stuck around for the whole thing so I don't feel jipped. First of all, that's an insult to my proud Gypsy heritage. Second, I've only walked out of (I think) three movies in my entire life. And I've seen a ton of movies. The reason I understand walking out of a movie goes back to basic economics. You already paid the money. It's a sunk cost, and you are not getting it back. But, you could presumably spend the rest of the time, that you would have been in the theater, doing something you actually like. I wouldn't do it that often, as I said that I've only done it a couple of times, but sometimes it is warranted.

QUOTE (Texsox @ Aug 21, 2008 -> 07:55 PM) The team is in first. We put togewther a list of the fan's favorites and instead the usual soxtalk negativity comes s***ting through. What you call negativity, another poster may call the truth. Felix didn't say Gagne had a better season to be a dick, he said it because he believes that Gagne had a better season.

QUOTE (DBAHO @ Aug 21, 2008 -> 09:24 AM) Oh just that you don't like him. Don't know if I should have said disagree or not (basically because he's been my favorite wrestler over the past decade since the E & C days), and the way he has evolved over time. Yeah, it came across weird to me. -

QUOTE (whitesoxfan101 @ Aug 20, 2008 -> 12:20 PM) The United States male volleyball team erases 1 to 0 and 2 to 1 game deficits to win 3-2 over Serbia in the tiebreaker and advance to the semifinals. The women's volleyball team won in almost identical fashion over Italy yesterday to advance to the semifinals as well. The women's water polo team is already in the finals, and the men's water polo team plays Serbia (seems like quite a few battles between those two nations in the olympics) in the semifinals. The beach volleyball finals on the men's and women's sides both have U.S. teams in it too. The U.S. softball team is in the finals after an extra inning win last night, and the U.S. baseball team plays Cuba in the semifinals. The men's and women's basketball teams are in the semifinals as well obviously. As for Usain Bolt, wow. Even by his lofty standards, wow. Hehehe.
