QUOTE(southsideirish @ Jul 28, 2005 -> 04:07 PM) Could that be something that is holding this whole thing up? No. The Marlins are not going to trade withing their own division and risk helping an opponent while they still have a small chance of making the playoffs.

QUOTE(Kalapse @ Jul 28, 2005 -> 04:06 PM) Damaso Marte is signed through next season for 2.5M and he has a team option for both '07 and '08 each worth 3M. So he's protected through the next 3 seasons. I knew it was for a while, just didn't know exactly how many years. At this point, I just want someone in baseball to make a fairly big trade, just so it'll get the ball rolling. I can't remember this time of year ever being so dead.
-
QUOTE(southsideirish @ Jul 28, 2005 -> 04:01 PM) I am not completely understanding this. If this is what was happening then why would the Marlins want Marte? Why wouldn't they trade Burnett straight up to Philadelphia for Wagner right now. Why is a middle man needed? Because they don't want to help each other out? If I am the Marlins I would rather have Wagner than Marte and McCarthy if I am trying to compete for this year and they keep saying they are. I just don't get it. Wagner = FA at the end of season. Marte = signed for God knows how long. Marlins = no money to resign Wagner if they traded within their own division to get him, which they wouldn't.

QUOTE(SoxFan1 @ Jul 28, 2005 -> 03:45 PM) Score just said Cubs radio crew 13th of 16 in the NL.

Does Phil Rogers get paid for saying that s***? I could seriously double or triple the amount of rumors he talked about.
-
That was worthless. Whodda thunk it?
-
Is this guy going somewhere with this Braves s***? Who f***ing cares about what the Braves are doing?

QUOTE(AddisonStSox @ Jul 28, 2005 -> 02:44 PM) Comes as no suprise. They're simply the best. Congrats! No doubt that they're better than all the rest.

QUOTE(JUGGERNAUT @ Jul 28, 2005 -> 03:06 PM) These rumors come out of BOS that CLE is going to become a seller & offer Wickman & Howry. That makes no sense! They are just 2.5 gb Minny in the WC race & playing as good as Minny right now. Minny is clearly a buyer so how does CLE justify selling to their fans? The most likely contenders in the AL turning sellers are TEX & BAL. DET is playing better ball than both of them so I don't see them selling. In the NL the most likely contenders to turn sellers are WAS & PHI. MIL is playing better than both of them so I don't see them selling. Wagner is easily the most coveted talent of the 4 teams so all eyes are on PHI. Of course the bottom 6 are charging insane prices trying to create an expensive trade market. That's having a dominoe effect on the 4 above. You have to believe that price is going to drop quickly as the clock continues to click towards the clearance hour. 1.) I'll be pissed if Wickman goes to Boston. 2.) I don't think Washington will sell, they did too much the first half to justify at least trying to buy. 3.) I also doubt Philadelphia will sell. They might look for a trade to help them now, while getting rid of a key piece (Wagner for Burnett), but that's it.

Ha, anyone wanna bet he tells us absolutely nothing new, and that the few things he says will be vague with no real hard evidence that a trade will happen soon?

QUOTE(southsider2k5 @ Jul 28, 2005 -> 02:53 PM) Another thread down the toilet. Thanks guys. I don't see what's wrong with having an argument about how good a player is? That is, unless you're referring to the name-calling. I understand that part. There's no trades or new trade rumors/talks, so this is something to occupy the time.

QUOTE(daa84 @ Jul 28, 2005 -> 02:45 PM) *moves to the barry bonds body armor/best player ever?/carleverettstandsontopofhteplatewithoutarmortoo thread Sure, let's talk about the non-existant trades going down as we speak.

