QUOTE (knightni @ Aug 6, 2008 -> 06:53 PM) It makes me sad every time momma Bobby D and daddy Milky D fight. I want to go cry in my closet. Ha, yes! I'm the man in the relationship.

QUOTE (Soxbadger @ Aug 6, 2008 -> 01:56 PM) Milkman, The last time the Sox tried to rebuild Id consider the "White Flag" trade. How did the fans react to that? Point taken. But, at some point, a rebuild will have to be necessary. We don't have the resources of the Red Sox and Yankees. Those are the kinds of teams that don't have to rebuild because of the outrageous amount of money they can put out there. Eventually, we'll have to rebuild, and the fans will just have to deal with it. I'm sure most of us would watch a rebuilding team, but I understand that a whole lot of people wouldn't.

QUOTE (lostfan @ Aug 6, 2008 -> 01:51 PM) Which of the "old guys" are you going to dump, and how are you going to do it? And how will you justify dumping Jermaine Dye? Well, fortunately I'm not the GM and I don't have to come up with the specifics. I'd actually take Jenks off the no-trade list. He seems like a guy who can be sold high on before he drops off too much. And dumping Dye would be justified if we were going to do a sort of rebuild, as he'd be useless to a rebuilding team and would bring a nice package back in a trade. I'd definitely trade Vazquez, and hope to get something of worth for Konerko and Contreras (although they wouldn't bring back very much at this time). Some of the relievers would have to bring back something, too.

To ptatc and thedoctor, agree to disagree. I am more a believer that, with the age of our players and lack of depth in our farm system, we should look to rebuild if we don't find the promised land again this year. I felt this way last year, and so far it seems like I was definitely wrong. But, the team is definitely getting older and I don't see that solving itself. Sooner or later it will probably have to be done, and that might just be my own opinion. And again, let me clarify that I'm not talking about a total rebuild, but more of sacrificing a couple of years to dump the older players, replace them with younger guys that may need some time to adjust, and keep the young guys we already have (Buehrle, Jenks, Quentin, Ramirez, Swisher, etc.).

QUOTE (Jake @ Aug 6, 2008 -> 12:47 PM) Nick Masset was a part of the problem, getting rid of him at worst was addition by subtraction. It's also unfair to call Griffey a one-dimensional hitter, seeing as all of his hits have been singles since he has become a Sox. You'll see before long some of that intestinal fortitude that made him a hall of famer. He can't hit for average anymore, can't run too hard or he'll injure himself, and he can't defend. He'll give you the occasional homer. In that sense, he's pretty one-dimensional. I guess you can say two-dimensional, as he can still draw a walk. The guy is a shell of his former self. I refuse to overlook his flaws because he used to be great. And again, to Masset. I wasn't necessarily pointing out the loss of Masset, but the fact that we traded from a weakness (which we should have addressed) to add to the team's current strong point.

QUOTE (YASNY @ Aug 6, 2008 -> 01:42 PM) But we traded pitching for a one-dimensional player. How stupid is that? (think green) Wow, after saying you weren't going to dignify me with a response, you take a shot at me in a completely different thread?

QUOTE (lostfan @ Aug 6, 2008 -> 11:24 AM) Junior is batting .308 for the Sox right now, all singles, albeit only in a handful of games. No reason really to trash him right now. His defense? He literally allowed a triple yesterday because he couldn't bend over. His defense is going to be atrocious. And he offers only the occasional homer.

HOLY s*** WHITE SOX WINNER!!
QUOTE (YASNY @ Aug 6, 2008 -> 11:59 AM) I will not even dignify this with response. I wasn't looking for one. I just felt I should defend the people in the game threads who are discussing the team, however negatively or positively.

QUOTE (YASNY @ Aug 6, 2008 -> 11:50 AM) We have a first place team that was picked to be a fourth place team, and yet we still have oppresive negativity in the game threads. It's unreal. I just cannot understand the way some so-called fans think. Oh, and let me add ... we are in first place and it's now August. I don't even post in the game threads, but I feel I should say this. At least the people in the game threads are posting about the team. It seems that all of your posts are just complaints about the current state of Soxtalk and the majority of posters on it.

