Penn State horror story
QUOTE (Soxbadger @ Nov 10, 2011 -> 11:39 AM) No Kyle, thats what Mcquery says today. You dont know its true, for all we know McQuery told Paterno "Its not a big deal" and is now covering his own ass. Everyone just wants to jump at the worst possible story, but Ive yet to see the transcript of McQuerys testimony. Has anyone here seen the transcript? Because the Complaint is not testimony. Fine, your guesses are better than the testimony. You win

QUOTE (Soxbadger @ Nov 10, 2011 -> 11:33 AM) Kyle, My guess is that when mcquery went to Paterno, he told him that he saw something strange, but he wasnt exactly sure what it is. your guess is wrong. He gave a graphic description of what he saw. He wasnt vague about it. HE SAID HE SAW SANDUSKY HAVING SEX WITH A YOUNG BOY.

Penn State horror story
QUOTE (Soxbadger @ Nov 10, 2011 -> 11:30 AM) And that truth is that Penn State primarily failed these children, not Joe Paterno. Which is why Spanier, Curley, Schultz, and Paterno have lost their Jobs, which you continue to gloss over. Every single one of those guys was a link in a failed chain of command. Look, we all know the media is focusing on JoePa. He is the focal point of the university, he has been for 50 something years. That doesnt mean he is the only one who got blamed here, he is just the biggest name here. Nobody knows who the f*** Spanier, Curley and Schultz are. And I totally agree, McQueary should not be coaching at Penn state anymore.

Penn State horror story
QUOTE (Soxbadger @ Nov 10, 2011 -> 11:07 AM) Id say Patenro and Co. If some one sees a rape that is so terrible, they report it to the police. They dont go home, call their dad, and then tell the coach. So in your estimation, either McQueary lied, or the rape he witnessed wasnt nearly as terrible as we all think

Penn State horror story
QUOTE (God Loves The Infantry @ Nov 10, 2011 -> 08:12 AM) I don't think anyone is calling JoePa a child molester. But at the same time, we could do well to realize who the real child molester/rapist is. And that's Jerry Sandusky. While other people did indeed f*** up in this situation, Sandusky deserves 99.9% of the hatred and the anger here. absolutely agree. and i still dont understand how Sandusky is free on bail

Penn State horror story
QUOTE (GoodAsGould @ Nov 10, 2011 -> 06:48 AM) If he didn't witness it firsthand I'm not sure what exactly he was supposed to do, I mean yeah its tragic but it really was up to the eyewitness to report the crime or the AD of the school once Paterno relayed the the information to him. I think it's disgusting and all that but a lot of innocent people have had their lives ruined by something like this that I wouldn't be comfortable unless I knew the info was accurate as in saw it myself, the victim/attacker told me, or on camera. And I keep going back to the fact that Sandusky was still always there, always on campus. Joe knew what McQueary told him, McQueary saw what happened, and Sandusky was bringing kids to PSU camps and practices up until 2009. I have an 11 year old and a 15 month old, so admittedly my view is extremely biased, but my view is protect the kids at all costs. More could have been done, JoePa knows this. Instead, everyone relied on everyone else to get something done, and almost a complete decade passed before somethign was done, and when something was done it was not reported by any of the people that already knew. How many boys between 2002 and 2009 were affected by this? How many could have been prevented?

QUOTE (JoeCoolMan24 @ Nov 10, 2011 -> 03:00 AM) Am I the only one who thinks making Joe Paterno out to be a child molester is QUITE a reach? Also, am I the only non-PSU student that believes they should have just let Paterno finish out the season? I think you are the only one making Joe Paterno out to be a child molester. We all know he didnt do anything to those boys. We also know he didnt do anything for those boys. Like I said before, Curley, Schultz, Paterno, McQueary, Spanier should all be cleaned out of house. And Sandusky should be locked in a hole with a piece of bread and glass of water every 5 hours

Penn State horror story
QUOTE (Jordan4life @ Nov 9, 2011 -> 04:49 PM) So if your best friend threatens suicide do you automatically call the cops or try to talk to him/her yourself? It's a fine-line. There's no right or wrong answer. And I actually agree with everything you said. And the bold is why I think he should be fired. And I said that about 40 posts ago. But I can sympathize with Joe and get an idea on what was going through his head at the time. This is not the same thing J4L. Your friend was hit by her boyfriend. Sandusky abused children. These are known facts that could prevent future crimes. Someone threatening to kill themself is not the same thing.

