Konerko's quote after the game yesterday
QUOTE(NorthSideSox72 @ Sep 22, 2006 -> 08:33 AM) Apparently... since as was shown earlier, they were the exception to the rule. Other than the $200M Yankees, virtually no one did well the year after a WS championship. I don't think they had a $200 million payroll the years they repeated. It was probably closer to the meager $100 million payroll that the White Sox currently have.

Joey Cora
Good, get the f*** out of here.

Cheers to the Chicago White Sox
How about cheers to the 2005 Chicago White Sox, the team which this year's team lived off of?

Official "Squared Circle" Thread
QUOTE(whitesox91403 @ Sep 20, 2006 -> 01:21 PM) The best heel of all time had to be Ted DiBiase. He had an impressive 10 year run where his "money" ended the 4 year title run of the then unstoppable Hogan machine. He was what everyone hated, a guy who could buy whatever he wanted and did so. It was the perfect gimmick. Then, when he teamed with IRS they smashed poor old Brutus Beefcake's surgically repaired face which prompted the return of Hogan. After he hurt his neck, then he started the Million Dollar Corporation where he again bought stars, even getting some of them to turn like Tatanka and of course, Sapphire who turned on Dusty Rhodes at the time. I'm sure there are a lot of things I'm leaving out but, DiBiase would be my vote for greatest heel of all time. I have to agree. DiBiase was the heel that all other heels should strive to be. Maybe one day Orton will reach that level. QUOTE(LowerCaseRepublican @ Sep 21, 2006 -> 06:46 AM) The Boogeyman won't be coming to get anybody on SmackDown! He's been released from the E because he wasn't making checkups with doctors and the E felt he wasn't giving his all to rehab the injuries. What a stupid ass gimmick, and truly a terrible wrestler. My friends and I made a bet that he wouldn't even be able to put in a 5-minute match at WM, and the under won easily. QUOTE(DBAH0 @ Sep 21, 2006 -> 08:12 AM) And I thought he would have been good as the 3rd member of DX. They better scrub DX soon, or add a couple new members. That s***'s just boring.

Prime reasons why the 2006 White Sox failed to repeat
I'm going to narrow this down and say: Pitching and managing.

And that's a white sox loser....
QUOTE(Jordan4life_2006 @ Sep 21, 2006 -> 12:48 AM) 29-38 That's our record since July 7th. I can't even find anymore words to properly describe how bad this team is. They're really earning that $100 million payroll. It's just unfortunate that we have so many injuries while every other team is so healthy.

It's OVA!
QUOTE(kapkomet @ Sep 20, 2006 -> 11:41 AM) You have to be kidding me... Wow. Obviously, the shoe must fit PERFECTLY. Say what you want, but I only see one side here name calling.

And That's a White Sox Winner!!!
QUOTE(fathom @ Sep 20, 2006 -> 11:04 AM) The more things progress, the more I'm not so sure McCarthy will be on this team next season. I don't even care anymore. They can trade any one of them they'd like to, because none of them have earned being untouchable. I know we all love McCarthy, but you're not making yourself a fixture on the team when you're throwing up a 4.95 ERA. I still think he'll eventually be better than a couple of our current starters, but they can trade him if they want to because he hasn't pulled his weight (which shouldn't be too hard considering he weighs 110 pounds).

Official "Squared Circle" Thread
QUOTE(GaelicSoxFan @ Sep 19, 2006 -> 11:58 PM) That was when they had The Rock, Stone Cold, Foley and Triple H doing most of the heavy lifting. Three are retired and HHH is most likely at the end of his rope. Also, from what I understand, Randy Orton's persona isn't all an act. He is talented, but unless he can control his ego, I'd bet he'll be shown the door when his contract is up. The way I see it, the WWE will have to make a decision soon. Right now, both RAW and SmackDown are hurting for talent. Cena probably won't be wrestling much longer, Edge, Mysterio and Kane aren't exactly spring chickens, and the younger guys like Carlito, Nitro, Chris Masters and Shelton Benjamin are at least another year away from being permanent fixtures in main event matches. Or are just plain garbage.

And That's a White Sox Winner!!!
Well, one of Contreras/Buehrle/Garcia/Garland/Vazquez/McCarthy has to go. Which one is up to KW, and I'll trust him to make the right choice. I wonder what he'll even try to get in return for any of them. And hey, maybe this win was that magical "fuse" we needed to light. Let's just hope it's not another dud, and that Oz E. Coyote doesn't try to play around with it too much and have it blow up in his face.