I watched the end of this game in bed. I have to admit I was dozing off slightly before the last 2 minutes there.

QUOTE (greg775 @ Aug 6, 2008 -> 03:03 AM) I thought your post was OK til that line Milkman. Cmon you can't be a Masset fan. Nowhere in my post did I say Masset was any good. It's just the fact that we traded from what, at the time, was a weakness for a guy we have 10 clones of already.

QUOTE (bighurt4life @ Aug 5, 2008 -> 10:17 PM) I'm not sure if we really need to "rebuild" as much as we need to get rid of some dead wood. We do have some promising young players to build around both in the field and on the mound but I do think that it's time to start getting younger. How many more seasons can Thome and Dye continue to hit like they have, Konerko has seemingly hit the wall and I'm just not sure what you're going to get on a nightly basis from Contreras and Vasquez. We don't need a total rebuild as much as we need a re-shuffling of a few players/positions Yes, we can deal with having a couple bad seasons to replace the old guys. Not a total rebuild from the ground up, but sacrifice a few seasons for the bigger gain.

QUOTE (Tony82087 @ Aug 5, 2008 -> 10:11 PM) Sound logic. I should have expected that. You know, for a moderator, you take an awful lot of pot shots at people. But of course, you get to say that sort of stuff with no consequences.

QUOTE (Brian @ Aug 5, 2008 -> 10:08 PM) Possibly Thome, Griffey, OC, Crede, Toby They better start benching Thome really soon, then. And they'll want to find a decent replacement for both Cabrera and Crede.

QUOTE (Tony82087 @ Aug 5, 2008 -> 10:05 PM) Lets just play worst case scenario for a second. Lets say this team just continues it's downward spiral, and misses the playoffs. Now this is the absoulte worst thing that can happen right now. If that were to happen, this was a team that was in first place in the month of August. Given that, should Williams really have done a rebuild project as you say everyone else wanted? Save the "Well if the team doesn't win the World Series the season is a failure posts", as thats not what I'm getting at. My math may be off, but I'm pretty sure right now no team in the Central can lead the division for more games than the Sox have this season. Is that really the type of team that needed to be "rebuilt"? On top of it, with what Williams did last off-season, and the contracts that come off the books this off-season, I dont see ANY reason why a "rebuild" process has to happen next year. Yes. I don't give a s*** who was leading the division the longest. If they don't win the division, it's honestly time to think about rebuilding. The old guys are just going to get older, and worse.

Favre to the Jets
QUOTE (StrangeSox @ Aug 5, 2008 -> 08:15 PM) Nah, Vazquez at least has great physical talent but no mental ability. Aside from throwing the ball fairly accurate long, Rex sucks. I mean more in the sense that fans of the respective teams talk up all the talent the guys have, but they both are just s***-bag players.

QUOTE (fathom @ Aug 5, 2008 -> 09:51 PM) How about the fact that it seems like KW had to make a trade to find a replacement for Swisher, who he gave up 3 of his top 5 prospects for? I never want to hear KW talk about not having "$1.00" to make trades. Well, since it was his idea to "go for it" again this year, when everyone else wanted to rebuild, then he should have some consequences if we fail to make the playoffs. We have nothing to build around in the minors.

Top 10 Hotheads
This is horse s***. AJ gets so much unearned garbage thrown his way. The guy is absolutely not a hothead. In fact, he seems to be quite level-headed. You could make a negative list of anything in baseball, and they'd always just put AJ first because people just believe it when they see it. EDIT: Not necessarily first, but he'd be on any of the lists.

QUOTE (fathom @ Aug 5, 2008 -> 09:46 PM) Our defense has been bad enough this season. Griffey Jr. out there just makes it so much worse. DAllen's stat about balls in play for Cincy is crazy. I didn't see that stat. It just feels like we're attempting to kill our chances. A pitching staff that's been getting worse for the last month and a half? Put the worst defense possible in the OF. Make a trade to put your worst offensive player on the bench? Start him anyway! Need pitching more than anything at the deadline? f*** it, trade a reliever for a one-dimensional hitter. Griffey was the last thing this team needed.
