Gavin Floyd is bald.
I think Gavin has really had a turn around in personality this year. I could be wrong, but it seems that he was always stressed or scared out there, and now he seems to have settled in, relaxed, and become one of the guys. And even though his ERA is drifting back towards average, he's been great to watch this year.

And that's a White Sox Winner!
QUOTE (witesoxfan @ Aug 10, 2008 -> 08:52 PM) Well then the voting process needs to be reviewed; quite bluntly, they'd be voting for Hamilton because he did heroin. Exactly, but I think it's almost set in stone that he will win it.

Paul Newman has "weeks to live"
QUOTE (Texsox @ Aug 10, 2008 -> 08:24 PM) His Oscar nominations stretch all the way from 1959 with Cat on a Hot Tin Roof to 2003 Road to Perdition. The Color of Money / Hustler was a unique twist as well. For which I think he should've won the Oscar.

2008 Beijing Summer Olympics Thread
QUOTE (WilliamTell @ Aug 10, 2008 -> 05:42 PM) It's fun watching the Olympics. Yesterday that bike race had an awesome finish. Then there are other "sports" that you never get to see, only at the Olympics. I fixed it for you.

Issac Hayes dies at 65
Even though I strongly disagree with his religious beliefs, he seemed to be a good man and he definitely seemed to have a great sense of humor. RIP, Isaac.

Paul Newman is just plain awesome. He's one of those guys that you can easily say is one of the greatest actors ever.

And that's a White Sox Winner!
QUOTE (joesaiditstrue @ Aug 10, 2008 -> 04:18 PM) was talking to this braves fan who IMO talks about the Red Sox like he's a closet Sawx fan as well, he argued that Quentin still won't get MVP because of Hamilton's story, no matter how well Quentin plays the rest of the season I spent the weekend with a few Red Sox fans, a few of them are actually knowledgeable to the game. While they agreed that Quentin deserves it, there's no way he wins it. Hamilton is a lock in everyone's eyes, even if they know he doesn't deserve it. It's what I've been saying for about a month.

It's Broadway and Getz
I like what Carrasco has given the team so far, but he's not going to cut it as a starter. You get the feeling when he pitches that it's only a matter of time before he comes back to Earth. And Broadway, well he sucks. This is hopefully a stopgap until we acquire an actual starter.

Sox acquire Horacio Ramirez from KC
QUOTE (JorgeFabregas @ Aug 10, 2008 -> 12:13 PM) Broadway to the pen, Carrasco to the rotation per WSCR. Oh my God, this can't be happening.

Sox acquire Horacio Ramirez from KC
QUOTE (caulfield12 @ Aug 10, 2008 -> 11:50 AM) At least 2-3 more weeks, if then...not looking especially optimistic. Is Hermanson finally ready, lol? We already tried Loiaza. Man, he's been out FOREVER.

Jose Contreras Done For Year
I personally think it'd be the worst move to pick up Washburn. The guy is horrendous. Everything about him says that he'll be even worse playing in Chicago. And if we'd be on the hook for him in 2009, which I think someone said we would, that just makes the deal unbelievably bad. If we are going to pick up a pitcher that has been mentioned (Washburn, Maddux, and Byrd), then the best bet is Byrd, as he has shown that he can have success in the AL. There are still two huge problems with that, too. We'd have to convince the Indians to actually trade him to us, and I'm also pretty sure that he's heavily dependent on his defense, and ours sucks.

Jose Contreras Done For Year
It's unfortunate that this injury didn't happen before the trade deadline. We've been waiting seemingly forever for this guy to return, only to have him end his own season in the second inning of his first game back. That really f***s the White Sox over. I know it's not his fault, but thanks a lot, Jose. You could not have had worse timing if you planned it.

Sox acquire Horacio Ramirez from KC
It doesn't hurt to pick up Ramirez, as we gave up nothing at all for him. But, I expect very little out of him. The situation the White Sox find themselves in right now is looking bleaker and bleaker. We REALLY need to get another, legitimate starter. And we'll probably need to get another reliever, but Ramirez might end up filling that void. Plus, we need Linebrink to come back healthy ASAP. If all of these things happen, we still have a good shot at making the playoffs. When the hell is Linebrink supposed to be returning, anyway? I feel like he's been out for like 3 months.

Short on answers
QUOTE (joeynach @ Aug 10, 2008 -> 04:32 AM) There is no doubt this team is pretty banged up and probably wont be 100% for the rest of the year. Its starting to catch up with this team, bad bullpen, bad starting pitching, weak 3B. So the question is where are the answers. Getting rid of Massett and sending Boone down is a great start, those were both non productive members of the pen. Getting Linebrink back would be a big boost, but we need more if we are really gonna win this division. Uribe's glove is nice at 3B and fields was really becoming a liability there. Hopefully Crede can come back and be productive, but its looks like thats 50/50 with his recent setback. We could really use a solid replacement in the rotation. Do we try and rely on guys like Rusell, Broadway, Poreda, etc or do we try and hit the waiver wire with Maddux, Washburn, or Byrd. I think Maddux would get killed in our ballpark but Washburn might be OK. Are we really anchoring the problems in our pen with Horacio Ramirez, what options do we have. This is huge for KW and the team....the next few moves we make could make us or break us. Either way its going to interseting, but I just dont know if there is enough in our minor leagues or via the waiver wire to solidify this team enough. Seems like we are kind of short answers! If those are the choices, I'd say Byrd is clearly the best bet. Even if we were to make the playoffs, I can't see us doing very much against the Angels or Rays. The Angels, especially, seem like a team that is well out of our league.

