QUOTE (RockRaines @ Oct 17, 2013 -> 11:01 PM) Actually helps us in the market IMO. Keep an eye on high-contact scrappy players, I know it sucks but I think mgmt thinks they have the power at this point. Shoppach/AJP/Torrealba/Buck/Blanco, and lesser extent Suzuki(he's got an option) for a starting list
-
QUOTE (RockRaines @ Oct 17, 2013 -> 10:48 PM) Well. Who in the lineup truly has that veteran "yes he will produce" feeling for you? I have nobody. Ventura? Oh wait... Hrmmm well, I can't see that the chips we have, outside of pitching would net us much in the way of an impact MI, so maybe FA?
-
QUOTE (RockRaines @ Oct 17, 2013 -> 10:52 PM) Maybe. Beckham hit his ceiling this last season IMO. I think his year was hampered by his wrist injury. I'd like to see him a bit more, I think.

QUOTE (RockRaines @ Oct 17, 2013 -> 10:43 PM) Infield depth isnt a concern, I think its impact MI. Every year one of ours is a hole in the lineup or defensively. Our rotation also could be a bit diferent on opening day. Though, I wonder if this impact MI is someone sox figure is in the system already (Semien, etc) or is someone like that just bait? different than when, end of 13? I sure hope so!

QUOTE (hi8is @ Oct 17, 2013 -> 10:42 PM) BOOM GOES THE DYNOMITE!!! Heh, someobdy's late to the party lol

QUOTE (RockRaines @ Oct 17, 2013 -> 10:34 PM) Watch. It will be close. If granderson gets close to this it will be a desperate move by somebody
-
QUOTE (RockRaines @ Oct 17, 2013 -> 10:31 PM) For the naysayers: would you rather pay this money to Granderson or Abreu? Think of the next several years. Granderson can go somewhere else!
-
QUOTE (RockRaines @ Oct 17, 2013 -> 10:25 PM) If you PM me I'll put you on the nugget list. I try to keep stuff off the board to protect some info. Sign Pierzynski to mentor Phegley

QUOTE (chw42 @ Oct 17, 2013 -> 10:23 PM) I think having Alexei and Viciedo on the team had a lot to do with getting him. Hopefully, he turns out to be as good, if not better, than Cespedes and Puig. It's been a few years, but Those also started with Contreras... we're not the worst place for Cuban players, for sure.

QUOTE (bbilek1 @ Oct 17, 2013 -> 10:12 PM) I think the biggest hurdle of the offseason has been completed and we haven't even reached the offseason yet. It's been the sox offseason for awhile now...
-
QUOTE (Marty34 @ Oct 17, 2013 -> 07:39 PM) A gamble they had to take. I hope he can hit a fastball. I more hope he can hit a curve or slider... fastballs are the least of my worries there.
-
QUOTE (Baron @ Oct 17, 2013 -> 06:14 PM) Yep....many speculated a few pages earlier that this would be the case. I wouldn't guarantee that it doesn't get announced after the NLCS and ALCS, before the Series... they've done that in the past few years, too
-
QUOTE (bbilek1 @ Sep 30, 2013 -> 04:45 PM) Beckham has been mediocre for four straight years now. It's time to move on if a guy like Semien is waiting right behind him. Put Semien at 2B, improve C, 1B, 3B. CF and get a LH set up man. Joe Crede says hello

One of the pitchers was ranked #3 for 2011, but not for 12

QUOTE (fathom @ Dec 31, 2011 -> 02:06 PM) So who's the 4th outfielder now? Danks2
-
QUOTE (iamshack @ Oct 11, 2011 -> 12:30 PM) It may actually be worse for someone who was an outstanding hitter to be a coach, because sometimes when you are supremely talented you simply don't have to do a whole lot other than get out of your own way in order to succeed. When such a person becomes a coach of others, it is often difficult for them to understand why this isn't the case for them as well. This is why Frank may not be the best choice for a hitting coach

Is Carlos Quentin going to be on this team in 2012?
toasty replied to sunofgold's topic in Pale Hose Talk
If there's a market for TCQ while he's quasi healthy, he needs to go. He's too much made of glass -
QUOTE (sunofgold @ Oct 8, 2011 -> 05:13 PM) Sorry but I don't understand this. Isn't any hitting coach going to have his own hitting style? Not necessarily. Walt Hriniak's style is unique. Most others I see work with varying styles, more based on the players
-
QUOTE (Athomeboy_2000 @ Oct 7, 2011 -> 12:03 PM) that is correct. And I believe that Rogey is also a Sox employee when he does Pre and Post I dont recall that, but seems reasonable. I'm not so sure. TV announcers, yes, they are sox employees. I don't believe the radio guys are. I recall when the score took over in 2006, there was discussions on Rooney leaving because WSCR didnt want to pay his high salary
-
Last I checked, radio personalities were employees of WSCR.... would they really want to bring on North?

QUOTE (Dick Allen @ Sep 30, 2011 -> 05:51 PM) "We met this morning to look back on the 2011 season and to consider the future of the Boston Red Sox, including my involvement with the club," Francona said in a statement released by the club. "I passed along my frustrations at my inability to effectively reach the players. After many conversations and much consideration, I ultimately felt that, out of respect to this team, it was time for me to move on." He admits he can't reach the players. The Sox have a couple of very pricey veterans who need to be "reached". You can cross Francona off the list. He admitted he could no longer reach the players in THAT clubhouse... there is a difference there.

The one point that I haven't seen anybody make is that the exact course that the team takes for next year and beyond is going to depend on what manager is chosen- especially if KW was being truthful that this will be a "quick" process. If the team decides that Tito or LaRussa is a better organizational/philosiphical fit, they will likely build the team differently than if Alomar or Martinez are chosen. I still keep seeing multiple places saying that LaRussa doesn't want to manage under KW

QUOTE (VictoryMC98 @ Sep 27, 2011 -> 09:37 PM) I think they move either way, IMO.. I see them trying to get to around 80 Million 80? haha. not likely http://www.mlbtraderumors.com/2011/09/white-sox-rumors-.html
