  1. QUOTE(JimH @ Jul 20, 2006 -> 04:53 PM) Keith made a great post in the other thread about Torrealba. Who knows if he's available. I would suspect Zaun might be, and possibly Blanco. If there's a way to improve the defense, they should do it. Blanco can certainly do that re: the running game. But again who knows if he's available. Logic says yes, but then again we're talking about dealing with the Cubs which is always a unique situation. I don't know much about Torrealba. Zaun might be nice (sure they wouldn't give us Molina?).
  2. We've already heard Blanco, but are there any other catchers out there that could be had? Sandy Alomar, Jr.? I figured I should start this thread because just stating that Widger has a BA of .184, a CERA of 5.50, or that he cannot throw a runner out isn't good enough for some posters. I won't name names. So, let's try to figure out who is actually available. We are at about a .400something winning percentage when he catches. Even though he's only the back up, we can't allow him to drag the team down so badly. Every game counts when you're down 5 1/2 games.
  3. QUOTE(Jordan4life_2006 @ Jul 20, 2006 -> 04:30 PM) Don't forget about how worthless Scott Podsednik is, and how he's done nothing for this team in the year and a half he's been here. We claim he's done nothing this year because he doesn't steal or do anything well. He was clearly a better base stealer last year, and was the spark to the offense. He also played decent defense last year.
  4. QUOTE(jackie hayes @ Jul 20, 2006 -> 04:23 PM) Someone makes a whole goodbye thread crying about how he can't bear to see another negative post -- and it's everyone else that's "that damn emotional"? Lol. Haha, exactly what I was thinking.
  5. I think it's time to create a new rally thing. The Rally Crede doesn't seem to be working anymore. Honestly.
  6. QUOTE(kapkomet @ Jul 20, 2006 -> 04:09 PM) We blame YOU. Wow. Have fun, people. Is he not blaming the pessimistic attitude for his departure?
  7. The Sox lose, people get pissed off, and then they blame the pessimists. It's not our fault the Sox are playing the way they are.
  8. I think the team just believes it's better than everyone else, but doesn't feel like it has to prove it.
  9. QUOTE(The Ginger Kid @ Jul 20, 2006 -> 03:00 PM) big series for the Tigers and they stepped up. What can you say? I can say that it's now obvious to me that the Tigers, Red Sox, and Yankees are each better than the White Sox. No heart. spiff, they didn't even show any effort.
  10. I want to apologize to Widger on behalf of the entire Soxtalk nation. We unjustly made him our whipping boy. If it weren't for a few rough spots here and there (and not due AT ALL to an entire season of awful play), we would have never been on his case. He's a good player and he brings a lot to the table. I'm certainly glad he's on this team.
  11. Our record with all the starters is insane, is it not? Why doesn't Ozzie have all the regulars for like 3 straight games, and then throw a garbage lineup together? Why does he insist on throwing away meaningful games?
  12. Well, Ozzie threw this series away. You can't have scrubs start 2/3 of the games. This series is meaningful, he admitted himself AND HE STILL PUT spiffTY LINEUPS TOGETHER!
  13. Ha, a useless, slow catcher trying to bunt.
  14. Offense is going to fish Jose. He had to be perfect to win this one. Pudge is a good hitter, even without the steroids.
  15. I gotta say, we're taking the perfect offensive approach today. I hope Contreras doesn't like run support.
  16. Is this the guy whose career was ended by Pete Rose in the ASG?
  17. If I'm going to give Widger spiff, then I better give it to Ozuna, too. He's been terrible since he injured himself.
  18. Someone please, give me a reason that Chris Widger is on this team.
  19. Looks like they wanna get back to Chicago as fast as they can.
  20. Nice snag by Contreras there. Let's try to see more than 6 pitches this inning, eh?
  21. QUOTE(JimH @ Jul 20, 2006 -> 12:10 PM) So every time Contreras makes a mistake today it's Widger's fault right? Just wanted to toe the party line here in the game thread. Or, you know, whoever isn't perfect. Got it. Nope, just the ones that are grossly underachieving.
  22. QUOTE(JimH @ Jul 20, 2006 -> 12:06 PM) Ummm, no, Podsednik doesn't do much for me vs. Rogers, I think Ozuna has a better chance because his swing is shorter. We'll see what happens with Widger, I realize he is SoxTalk's current whipping boy and it is what it is, so not much sense discussing it. Personally I wanted to see Pierzynski in there today primarily because he's been so awful at the plate this series and he's so competitive that I feel he'd make something happen. Along with Garcia, Vazquez, Buehrle, and Pods. Or, you know, the guys who aren't doing their jobs. QUOTE(winninguglyin83 @ Jul 20, 2006 -> 12:05 PM) in defense of ozzie, AJ can't play 140 games. his bat looked slow last night as he grounded out to second softly several times. unless they bring Stewart up from Charlotte (highly unlikely), we're going to have to live with Widgie once a week. Once a series. It's not just once a week, which wouldn't be as bad.
  23. QUOTE(Kalapse @ Jul 20, 2006 -> 11:48 AM) That's pretty much my dream scenerio, if that were to go down I'd feel so much better about this team's chances down the stretch and in the playoffs. Oh yeah, that scenario is good that it's completely sure not to happen. That's the bad part. Nothing ever comes together that perfectly.
