The hi8is Expret Trade Assessment
We should sign Sizemore to a 10 year contract. It isn't often that true middle of the order hitters are laying around and every other MLB team won't touch them.

Tigers interested in Reed?
QUOTE (GreenSox @ Jul 21, 2013 -> 06:22 PM) Dude Boston made the playoffs the next year....and in 99 and in 2003. It was 7 years before they won a WS. We had to get a new GM before we won one of those. As your goal here is apparently to stick a thumb in my eye and say "na na na na na" I'll give you some ammo: you could point out the closer on Boston's 2004 WS team was none other than Keith Foulke. Otherwise, I don't know what your point is. I was wondering what your point was as well, bringing up 16 year old trades made 2 GMs ago as if it actually relevant to the current team. I get it, you don't like the front office, but your ability to connect the dots in multiple discussions absolutely sucks.

Tigers interested in Reed?
QUOTE (Dick Allen @ Jul 21, 2013 -> 04:59 PM) Keith Foulke had a really nice career, and Howry was great until he got hurt. Caruso was a moron, but he had some ability, and Barcelo was supposed to be the gem of that trade, but he got hurt. True story, he was complaining about a lot of pain and KW called him a p****. It turns out he needed both shoulder and elbow surgery. And Howry and Foulke were key parts of the 2000 team, but we can't mention that. We have to talk about how the Red Sox waited 7 years instead of 3 years for that trade to work out for them .

Tigers interested in Reed?
QUOTE (GreenSox @ Jul 21, 2013 -> 04:35 PM) Then you weren't listening or watching. And then you could check out Slocumb's stats from 1997, including his 1.90 WHIP and ERA near 6 and his 17 saves, and then check out Roberto Hernandez and his 27 saves, and tell me who was the better closer and that Seattle wouldn't have taken Roberto in a heartbeat...without even considering the 2 other pitchers the Sox threw in. And the reason I'm bringing this up now is that in this thread, some said we don't want to trade with the Tigers. Just pointing out a specific instance where that philosophy was extremely costly. Ah, of course, I wasn't listening or watching, silly me. Here I am thinking that the needs of the respective teams involved are what was considered. So, since you were in the room when the Sox declined Varitek and Lowe for Hernandez, Darwin and Alvarez, did Schueler specifically say "nope, we don't deal with AL teams" and hang up the phone? I bet the Tigers will never deal with the Braves again after the results of the Smoltz trade 22 years ago.

Tigers interested in Reed?
QUOTE (GreenSox @ Jul 21, 2013 -> 03:46 PM) I don't care if it was 160 years ago - it's a bad philosophy. And that is precisely why we dealt with the Giants then instead of stealing from the desperate Mariners. If you have to deal with Detroit, deal with Detroit. Yea, we'll have to look at Reed for a while...they'll have to look at Castellanos. And while I never heard Williams say he wouldn't sell to the AL or to our division, he rarely did and only once to a contender as I recall (Durham to Oakland). The other time was E Jax to non-contender Toronto. But he rarely sold in July anyway, so that may not mean much. Of course it is a bad philosophy, that is why nobody has it, including the white sox. Its funny that you put this "we wouldnt deal with the desperate mariners" onus on the White Sox 16 years after the fact, because I never heard anything of the sort. Ever. Please prove me wrong, I would love to read anything that proves this little tinfoil hat theory. Armchair GMs are fun.

Tigers interested in Reed?
QUOTE (GreenSox @ Jul 21, 2013 -> 02:43 PM) I don't care who we trade him to. Whoever offers the most and the most must be a lot. Castellanos would work fine. We lost out on Veritek and Lowe because of that sorry philosophy of not helping a team in your league...Boston go those two for 1/3 of the value we sent to SF for, essentially, Foulke and Howry. Wtf??!! Those trades happened 16 years ago! And the philosophy is "don't trade within your division", not league. The Sox have made plenty of trades within the American League, both before and after the White Flag trade

