QUOTE (Steve9347 @ Apr 15, 2009 -> 09:00 AM) Just to throw this out there. If my daughter (yeah don't have one) was asking me to do something with her, even if it were to see a s*** movie, I'd be happy to do so. I think Big Sqwert would too. I just dont think he would admit it.
  2. We ALL want Lastings Milledge You know you do
  3. QUOTE (lostfan @ Apr 14, 2009 -> 11:04 PM) No, several orders of magnitude worse. I will never forget my best friends reaction to that movie. Hysterics
  4. QUOTE (fathom @ Apr 14, 2009 -> 09:30 PM) And Chris Carpenter got hurt. That didn't last long. elbow?
  5. QUOTE (lostfan @ Apr 14, 2009 -> 08:58 PM) Ah, I get it now. You are DeWayne Wise. All right DeWayne, to be clear, actually like you, and I like having you on the 25-man roster. I just didn't like having you start in CF and leading off and I think you're a better player coming off the bench. Sorry for the misconception. LOL, you better watch out, you are going to be SHAMED!!!!!
  6. QUOTE (StrangeSox @ Apr 14, 2009 -> 03:39 PM) This discussion reminds me of this article: Bench Quentin for Owens http://www.soxtalk.com/forums/index.php?showtopic=64387 At the time, it seemed like an incredibly stupid article. In retrospect, its probably one of the dumbest articles I've ever read. LOL, I love how you stuck this quote at the end of the article today, thats hilarious JimH was all over that article, he still wants Ryan Freel
  7. QUOTE (lostfan @ Apr 14, 2009 -> 02:43 PM) Lesson learned for today: Kill Whitey LMAO by the way, where is Shipps and his big bag of Iams? He would have been fun in this thread
  8. QUOTE (Princess Dye @ Apr 14, 2009 -> 02:11 PM) Well I wouldnt expect that to be ironic at all as he's a knowing baseball person. The people on here are all knowing. I have some serious doubt that everyone booing at the stadium had that amount of perspective. I guess we wont know one way or the other. It's interesting to me that some here say this would easily happen at Wrigley but not at US Cellular. I remember Brian McRae saying that taunts from the bleachers were disgusting. I wonder how Milton Bradley will find the Confines. To the Sox fans' credit I havent heard anything of Brian McRae's type complaints from a Sox outfielder. Which also goes back to an earlier dismissed point about Cubs fans wearing the "Horry Kow" t-shirts and the White Sox fans simply appreciating Iguchi and Shingo.
  9. QUOTE (Kalapse @ Apr 14, 2009 -> 02:02 PM) And ironically enough; Lawrence Holmes was one of the more vocal Wise detractors. As was Jason Goff
  10. We should trade Carlos Quentin to the Mariners for Jarrod Washburn
  11. QUOTE (StrangeSox @ Apr 14, 2009 -> 01:55 PM) Important point. Most of the Chicago sports media were starting the "Wise is not a leadoff hitter" talk, and I'd say that's where the average fan gets their info. Agreed. And the media is not always right, but this one was a no-brainer.
  12. QUOTE (Princess Dye @ Apr 14, 2009 -> 01:51 PM) Pods came here as a career minor leaguer who had a little spurt of success with Milwaukee. Then had a down year with them. Was traded here for a very productive hitter. People were down on that trade, yes. Those in the know. But if he struck out his first two at-bats at US Cellular, I wonder what the reaction was/wouldve been. My big thing is with the fact that it was TWO at-bats. That to me is charged with something a little extra, and of course alcohol sales and reported things happening at Wrigley all make the mind consider possibilities. Yeah after 2 WEEKS of Sox fans and Media alike complaining that Wise WAS NOT THE RIGHT GUY FOR THE LEADOFF HITTER after Ozzie named him the leadoff.
  13. Im just wondering how we can quantify "amount of boos" for anyone vs anyone else. Is there a boo statistic I missed?
  14. QUOTE (Capn12 @ Apr 14, 2009 -> 01:02 PM) I'm way too lazy to read all of the thread, but fact remains that even the most layman Sox fan knows that, at this point in his career, Wise's 'potential' is pretty low compared to almost any other option in our system. And yet, thats the solution we came to think was best for our CF job and leadoff hitter. They have a right to boo what the organization decided was our 'best option' for success in CF and leadoff. I will help you out, look at post #16. Then you will know why this thread is as long as it is, and you wont need to read the middle unless you feel like it
  15. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Apr 14, 2009 -> 01:00 PM) So basically the only test that applies is if you narrow the window to such a narrow point that only one player fits through it? Really? This discussion is a waste of time in that case. It has kind of been that way for 5+ pages
  16. QUOTE (Princess Dye @ Apr 14, 2009 -> 12:57 PM) I agree that this is the board's mindset. But can we really believe that huge amount of booing in The Cell was done with the knowledge that Wise is 31? Some of the people in that crowd read every stat available on every player. Some have not been to ESPN.com ever. It's the booing that day that got me upset. The talk around here is very well informed with regards to players' backgrounds. people arent booing him because of his age. They are booing because he is past the point in his life where he should be a productive player, and yes White Sox fans know that Wise is out of position in the lineup and on the field.