QUOTE (Jordan4life @ Nov 9, 2011 -> 04:30 PM) That's what you're insinuating. Yes, we NOW know a rape took place. At the time it was an allegation. It's not about having different standards. Yes, if you know for a fact a crime is being committed, report it. I don't pretend to have this god-like, I always know what to do at any given moment attitude that some here appear to have. I had a friend of mine, 22 at the time, that got decked by her BF while arguing with him. She came to me, as a close friend, and confided to me what happened. And you can definitely tell she got socked. Of course, my first reaction was to call the cops. She BEGGED me not to do that. Literally on her knees. She loved the coward and didn't want me to get involved. So I stayed out of it. Am I a monster now? To be clear, I'm not comparing this situation to a child getting raped. But I don't pretend to be the morals messiah and I laugh when others do. Lets take this one more step if you want to throw analogies. Say your friend turns up dead 3 weeks later after she BEGGED you not to call the police? How do you feel about your inaction then? This is my entire thought process in this. I dont blame JoePa for what Sandusky did, I blame him for ignoring it for 10+ years. I blame him for allowing Sandusky to continue his predation of innocent children in the name of PSU. It is not a jailable offense, it is a heartbreaking moral failing. JoePa is not a villain here, he not totally an accomplice, but he definitely played a part in allowing the crime to continue. Yes, they were close friends and I understand that it was probably something he couldnt fully process or understand, but something more should have been done on many many levels to protect the children that looked up to these men and were abused by Sandusky

QUOTE (Jordan4life @ Nov 9, 2011 -> 01:29 PM) Nobody said cover the s*** up. The media has a job to do and I respect that to a degree. Forget about Soxtalk at the moment. This is the biggest story (sports wise) going on right now. And Paterno is getting reamed. And it's unfair and easy for people sitting behind a computer to cast permanent judgement. You of all people saying this is the height of irony. And seeing how flippant you are with this whole situation is very bothersome to me.

Penn State horror story
I hold the AD, VP, Paterno, and McQueary in the same regard. None of them took action, none of them prevented it, all of them hold some sort of responsibility in reporting this to the authorities at some point(AD/VP when they were told by Paterno, Paterno/McQueary when they realized nothing was going to be done) Sandusky can be buried in a deep hole and forgotten

Penn State horror story
QUOTE (Jenksismyb**** @ Nov 9, 2011 -> 11:36 AM) So distressed he couldn't/didn't stop it and waited an entire night to tell Paterno. There was no "pattern" at the time. That's the problem here. Everyone is looking at this situation like Paterno knew this guy was a monster for years and years. As far as we know, that was the first Paterno heard of anything like that before. Again, hindsight makes it easier to blame. Why on earth couldn't Paterno trust his AD and a VP of the school (who happens to oversee the campus police) to do the right thing and if necessary report the allegation to the proper outside authorities? You don't know that he's credible. For all we know Paterno might have known that Sandusky and the GA had private issues and the GA was trying to get him in trouble. Pure conjecture. And "letting them sweep the matter under the rug" is bulls***. Give me a reason why Paterno shouldn't have trusted his AD to do the right thing. You keep saying he should have trusted the AD to do the right thing, but here we are 9 years later and nothing was done. At what point do you stop trusting your AD to do the right thing when this guy has continued access to kids and the PSU facilities? Could you sit on this info for this long and do nothing about it?

QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Nov 8, 2011 -> 06:54 PM) Now they are saying it could be 20 victims. Wow. knowing how long he worked for the Second Mile foundation and all the access to kids he had, it seems like a small number. Sandusky also lives 1000 feet from a childrens school

Penn State horror story
QUOTE (daa84 @ Nov 8, 2011 -> 11:39 AM) anyone see SVU a couple weeks ago? The one with Bosh and Carmelo as guest stars, and it turned out the head basketball coach (played by the dad from the wonder years) was sexually abusing boys for years...almost identical situation to this. What a truly disgusting and awful story. Apparently there is now a 9th confirmed victim, and whats so unthinkable is that its possible that the true number of victims may be way more than that given the number of kids this guy interacted with in his "charity". just appalling that this stuff actually exists. You see it fictionalized on tv, but never really think its out there This is something I have thought about a lot since this story came out, and it is terrifying.

i saw the flinch last night, that is hilarious. QUOTE (bmags @ Nov 8, 2011 -> 11:09 AM) Also, no commentator mentioned the malaise with which the Eagles receivers seemed to play with last night. Jackson and Maclin both looked completely disinterested. Both of them got roughed up last night. The Bears played extremely physical on both sides of the ball for the entire game, I know that the Eagles did not expect that
