A's at White Sox 7/9 Gameday Thread
Milkman delivers replied to AddisonStSox's topic in 2005 Season in Review
QUOTE(Rowand44 @ Jul 9, 2005 -> 07:44 PM) Oye ve. One guy claims aaron is juicing, now everyone believes it. This is no shot at you fathom but just because he said that doesn't mean aaron was a roid user. Not everyone is just jumping on the idea because fathom mentioned it. I'm sure a lot of us have figured he was juicing for a while, but Gof forbid we say it because half the posters here would have your head. -

Rowand should take his chances and go back on the juice, because he sucks without them. -

QUOTE(Brian @ Jul 9, 2005 -> 07:30 PM) When we swing at the first pitch, other people b****. Can't please everyone I guess. You have to change your approach against different pitchers. Big leaguers should know that. It's not a blanket theory. -

QUOTE(fathom @ Jul 9, 2005 -> 07:28 PM) Twins up 5-4, about to score more runs. My big fear is giving them momentum heading into the ASB. A double digit lead going into the ASB would have been huge from a psyche standpoint. I thought your big fear was having the Twins, Cubs, and Indians win this weekend while we get swept? -

QUOTE(Rowand44 @ Jul 9, 2005 -> 07:25 PM) qwerty, I'm directing this at you since you seem to know where to get every stat imaginable?? Wanna look for a stat for how many times teams have been shut out this season?? I'm interested to see where the Sox rank on that because I'd bet it'd be pretty good. If my memory is correct the sox have been shut out twice this season and I know the Cards have been shut out 5 times this season. Also check for how many times a team gets 3 hits or less. -

This is a God damn joke. What is Zito's pitch count? I doubt it's even in the 60's. -

QUOTE(fathom @ Jul 9, 2005 -> 07:15 PM) Rowand has nowhere near the power he had last year, his bat speed is down, his throwing arm has really deteriorated, and he seems slower running now than he did a few years ago. Like I said earlier, I really do like Rowand. However, I think last year might have been his peak year. The thing that bothers me is that Rowand and Thomas are supposed to work out together a lot, right? I'm not insinuating that Thomas was/is on the juice, but wouldn't he notice when Aaron was sticking a needle into his ass? -

I'm glad we got our 1 hit in the first inning. When these kinds of games come around where we're lucky to get 2 or 3 hits, I'm always worried we'll get no-hit through the first 5 or 6 innings. I don't have to worry about that tonight. -

Ha, this is how it works. If it was the Sox that dropped that pop up, the A's would hit a 3-run homer on the next pitch and there wouldn't even be anyone on base. That's how it works against these guys. -

QUOTE(qwerty @ Jul 9, 2005 -> 06:48 PM) How many times have you seen maddux throw the ball into center? True, but it's probably easier to keep your cool in a situation where Mark threw the ball away when you know you can just throw the ball a foot off the plate and know it'll be called a strike. -

I pray to God that the Angels and Rangers don't fall apart because we wouldn't win a game against Oakland in the playoffs. Not one. -

QUOTE(fathom @ Jul 9, 2005 -> 06:40 PM) Would it surprise you? His numbers are really down this year, and this info was relayed to me by the father of a Sox minor leaguer who gave plenty of details about it. People will probably just use the "gym rat" explanation, which is really no explanation at all. -

QUOTE(Dick Allen @ Jul 9, 2005 -> 06:35 PM) Rowand only has 2 extra base hits since June 8th. Was June 8th the day he said he was changing his swing a little? "Gee, I'm hitting for a pretty good average, but I don't have many homers. I best change that!" -

God.Damn.It. I hope the A's die, I really do. Buehlre should never pitch against these guys because he just s***s his pants every single time. That's my rant for today. -
Bobby Jenks to be on the Score

QUOTE(SoxFan1 @ Jul 9, 2005 -> 04:45 PM) Turnbow has turned into a successful closer in Milwaukee and Jenks has done well since leaving Anaheim. I dunno, it's probably just a coincidence but both can throw close to 100 and you dont just give up arms like that. I don't trust Turnbow for a second. Every time I've seen him pitch, it looks like he's gonna blow it and then somehow gets the job done. Granted I've only seen him about 4 or 5 times, and I realize that's a small amount to judge him on, but I can't help but get the words "Dan Kolb" out of my head. -
QUOTE(jackie hayes @ Jul 9, 2005 -> 03:55 PM) So it's guaranteed that he would have moved Pods over safely twice? Despite his recent appetite for strikeouts? No, but he certainly wouldn't have messed up as many times as Harris did. Willie f***ed up like 3 or 4 times.
-
QUOTE(Balta1701 @ Jul 9, 2005 -> 03:47 PM) I don't know where to find this stat to check, but I'm pretty sure that Hawk/DJ said during the game on Wednesday that Gooch was leading the league in productive outs. Even with his decline in average recently, he'd probably still be batting .300 if he was a selfish hitter. Someone else said that before, and I believe it. The guy is all about fundamentals.

QUOTE(SoxFan1 @ Jul 9, 2005 -> 03:43 PM) Mermaid....see the tail under the sign sticking out? Oh, ok. I didn't notice it until you pointed it out. -
QUOTE(jackie hayes @ Jul 9, 2005 -> 03:33 PM) But from the reaction here, I'd guess that everyone is perfectly consistent except Willie. After all, we've been told that it's guaranteed the Sox would have won the game w/ Iguchi playing. B/c he's never, ever failed to execute, I suppose. Kind of like his flawless fielding to start the year. I understand your point, but Iguchi definitely wouldn't have f***ed up so many times. Nobody can prove it, but everyone knows it's true.
