Who will finish with more bombs?
back up what? His bad overall fitness? Nobody but dunn would be able to back it up. All i see is a large man who looks pretty damn slow swinging the bat, and has all season long. Considering he is one of the more renowned sluggers of he past 10 years, it is mighty strange that he signs a large contract, goes about his business of not swinging the bat all offseason and now has one of the historically worst seasons hitting. Nobody has to back up anything IMO. The proof is right in front of your face

8/27 GT - SOX @ M's - 9:10pm CDT - CSN
I hate west coast games. And even moreso when it is a saturday game and it is still on at 9 PM. I read somewhere that Pineda has had a 6+ ERA since the beginning of July, hopefully Dayan gets some good ABs and Dunn continues to sit

QUOTE (ChiSox_Sonix @ Aug 26, 2011 -> 02:01 PM) Best GM eva!!! Dont even joke, this is an extremely shrewd move. AA is building a contending team with a focus on defense, and D Wise is the lynchpin. AA knows all- 2011 Films Thread

QUOTE (Milkman delivers @ Aug 25, 2011 -> 10:17 PM) I just watched Trollhunter. It's in the mold of The Blair Witch Project/Cloverfield, but I think it was better than both. Anyone ever see it? I posted a few of the trailers earlier this year, I was really looking forward to it. It looks pretty good. There is already talk of an english version of that movie- Sox Did Not Put in a claim on Kubel or Thome
QUOTE (Baron @ Aug 25, 2011 -> 02:07 PM) Which is why I said is he worth that compensation draft pick wise. Can I ask how you know the last part? He is solid. Just go with it.- Sox Did Not Put in a claim on Kubel or Thome

QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Aug 25, 2011 -> 09:20 AM) Speaking of the Twins, they are going to look way different next year. I wonder who all is coming back for them? Unless they make a unforeseen splash in free agency, I see a bigtime youth movement centered around Span/Mauer/Morneau(if Morneau ever recovers). I really dont know if they are going to be able to give Cuddyer what he wants, which is probably more in the year category than the money category.- All Things Rick Hahn
QUOTE (caulfield12 @ Aug 25, 2011 -> 01:18 PM) So Cheat was wrong about Hahn 3-4 years ago, too? I forget, when did Cheat become the media? The guy used to post here, and he had some good thoughts, but he is the same as beerleaguer.com/bleacherreports. Which brings us right back to my original point about what you posted. We can argue this all day, but we won't. I wish Hahn the very best and I really hope he does well wherever he goes(And of course if he stays), but I am not about to make a call on the way he operates based on the extremely small pool of articles that he is mentioned in.- All Things Rick Hahn
Thanks caulfield, those articles written one month from each other in the new york times and a shoutout by gammons have confirmed everything you have assumed. The question now is, what does Mao Zedong think? Everything thats being written about him is confirming that what he does is hand in hand with Kenny Williams, so why didnt Williams and his Stanford education get the same "hybrid saber guy" label applied to him?- Peavy with an eye on '12
QUOTE (flavum @ Aug 25, 2011 -> 12:33 PM) I've always felt Peavy has hated playing for the Sox, and really I can't blame him now. He's a douche, but this organization sucks right now. So I hope he finishes strong next year or gets traded mid-season, and smell ya later. he is part of the reason the organization sucks right now.- All Things Rick Hahn
QUOTE (caulfield12 @ Aug 25, 2011 -> 12:51 PM) "Hahn Dynasty" would work if he was in China. The problem is 90% of the articles written about Hahn state this same information. Not just bloggers or "internet writers" but well-paid, national sports journalists. If I watch Obama on tv and describe him as "cool/aloof/detached/cerebral," then am I incorrect if I offer that as my opinion based on an accumulation of observation, as well as reading about him? I'm guessing somewhere out there is an interview (maybe Mark Liptak or whatever his name) with Hahn where it was actually put down on paper...in terms of his philosophy. The problem is that you are making an entire character assessment of one person who is not in the public spotlight and really has nothing in the media that pegs him as much of anything. All you keep saying is "assumption" and "i'm guessing" and then you follow it up with an obscure "would i be correct if I saw X person and thought blah blah about him?". Dropping names doesnt help your argument here. Please, by all means, post these articles that confirm your 90 percent description, and try not to grab them from thebleacherreports.com and beerleaguer.com.- All Things Rick Hahn
QUOTE (RockRaines @ Aug 25, 2011 -> 12:34 PM) Hahn: too expensive, too old, and not good. What cutesy nickname can we give him? Bollywood Hahn- All Things Rick Hahn
QUOTE (caulfield12 @ Aug 25, 2011 -> 11:51 AM) That just seems to be the "collective/consensus" opinion on Hahn from every article ever written about him. I've never seen anyone explain WHY, just heard him referred to in that camp simply because he doesn't fit in the "old school" camp at all. As far as KW and Stanford, he's always promoted his "football tough" approach and the comparisons with the Raiders...I think his "football first" background tends to supercede the university he attended. Who knows, maybe he attended more classes than Tiger Woods, Mike Mussina, Joe Borchard and Jerry Yang. Jim Hendry never was a numbers guy. He was a scout, which certainly has its advantages. But at the end of the day, that scout made quite a few questionable moves -- beyond the Alfonso Soriano contract -- that perhaps could've been prevented with better statistical analysis. And that's where Hahn comes in. He's not a complete numbers guy -- which is good -- but he has a much better balance between scouting and statistics in his analysis and decision-making than Hendry. But, if the Cubs decide to target Hahn, the next question is this -- would he actually leave the White Sox? Here's an example from the first random Hahn article I googled (from beerleague.com). What is the writer's opinion based on? Interviews with others around Hahn? Hearsay? Conjecture? I've yet to see any solid evidence or support of this common assumption that seems to be flying around about him. Maybe it's simply because with the new group of young GM's, everyone assumes he can't be a traditional, "baseball background with a lesser education" type of GM. It is based on a bloggers opinion. You are basically regurgitating this guys opinion on it, and passing it off as fact- All Things Rick Hahn
QUOTE (caulfield12 @ Aug 25, 2011 -> 11:05 AM) This is basically the assumption because of his time spent with Moorad and Steinberg, as well as Northwestern and Harvard Law. Since he's "numbers oriented," he has to be a SABR type of person. On the other hand, we've never really seen these numbers applied to personnel/scouting/FA decisions or referenced in articles. The only examples I could think of would be the times they went to arbitration with a player, but those examples aren't plentiful and they're obviously closed to outsiders, so only the agents would really be able to testify to his actual approach. He's definitely not Grady Fuson, old baseball scout, referenced in Moneyball. This is all your assumption, you cant be presenting this as fact. Nothing is known about Hahns MO until he steps out of KWs shadow and does his own job. Northwestern and Harvard law really dont play much into this, you dont see people touting KW going to Stanford as any reason for the way he works- 2011 White Sox Catch-All Thread
QUOTE (caulfield12 @ Aug 25, 2011 -> 07:07 AM) FYI, the initial "Sox-like" lowball offer by the Twins to Cuddyer was $12.5 million/2 years Thats pretty Twins-like too.- 2011 Films Thread
I have posted a Drive trailer in the past, this is the newly released international trailer. I have really come to appreciate Gosling.