Interesting Oz quotes after disappointing loss
QUOTE (greg775 @ Aug 10, 2008 -> 01:37 AM) So do the entire KC Royals team. They are a disgrace. They fold vs. the Tigers and Twins at home and they'll kick our ass at least one of the games in the upcoming series, maybe 2. What a joke they are. Ha, what?! Are you assuming the Royals only play hard against us, and roll over for the Tigers and Twins? Put some blame on the team that's dropping games to such a crappy opponent.

Interesting Oz quotes after disappointing loss
QUOTE (SoxFanForever @ Aug 10, 2008 -> 01:03 AM) Boone needs to be put out to pasture. I had the misfortune of watching last night's game with a bunch of Red Sox fans. I had to point out how disgusted I was with Logan after he put on about 5 lefties when he is supposed to be a LOOGY. That's just disgraceful.

50 FAVORITE WHITE SOX PLAYERS
I would love to make a long post here, but I'm literally walking out the door in 5 minutes. I'll be gone for the weekend, but I'll definitely be bumping this thread when I return. I will also expound on the biography. Who are the other three that voted for him? I am actually surprised it was only four total.

f***, I just got in to see that catch. Was Vazquez as bad as his line? Words can't describe my hatred of Javier Vazquez.

QUOTE (Leonard Zelig @ Aug 7, 2008 -> 03:38 PM) I got no good caption, but what is happening here in this pic? Is this photo shop or something? It was a promotional thing for the Walking With Dinosaurs exhibit that is going all over the country. It's something of an animatronic thing that walks around.

I've got an awesome idea...
QUOTE (witesoxfan @ Aug 7, 2008 -> 07:10 AM) For f***'s sake, the Sox aren't the goddamn Marlins. You don't trade every player over 28 and trade them for any valuable piece of prospect you can. The Sox have money to spend and I would bet good money that you see both Dye and Thome in the opening day lineup come next season. Rebuilding is not an option at this point, and the word "rebuild" means nothing to Kenny Williams unless it comes in terms of a building or structure they want rebuilt. And I'd also bet a great amount of money Vazquez is back next year. KW has a super 'Peter North' hard-on for Vazquez and, if that didn't go away with 2006, it's not going away with a mediocre 2008 barring a catastrophic meltdown. No, cancel any and all plans for a rebuild and stop thinking about it now. Think about ways you can beat the top teams in the AL for a World Series appearance in 2009, cuz otherwise you suck. I'll disagree completely that a rebuild is necessary. I will also disagree with assumption that the Sox have limited resources (which is my assumption, seeing as how you are comparing the White Sox with the Sawkxzzzzzzzzz and the Yankzzzzzzz)...their payroll is in the top 7 or 8 and it's over $100 mill...the Sox don't rebuild; they spend wisely and occasionally have bad seasons. Perhaps the Sox will have to rebuild, but with Alexei for 3 years, Quentin, Danks, and Floyd for 3 years, and Swisher until 2012 (BUT HE HITS .230 HE SUCKS) (till whenever), the Sox have a fantastic core to build around and the word rebuild has never and will never enter my scope of reality, nor should it KW's. If those guys fizzle out, F*** IT, find someone else who fits the bill. It's not that big of deal. No, stop saying rebuild or rebuilding or whatever version of the word you want to use with a first place team that has several pieces to work with towards the future. Stop. Please. Stop now. Stop. Stop. Stop. Now. Yep. Pablo Ozuna against CC Sabathia, last season. Bad season, but it's happened in the past and Ozzie loves his matchups. Podsednik started the next game. Erstad still sucked through all of eternity, though thankfully he's from North Dakota and he sucks superass. He also knows Griffey is GRIFFEY and will do whatever because it's GRIFFEY. Rebuild I'm only saying, every team has to eventually consider rebuilding when the players just become too old. The few exceptions are the ones I mentioned, with the ridiculously unfair payrolls.

uh, White Sox winner
QUOTE (witesoxfan @ Aug 6, 2008 -> 10:30 PM) I actually wasn't even thinking about you because you come on here regardless of win or loss. You swing from side to side pretty easily but you can be pretty level headed, even in extreme circumstances. There are just some on here that seem to suggest that the season was over even when the Sox were in first place because the Sox didn't pick up any pitching at the deadline when the White Sox have one of the best ERAs...like a top 5 ERA...in the entire AL, even after July. They've been banged up, out of rhythm, a victim of being on the road, and a victim of pitching in heat. You are already starting to see them pitch much, much better of late as they are readjusting themselves to their new roles (Carrasco is apparently a hell of a replacement for Masset) and a general rhythm and flow to the staff is being re-established. If Ozzie is smart, he will slowly work Linebrink back into the 8th inning role whenever he gets back and not in the first game back. Ozzie's smart enough and he knows better than that. It's just funny that some of those people haven't been here the past couple days. I'm always paranoid in these situations, so I would just like to say that I've been around the last few days.