QUOTE(RockRaines @ Jul 28, 2005 -> 02:43 PM) You will never know if thats true, becuase we dont know the effects, how many other players did them, and what he could of done without them. He was always a stud, and has shown it throughout his career. The guy is the best I've ever seen. The argument about armor is ridiculous, hit him in the face and legs and he will f***ing move. Blaming that s*** on armor and getting hit is unbelieveably close minded and is a huge stretch. Biggio has stepped into many inside pitches, and he doesnt hit like bonds does. Of course the armor thing is ridiculous. You'll have your opinion that he was the greatest, and I'll have mine that he was one of the greatest. I think we can both agree that he used some form of steroid (other than "accidentally" applying the cream a few times) during his career, right?
-
QUOTE(RockRaines @ Jul 28, 2005 -> 02:35 PM) Bonds is probably the greatest player ever, bar none. Even before he was suspected of juicing, he was a force in the batters box and on the basepaths, not to mention in the field. The guy has accomplished more in his career than almost anyone else. This argument is pointless. Before steroids, he was one of the greatest. With steroids, he is the greatest.
-
QUOTE(Finkelstein @ Jul 28, 2005 -> 02:27 PM) Bottom line is Bonds hits HR's because he is f***ing GOOD and on STEROIDS, not because of the armor. But I do think that the armor gives hitters an unfair advantage over the pitchers.

QUOTE(White Sox Josh @ Jul 28, 2005 -> 02:11 PM) i would cheer Koch to be honest. He seemed like a great guy. He always took responsibility if he blew the game and he never blamed anybody else for his struggles. I don't think anybody in a major league city will ever get a chance to boo or cheer Koch ever again, so you might as well forget about how you'd react to him.
-
QUOTE(southsideirish @ Jul 28, 2005 -> 02:16 PM) OK, it allows him to stand as close to the plate as he wants. If an inside pitch comes in it deson't bother him. He doesn't care about getting knocked off the plate, he will just put that big pad up to protect himself. Since a pitcher can't throw inside he is able to cover the whole plate, which is why his batting average, walk total, and on-base percentage is so high as well as his home run total. Bonds is on steroids, case closed.

QUOTE(LosMediasBlancas @ Jul 28, 2005 -> 01:58 PM) Because the Arroyo deal is dead?? I thought the Marlins said they didn't want Arroyo. So, why would they want Maroth if they didn't want Arroyo.
-
Ehh, I'd rather trade him.
-
QUOTE(LosMediasBlancas @ Jul 28, 2005 -> 01:01 PM) what's this Burnett for Maroth rumor flying now? Anyone? Why would the Marlins want Maroth instead of Arroyo?

A hardcore White Sox fan is walking down the beach and finds a lamp. He rubs it and a genie appears. The genie says he'll give him 3 wishes, but for everything he gets, another person on the beach who is a Cub fan will get twice that. The man's first wish is that he would get $100 million. He gets it, but the Cub fan gets $200 million. The man's second wish is that he'll become huge and muscular. He becomes ripped, but the Cub fan is twice as big. The man thinks for a second, then he gets a great idea. "For my final wish," the man says, "I want to get beaten half to death."

QUOTE(ptatc @ Jul 28, 2005 -> 12:32 PM) I know it's not tested for because they don't do blood testing. I don't know if it's mentioned in the policy or not. But without testing it really doesn't matter. I don't think they could mention it in the policy if they won't test for it. This policy is really weak, and is pretty much just a way to pretend they're doing something.
-
QUOTE(ptatc @ Jul 28, 2005 -> 12:25 PM) There may be a few takers for Bonds. But with the uncertainty about the steriods and the knee, I think it will scare most off. Did you know that the surgreon he went to has had his medical license revoked for un ethical practice before? He goes to this guy because he will do what he wants. Many teams are leary of this. Haha, yeah. I remember that story. He's pretty much the worst person I've ever heard of that didn't actually kill anyone. He's a selfish, cheating, self-involved racist. Still, a few teams will take him and his enormous salary while giving up a bunch of talent. You just know somebody will, but I wish they wouldn't.
-
QUOTE(ptatc @ Jul 28, 2005 -> 12:14 PM) that's true. Especially if they use HGH which can only be detected with blood samples. However, most steriod users get comfortable with what they are using and it takes them awhile to get used to new ones. Maybe that's why he is taking the time off? Anyway I wouldn't take my chances on a player that needs to find new steriods to keep performing. Oh, I don't want him. Let me make that one clear. I despise Barry Bonds, and if you ever met any of my friends, you'd know how much I hate steroids and anyone involved with them. You're a doctor, right? You certainly know more about steroids than I do, but I read from a few sources that the guys with the money can stay ahead of the testing because new kinds of steroids are made basically every week. One guy I like to read about is Charles Yesalis. He's an expert in steroids at, I think, Penn State. He seems as cynical as me, which is hard to be HGH is a huge problem and it's laughable that it was left out of the new policy.