2013 Cubs catch all thread
QUOTE (hammerhead johnson @ Jul 21, 2013 -> 10:00 AM) Let's not be disingenuous. You argue like a female, haha. There is absolutely no question that Samardzija's arm is at least a couple years younger than his actual age. The same can be said for Sale, although he puts much more stress on his arm due to his odd throwing motion. The point is, you're on strict pitch counts & innings limits in the minors. You don't get overextended. 485 minor league innings is the equivalent of how many IP in the majors? You fall in love like a female, Jeffy is your new Tyson Chandler, haha. You are the one giving arm ages due to innings pitched, so I guess nobody can argue with your own formula. The point here is that JS has had some good moments in the majors and some really bad ones. Up until last season he was largely considered a bust and even last season he did not finish out nearly as strong as he started. He could very well put it together and be a good pitcher, but he has a long way to go before he will be this elite pitcher you are seeing.

2013 Cubs catch all thread
QUOTE (Jake @ Jul 21, 2013 -> 09:48 AM) For comparison's sake, Sale has thrown just a little bit less in the MLB - 405 IP. We can't say they've had a similar workload though, because Jeffy threw 485 IP in MiLB while Chris threw 10. Samardzija threw 241 IP in college, too. Chris had similar college usage. What we can see, though, is you can't call Samardzija's arm 25 when he's thrown twice the innings of our 24 year old ace. How old is Chris's arm? 12? All of those innings count. This doesnt count because he is valuable and these innings were obviously not important so his arm didnt mind.

QUOTE (hammerhead johnson @ Jul 21, 2013 -> 09:12 AM) This makes sense is if contending GMs are viewing Garza as a strict rental. But Garza has 1100 career innings, whereas, Peavy is at 1900. That's a pretty enormous difference in mileage. But there's no question that Peavy is more valuable as far as this particular season is concerned. Side note - when wite was discussing Samardzija, he got hung up on his age (28) when he should have checked his career IP (475). So his arm is what, 25? Do his minor league and college innings not count?

Should sox ride sale less on throw away seasons?
QUOTE (GreenSox @ Jul 19, 2013 -> 06:20 PM) What they need to do is work on their efficiency so that they can throw 8 or 9 innings on fewer pitches. This is particularly true for Santiago. But there's no reason to throw these guys 110+ innings. Going more innings is the goal - not throwing more pitches. The Sox lead the league in high inning starts and I am not to the point where I think that Robin Ventura knows more than his peers. Do you think the Sox prefer high pitch count, innefficient games from their starters? Your entire premise is based on your grudge against the coaching staff

Save Your Money, GMs!
QUOTE (greg775 @ Jul 19, 2013 -> 04:17 PM) I'll stop now. I can't get my point across. My final statement in regard to your post: I am saying NO PLAYER should get that kind of money. That owners should ASSUME the injury issues will happen or something will happen. I was trying to make the point that teams CONSTANTLY are trying to dump players almost immediately after signing them to huge contracts. My solution: DON'T SIGN THEM TO BIG CONTRACTS TO BEGIN WITH. Since I can't get my point across, I'll stop. There will always be an owner ready to flash his cash in order to have the best available players.

Should sox ride sale less on throw away seasons?
QUOTE (GreenSox @ Jul 19, 2013 -> 12:22 PM) Often they are. But they aren't routinely pitched 115 innings plus like Ventura pitches our pitchers. Pitching their arm off isn't how they became aces. Really? Which Aces dont?

NBA Thread 2013-2014
QUOTE (Jake @ Jul 19, 2013 -> 12:14 PM) I'm just not convinced that one playoff series in 2011 was enough to evaluate the potential of this team, which is better than it was in 2011. the problem is that players like Deng and Carlos are what they are. You arent going to see those two get tremendously better, and with Carlos you could see him drop off or revert back to his injury issues. Im not advocating a trade simply to make a trade. I want the FO to make a move to make this team better and stop dangling the carrot.

Should sox ride sale less on throw away seasons?
QUOTE (GreenSox @ Jul 19, 2013 -> 12:15 PM) Yes. We don't need him as an innings eater. We need him as an ace, front of the rotation starter. And our other young pitchers should be ridden less as well. This team doesn't exist so that Ventura and Cooper can scratch out 70 wins instead of 65 Aces are usually one and the same