It's OVA!
QUOTE(kapkomet @ Sep 20, 2006 -> 09:43 AM) Best post of the season. Bar none. Real nice that he got away with calling everyone else sissies, though.

And That's a White Sox Winner!!!
QUOTE(vandy125 @ Sep 20, 2006 -> 10:27 AM) Seeing what he has done at the end of this year makes me want to keep him. He lost his velocity and learned how to pitch. I keep thinking of what he will be able to do with his velocity back and knowing how to pitch, and I like it. To me, it's all dependent on him regaining his velocity. If he really can get it back, I hate to say it, but I'd keep him around with his control and new splitter.

It's OVA!
QUOTE(LosMediasBlancas @ Sep 19, 2006 -> 04:53 PM) (in my best Ditka voice) Hey gang, in life, you take the good with the bad. Learn to handle some adversity without getting emotional or throwing in the towel. Funny that you mentioned an overrated coach for a team that won one championship when they should've had a few more.

And That's A White Sox Season
QUOTE(kapkomet @ Sep 18, 2006 -> 10:36 AM) You're being too harsh... Cora doesn't make a difference in a game save about three times this season. That's not true. He has repeatedly cost the Sox runs. I may overreact to things, but I am dead serious about this one. Joey Cora should be fired. He, in no way, has earned his job.
-
And That's A White Sox Season
There's no way Ozzie ISN'T managing the Sox next year. I just hope maybe at least Cora isn't here anymore. That man has truly done nothing to earn having a secure job. In fact, he's more than earned his walking papers.

White Sox are Done
QUOTE(greg775 @ Sep 17, 2006 -> 03:39 PM) How can anybody complain at all about Jermaine Dye? What a season! You know Sox fans are spoiled when there are any complaints about that guy. There are no perfect ballplayers. If we had Ryan Howard we'd probably have some complain after he popped up in the clutch. Because people have the ability to think in a complex manner. This means that Jermaine Dye can be an offensive powerhouse, but also a defensive liability at times. If I were a six-year-old child, I could see how thinking his offensive numbers meant that he was the greatest all-around player in the history of the team.

White Sox are Done
QUOTE(SEALgep @ Sep 16, 2006 -> 10:13 PM) Dye is an excellent defensive right fielder. I'd sooner but Sweeney in left, than Dye as DH. That's just wrong. Dye is a slightly above-average RF right now, at best. QUOTE(Hangar18 @ Sep 18, 2006 -> 09:49 AM) This season for the White Sox was so darned important, for a bunch of reasons, the most notable being the SOX being able to capitalize on having the cities baseball attention, which if anyone noticed, all melted away 2 weeks ago when the Bears started playing. Making the playoffs again, would give the SOX as good a chance as anyone to make an unprecedented (in this town) 2nd World Series appearance. Disgusting the way this team folded like a cheap card table in Oakland this weekend. And Karma certainly got Kenny Williams this weekend didnt it? Who here didnt smile every time Frank Thomas just Jammed It to the SOX this weekend, playing like an MVP and leading his new team ............ bittersweet to say the least. I love Frank Thomas. God, shut up. Kenny Williams did more to bring a championship to the city of Chicago than any other one person.

Jim Thome
Has any player in baseball fallen off more in the second half of the season than Jim Thome? He's paid to hit homers (that's all he swings for, at least) and he's done very little of that this half.
-
And That's A White Sox Season
I can honestly say that this year wasn't even fun to watch. Even in other years (losing years, in fact), they were at least still enjoyable to watch. This year was just one kick in the junk after another.

The Newest, Fattest Tiger
Enjoy the playoffs, Matt. You probably don't remember those.
-
And that's a white sox loser
The most disappointing season in at least a decade, no?
-
White Sox are Done
It really is over. They're still playing at the same level they've been playing at since the end of June. They're just not going to put it together. They simply won't make the playoffs.

Official "Squared Circle" Thread
I went to the Smackdown/ECW taping on Tuesday. I really, really, really wish I hadn't. It was the steamiest, messiest pile of s*** I have ever seen. There were no redeeming aspects of it at all.

AND THIS BALL GAME IS OVA!!!
Wow, what a surprise to come home to. Amazing.
