QUOTE (greg775 @ Sep 9, 2011 -> 05:15 PM) 1.) So do I. The announcers I listen to also tend to mention batting average, uh, every time a player steps in the box. No announcers I've heard mention the advanced sabes stuff. Maybe on base percentage once in a while or some put that graphic on the screen. 2.) I agree with that post. The basis of people getting mad at me is my simple statement, which I stand by, saying Juan Pierre is a good baseball player. I think he is. I also find it so funny that many can't forgive him for getting off to a slow start when other players' slow starts are shrugged off. There are still people on this board who think Rios is a good baseball player. Name one, Mr Broadbrush

he went through Sproles right shoulder. it was a great play on the ball, but the contact was before the ball arrived and impacted Sproles ability to catch the ball. -

QUOTE (GoSox05 @ Sep 8, 2011 -> 11:07 PM) That call on AJ Hawk at the end of the game was BS. former NFL referee was asked about this on his twitter and this is his response Pass interference rule: pg 48. "playing through the back of an opponent in an attempt to make a play on the ball." That is a foul. -
QUOTE (Jordan4life @ Sep 8, 2011 -> 04:28 PM) lol. Get outta here. Why would I throw saves/save% in there as two of the categories (I have no idea why I said save%, as that stat sucks) if I didn't mean as the closer? this reminds me of a certain prediction/guarantee about a certain Gavin Floyd that a certain poster certainly did not live up to

QUOTE (Greg Hibbard @ Sep 9, 2011 -> 10:35 AM) It's kind of sad how certain people on this site rush to make fun of Juan Pierre defenders. This is a guy who is the anti-Rios (in terms of heart), but the naysayers just can't wait to jump all over anyone who is a fan of him. For two seasons, he's pretty much done exactly what we expected him to do coming in - hit about .280-.300 with no pop and some wheels. He had one s***ty month on defense and in terms of stolen bases, (it was mediocre offensively) and people just don't let up. It's pretty unreal. See, i think this is a big misconception. At the beginning of the season, the anger that was directed towards Juan was well deserved, he was simply awful, along with other simply awful players doing the same thing. Ozzie continued to lead him off and watched 2 months of grounding out weakly to the second baseman along with too many CS, which further fueled it. Now, people are indifferent. He has become a contributor and has ceased to part of the problem, which is good. People have stopped calling for his head, but there are still plenty that want a change at the top of the order next year. There is no problem with that IMO, for 2 consecutive seasons Juan has had horrible starts, which (coincentally?) coincided with horrible starts for the White Sox. Personally, i like what I have seen from De Aza and I would like him to get a shot to lead off and play consistently next season. That doesnt make me a Juan hater as greg775 likes to state, I am just ready to move on. I really dont think next season I will look back and say it was a horrible decision, but baseball is a funny game.

QUOTE (BigSqwert @ Sep 9, 2011 -> 10:26 AM) Can you explain this to those of us who've stopped watching? they raised him on to their shoulders, and started a "Juan" chant, then headed over to greg775's house(with him still on their shoulders) for a beer with ELrockin and Lemon_44. I am pretty sure white doves were released at the moment he left the stadium too.

QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Sep 9, 2011 -> 10:14 AM) Except that the NFL has already changed kick off distances before. They reason they went to the further distance was to encourage returns. They know that this is going to dramatically change the kick off game before they ever do it. of course they knew, that doesnt mean they wont change it when they set a record for touchbacks for an entire season by week 8 -

QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Sep 9, 2011 -> 10:05 AM) I hope you are right, but the NFL had to know that going in. sometimes the leagues need to see the results and hear the complaints before changes are made. remember when the nba changed to the composite ball? -

I am predicting the kickoff distance changes by midseason. The league cant stand by and watch all of these touchbacks, it is ridiculous. You cannot just edge out such an exciting part of the game -
S. M. H. pretty big difference in speaking in generalities and making broad generalizations about a large group of people, but as always i see you dont see the difference

