QUOTE (witesoxfan @ Aug 12, 2008 -> 01:39 AM) I don't think anyone foresaw Crede's back injury lingering as long as it has nor Contreras blowing out his achilles (but if you did see that, you should have let him know about it...maybe just give him a shove and a nod about not covering first on that particular play). The Twins also played the mighty, mighty Seattle Mariners and proceeded to lose the series and then played the ever so tough Kansas City Royals (who I fully expect the White Sox will sweep, though I obviously can't be certain of that). This is also just the beginning of the Twins roadtripping. A 14 game and 10 game road trip mixed in there while the Sox have 9 of their next 12 at home and like 19 of the next 31 are at home too. My only cause for concern are the injuries that are occurring to this team, but there have been some trades that have been made that look like they'll help the Sox down the stretch. Horacio Ramirez may or may not be a suitable bullpen arm but he's been solid this year and if Carrasco sucks I could very easily envision the Sox either picking up Paul Byrd or calling up Poreda and giving him a shot down the stretch. Otherwise, the rest of everything will work itself out. The offense is generally too inconsistent to go on a long winning streak, but if they keep hitting homers, they'll be a good team down the stretch. I very much doubt it. We always find a way to lose to crappy teams, especially the Royals this year.

I was pretty much wrong on every prediction, whether pessimistic or optimistic. I'll just narrow it down and say the few things I got correct. Vazquez, Danks, and Ramirez.

QUOTE (joesaiditstrue @ Aug 11, 2008 -> 09:47 PM) their fans are convinced we are going to win the division it's funny the similarities between us just shows you that both of these teams are massively flawed and not great, the division is a crapshoot at this point Ha, playing to see who gets bounced by the Angels/Rays? It really feels like it. I can definitely see us making the playoffs, but I feel like we'd get dominated by either of those two.

QUOTE (Jenksy Cat @ Aug 11, 2008 -> 09:45 PM) Kinda like how they destroyed the worst team in baseball up in Seatle. The Twins are unstopable. Well, they're somehow still in first place.
-
QUOTE (joesaiditstrue @ Aug 11, 2008 -> 09:43 PM) if we can just keep pace with the twins, who have also not played all that great..., once they start playing Oakland, LAA, and Tampa on the road.. i like our chances So, basically we just have to keep playing .500 ball and expect the Twins to play worse than that.
-
It's painfully obvious we need to add pitchers. Anyone who denies it is just ignoring a gaping, growing hole. The bullpen is entirely hit or miss, and we're going to have a black hole in the 5th starter spot. If KW doesn't add some depth, we go nowhere.
-
We seem to be settling for playing .500 for the most part. That will not get us into the playoffs.

So, Beckett = Maddux?

QUOTE (southsideirish71 @ Aug 11, 2008 -> 09:24 PM) The Joe Mays attack model. Our lack of offensive execution in games where we dont deposit the ball over the fence is a joke. If we dont hit home runs, we cant win. Honestly, did anyone think "the momentum is going to swing the other way now" after the Crisp catch?

QUOTE (fathom @ Aug 11, 2008 -> 08:52 PM) That Lowell AB killed him. He was aiming the ball, and couldn't get it over the plate. He looked like Johan Santana for the first 6 innings of this game though. He still easily deserves to win. This offense has screwed Danks over on a consistent basis this year. It pisses me off to see him screwed time and again by them.
-
As soon as Crisp robbed Thome, I had a terrible feeling that they were going to take the lead. I hope Danks doesn't get f***ed in the ass by the offense for the 30th time this season.

QUOTE (witesoxfan @ Aug 11, 2008 -> 04:35 PM) Schoeneweis had an ERA of 3.64 in his first 10 starts in 2004 (April and May, 64.1 innings) From June and beyond, his ERA was 8.14 in 48.1 IP. He was very good in the first two months, and then he was worse than a AA pitcher for 4 months. Sweet, I was pretty much on.

QUOTE (Steve9347 @ Aug 11, 2008 -> 04:50 PM) It is... and both gender's will love it too. My wife went laugh crazy for like 3 minutes during the movie, she couldn't stop, because a part she thought was hilarious happened, and right as she calmed down, a part that made me go apes*** in turn made her go laugh crazy all over again. It's entirely enjoyable. People trying to take this film too seriously will lose out. What part was that? I recall a similar thing happening when I went.

Are you suggesting that Tampa Bay has the AL East locked up?

I didn't realize Kittle looked like such a dork back then.

Cool, maybe I was wrong and the media will start swinging towards Quentin.

QUOTE (ptatc @ Aug 11, 2008 -> 01:29 PM) His career doesn't sound all that different than DJ Carassco and everyone wants Carassco to start games now. Although German was never released, bought for a dollar and got cut in Japan after 3 appearances. Whose to say German can't turn it around while a little older? Give him a shot. I don't know if he will but who would have thought people would want Carassco to start at this time of the year? What are you talking about? Who wants Carrasco to start?

QUOTE (Leonard Zelig @ Aug 11, 2008 -> 01:03 PM) According to my sister, Estelle Getty was actually the first of the trifecta. That was over three weeks ago. I don't think she fits into this one.

QUOTE (Gregory Pratt @ Aug 11, 2008 -> 01:10 PM) He's only one of the most celebrated men of the last sixty years. RIP. Just recently took a class on Russian literature in the Soviet age and he was a prominent figure in the second-to-last half of the class. Be that as it may, he's still not famous enough.

QUOTE (Winning Ugly @ Aug 11, 2008 -> 01:04 PM) He was 6-9 in 19 starts for us in 2004. I think he started out winning first 3 gaes, then just ran out of gas. Yeah, I thought he actually pitched well for like a month to about a month and a half. That was just a guess off the top of my head, though.

QUOTE (Leonard Zelig @ Aug 11, 2008 -> 12:34 PM) Come on, it was uner 7 innings and like 6 years ago. That wasn't obvious sarcasm?
-
QUOTE (GreatScott82 @ Aug 11, 2008 -> 12:48 PM) As long as it works out better than the Schoenwise experiment i'll be fine with it. The 5th spot has 9 starts the rest of the year, i find it hard to believe that KW isn't going to aqcuire a veteran starter. I might be wrong, but didn't Schoeneweis actually pitch pretty well to start off the season when he started?

Official Squared Circle Thread
Milkman delivers replied to Chisoxfn's topic in Alex’s Olde Tyme Sports Pub
No, seriously, why was it unpinned? It is, by far, the biggest thread in this forum. If anything, unpin one of the useless threads. -
QUOTE (WilliamTell @ Aug 11, 2008 -> 12:23 PM) Hopefully the 3rd person was supposed to be Morgan Freeman since he lived, and have no more surprising deaths, but probably not. Well, if recent horror movies have taught me anything, the force that Freeman escaped will keep coming after him until it gets him.

I'd like to think that I'd grab the fire extinguisher (I believe buses are required to have those) and bash the guy unconscious with it while he was focused on the victim. But, who knows what any of us would do?
