  1. meh. trade tome konerko to DH, put crede @ 1b fields @ 3rd
  2. the people that suspect we could have gotten more for Jon may forget that if his shoulder 'knot' doesnt straighten out, he could be worse off, and not worth as much at the trade deadline, if he doesnt have a good 1st half.
  3. i find it so funny that so many of you are bashing hall, after all of the hoopla and excitement after signing him last year.
  4. he doesnt want to go back to catcher.
  5. QUOTE(Palehosefan @ Dec 8, 2007 -> 05:54 PM) I would take Olivo over AJ any day of the week. Similar power numbers, great defense, shuts down the running game, and similar game calling ability. you can have him, the sox dont want his sorry arse. his game calling ability and handling of pitchers ( or lack thereof ) is why the sox traded him in the first place. if he were any good, he wouldnt have been on 3 teams since he left us
  6. QUOTE(forrestg @ Dec 7, 2007 -> 07:40 PM) I'd say to go along with the name they are losing. How about Thome, Uribe and a pitcher Floyd and some cash for Roberts and Bedard. We can use Dye at DH trade paulie for Conor Jackson and we then have speed on the basepaths I wish people would quit saying that trading Konerko is an option. Unless he is injured and production tanks, Konerko is here till he either A ) he dies B ) he retires, or C ) refuses to sign a new contract when current one is up. He's the captain, folks. like it or not.
  7. is this the rowand thread or the roberts man-love thread?????
  8. for the sox really having ZERO chance of landing m-cab, everybody is sure tore up about it.
  9. newspaper reports say that the o's were interested in crede... but have 3B Mora signed thru 09....
  10. QUOTE(Gregory Pratt @ Dec 6, 2007 -> 12:54 PM) That probably just says that Rowand's clumsy. who's gonna hurt themselves running and banging into a baggy wall?
  11. i'd more assume rowand to continue with a good year this year, rather than jones returning to his usual form after last year. that being the case, i wouldnt have liked the sox to give him that contract. 2 years and he walks, and we are no better off in the farm to replace him in 2 years. at least with rowand, and a 4/5 yr deal, we can develop a real replacement for him, not owens/anderson/etc (not sweeny in CF)
  12. if the sox pulled the 4 year deal off the table, and replaced with a 3 year, rowand will walk from that. that's a ludicrous thing to do. Jones got a 2 year deal to prove himself after a down year. rowand didnt have that same down year.
  13. i dont see missing out on m-cabrera as that big of a suprise to KW, so i cant think he was making plans around a guaranteed trade (nor do i believe that he could have/would have given m-cab's name to Dye in the middle of the season) -- i think it had to be more of a "hey! look! let's see if we can pull one over on the marlins!" when in reality, KW knew there was no way to compete with other offers. I think that's one of the reasons he has said they plan to focus on FA signings. That being said, the rumor mill made the sox's chances of landing m-cab much larger than they actually were. (i picture this mind-picture: the sox's offseason is like KW going down a hiking trail, and the m-cab deal was like him all of the sudden chasing a butterfly off the normal path.... now the butterfly has been captured by another hiker, and KW returns to the hiking trail)
  14. QUOTE(Texsox @ Nov 21, 2007 -> 02:01 PM) The end result would be the same, so why give him the money sooner? A career ending injury could occur. I think you are right, it is the correct way to analyze the contract, he seems by year four everyone is overpaid by performance or underpaid by what other guys who have signed new contracts are getting. Would any hometown discount be the Rangers, the Twins, or Pine Bluff AR? i wonder, if it would entice him more to build in escalators based on playing performance or lack of DL stints to add a 6th year. obviously it would have to be a good escalator clause so we dont get hosed, but if it's right, i dont see a problem with it.
  15. QUOTE(Tony82087 @ Nov 19, 2007 -> 04:29 PM) Not that it matters, but Levine said he was positive Konerko was going to be dealt. but to who? i would have figured the angels, but we just completed a deal with them. to the dodgers, then?? eh, dunno.
  16. QUOTE(elrockinMT @ Nov 19, 2007 -> 04:29 PM) With "anoher deal imminent," being reported and Uribe possibly being shopped what are we going to see? I see us opening more holes, but Hunter in CF would be nice, but I like A-Row also. Uribe would be a real good super sub, but at $4.5M that probably won't happen. I don't see him as a 2B option either and it doesn't sound like KW does either and that's what counts obviously. Richar seems to be the leading candidate to stay at 2B. I see Crede or Fields as possible trade chips and we need help in the bullpen. Could that come from Japan? The move for Cabrera opens up more questions. I don't have a problem with Cabrera, but wish it was Contreras was the one that went in the deal and not Jon. Is Contreras still a trade option for the Sox? from what quote i saw from a-row, i dont think he's going to end up here. maybe it's just the way he was quoted, but he was quoted as basically saying, yeah, i talked to kenny. no comment.
  17. QUOTE(103 mph screwball @ Oct 31, 2007 -> 07:45 PM) This kid is going to make some other team's fans very happy. I agree. He has been jerked around here. BA was the 'on the rebound' CF after rowand... expectations were too high on him. not surprising he's been left out to dry
  18. i dont neccessarily like the return for mack, but we have too friggen many super-sub utility types on this team it's good to get one gone
  19. are we not expecting ozuna to come back healty next year? he's cheaper than mack, and no worse in the field
  20. QUOTE(daa84 @ Jul 31, 2007 -> 01:25 PM) just heard on the radio (espn1000) during the eric kasilias (sp?) and screamin a smith show (two of my least favorite people) that reports out of CHICAGO were that dye for manny delcarmen was close....dont know what that means.. but it makes sense if the bosox get gagne...also the red sox traded piniero, so they have another spot for an arm in the pen its quite likely they are referencing the suntimes article that seems to have been written with information from monday morning before boston said no to delcarmen and willymo for dye
  21. QUOTE(Al Lopez's Ghost @ Jul 31, 2007 -> 05:35 AM) From today's Sun-Times: http://www.suntimes.com/sports/baseball/wh...trade31.article this is old news already... seems to be the same info that was posted yesterday afternoon, before boston said they wouldnt give up delcarmen
  22. QUOTE(southsideirish71 @ Jul 30, 2007 -> 04:14 PM) FYI This would say a move is coming. nah, the o's just think they fleeced everybody 'cuz he is the long-lost- molina brother!
  23. QUOTE(The Ginger Kid @ Jul 30, 2007 -> 04:24 PM) by what time tomorrow do trades have to be submitted to the commissioner's office? the trades need to be submitted by the deadline (2 central, 3 eastern) but not neccessarly signed/completed
  24. hmmm... wonder how many games he'll get at SS this year.... if he can play ss, i'd be in favor of moving him over and bringing back gooch......
  25. the braves are not going to give up salty for a jenks. no way.