QUOTE (greg775 @ Sep 8, 2011 -> 11:41 AM) He doesn't? I got jumped for calling him a "good" ballplayer. You can't even get people on here to admit he's "good." Of course I then asked for the definition of good and Quentin wasn't good either. No, you ignore stats that people show you and rely only on your own eye test and what "other people that you know that are not on this site" tell you. Dont act like people dont back up their points on this site. The only person who I consistently see that makes points and consistently fails to back them up with any form of statistical analysis is YOU. You also make broad generalizations of what people say on this site. Nobody said Quentin sucks. Pretty much everyone here agrees that Quentin is an injury liability, he is due for a big payday, and is far too streaky to pay him the big bucks that he is going to be asking for. So, these same people agree that he is someone who should be put on the trading block to get value for him before he goes to the open market. I am sorry you dont understand that part of the business, but that is all it is. Business

QUOTE (Greg Hibbard @ Sep 7, 2011 -> 11:39 AM) Your entire argument this thread has been "we haven't beaten the Twins when it has been meaningful". This is exactly what I have attempted to respond to. In summation, I have just argued that there was a meaningful series that we not only beat Minnesota in, but we swept them, and on the road to boot. I understand this may not be meaningful to most people. It appears as though the only thing that is meaningful is clear division winner and advancement in the playoffs. Nevertheless, with the luck/lack of skill we have had against Minnesota directly, effectively ending their potential fairy-tale chance of a comeback in 2011 was pretty f***ing meaningful to me on August 5th, 6th and 7th. This is really just a wasted effort. J4L will continue to change his argument, so dont bother -

QUOTE (fathom @ Sep 5, 2011 -> 09:56 PM) Greg, I bet last year you would have never predicted that soxtalk posters would be as understanding and forgiving about our closer, Sergio Santos, blowing 5 saves in pretty terrible fashion. He was too busy predicting that we would all sorely miss Jenks when he was gone. Spot on

QUOTE (Thunderbolt @ Sep 5, 2011 -> 09:54 AM) Since Manny Acta and Davey Johnson (my guys) are both employed at the moment i'd agree that Dave Martinez really is the most inspired choice here. Sandberg is an interesting name but i have a feeling his style is a little too Ozzie-like for my comfort. how could you possibly know this?

QUOTE (fathom @ Sep 2, 2011 -> 11:46 AM) To make KW more of a sympathetic figure? not so much sympathetic as much as someone who is trying to stay above this. It makes ozzie look like a puppet master, and cowley just spitting out whatever Ozzie says. I have said all along that KW deserves blame for some of the action(roster additions) and inaction(callups) that has gone on this year, but this crap out of Cowley is a different level altogether.
-
QUOTE (fathom @ Sep 2, 2011 -> 11:41 AM) Everyone knows I'm anti-Ozzie, but I truly feel the last week has seen a major shift amongst Sox fans with regards to Team KW vs Team Ozzie. Cowley definitely shifted some feelings with this interview
-
QUOTE (pittshoganerkoff @ Sep 2, 2011 -> 11:35 AM) Could you imagine Zambrano and Ozzie in the same dugout? Maybe they'd actually conteract each other, and they'd both calm down and start doing their jobs well. More likely, Zambrano would throw a fit and destroy a Gatorade cooler with a bat, and Ozzie would PH him for Konerko because he "liked what I saw with him swinging the bat". Ozzie and Zambrano are very close friends, I dont think Zambrano would have those issues. I could be wrong. But then again, seems like the chances Ozzie would be his manager are growing slimmer every minute
-
QUOTE (fathom @ Sep 2, 2011 -> 11:28 AM) Was it Cowley or one of Ozzie's kids that tweeted last year about KW being out on a date? Ugh, this whole thing is going to end up being so damn ugly. It is past the ugly stage. We are now into the brown bag over the head stage
-
QUOTE (Marty34 @ Sep 2, 2011 -> 11:24 AM) Peavy for Zambrano + some cash makes sense. Maybe we can send Peavy to Wrigleyville with a bottle of jack and he can sing the go cubs go song again and convince Ricketts to push the trade through I may be in the minority, but I would rather have the insane Zambrano over the underperforming Peavy