  17. QUOTE (Princess Dye @ Apr 14, 2009 -> 12:41 PM) That's my whole point though. No one touches the reason behind his popularity. He's a monumentally untalented basketball player who is cheered by the entire crowd every time he puts up a shot. It's really something to witness if yr ever flipping around and see the Celtics in garbage time. No one really touches on the reason for his popularity with a ten foot pole however. Thats where I wish we'd take the next step in discussion like this, nationwide that is. Talking more about what's unintentional but still a problem. Again this is something I see myself doing as well. If he is so popular as you say, why doesnt anyone know that he is popular? You would think that a guy with some sort of percieved popularity(especially if it may or may not be because he is white) would be a little bit more of a known quantity. The only person I have ever heard bring his name up in any race conversation that I have ever read or participated in, is you. He is a goofy looking bench player, of course fans of a dominant championship team want to see the goofy guy at the end of the bench play, thats the way fans work. Now if the Celtics were a mediocre team that wasnt going to make the playoffs, do you still think that Scalabrine would be this (so-called) icon that you are making him out to be?
  18. QUOTE (caulfield12 @ Apr 14, 2009 -> 12:21 PM) But sometimes there's no differentiating between a player's country/culture and the feelings that engenders. I mean, if a white player from rural Mississippi or West Viriginia did something, would we be describing those places as almost like 3rd world countries? People made fun of Boone Logan for his personality and accent, but not to the extent I've seen misconceptions about Latin America here. Cubano, of course, always raises this point...sometimes I agree with him, sometimes I don't. My point is, people are making comments about players AND countries without having a very deep understand of either. That's what bothers me more than anything. I dont really remember a discussion of Uribes homeland being the issue when he was accused of shooting an officer. In fact I remember that the main issue on this board was that there was a possibility that the White Sox starting shortstop shot an officer and might land in jail like Ugueth Urbina.

QUOTE (Milkman delivers @ Apr 14, 2009 -> 12:18 PM) Win-win? I would rather live without that tension in my life. Especially when it can be avoided
  20. QUOTE (Princess Dye @ Apr 14, 2009 -> 12:06 PM) Fair enough, I just think that going to the Filibuster is like saying lets kill it. I dont know a ton about how popular the filibuster is though. I would think a lot more people see something if it's here. Scalabrine is the poster child for this element of sports fandom. There's no good reason for him to be hailed as he is. if you think the buster is where threads go to die, then you need to browse it a little more often. There are some HUGE threads in that forum, and the discussion never ends Again, your Scalabrine example just doesnt make sense. I barely even know who he is, and I certainly dont know that he has built up a boston fanbase. If this guy was such a clearcut example of racism that you see in sports, you would think that it would be talked up a little bit more.
  21. ESPN showing the game as delayed. anyone know an estimated gametime?
  22. QUOTE (Princess Dye @ Apr 14, 2009 -> 11:56 AM) In Germany, there's actually a penalty for how much you talk about the Holocaust. It's a free speech restriction made in hopes of bettering their society and repairing things. I just wonder how anyone learns about it if they're afraid to speak. just like you just said "I didnt call anyone racist", Im going to turn that around on you and tell you that i didnt tell anyone that they couldnt talk about race issues. Like lostfan just said, there is a time and place for these things, and this thread and forum are neither. And it doesnt look like anyone is afraid to talk race here. At all. Of course when you bringing up piss poor examples like Brian Scalabrine on the Celtics as your proof, its kind of hard to get a foothold in a decent conversation
  23. QUOTE (Princess Dye @ Apr 14, 2009 -> 11:45 AM) Well this is where I differ from the southsidedon posts because Dye being traded at this age has no bearing on anything. I'm white, and I think it's pretty obvious that a lot of franchises have a situation where there are second or third tier talent white players that are seen as this hardworking, grinder class...... .....and there are players of color that fit that same bill and aren't embraced as easily. I agree with those that say Crede has taken his lumps on this board - I guess my point is less in reference to the people posting here as opposed to the people booing at US Cellular. I think the type of person that posts here is (in many cases) different than the majority of US Cellular attendees. This is just a feeling I get though. Also I'm kind of surprised that so few people here want to touch the topic, some saying send it to Filibuster. I dont see the danger in merely talking. You act as if you do not know that race issues are inflammatory. The filibuster was created for discussion of many different inflammatory topics, and this is very close to becoming one of those topics. Palehose talk doesnt need this type of thread cluttering up the works
  24. QUOTE (MHizzle85 @ Apr 14, 2009 -> 11:00 AM) Bourne/Mysterio should of really been given more time last night. Swagger/Cena was semi-entertaining...well until the SuperCena finish. The handicap match was TNA-like. If these guys wanted Orton so bad why couldn't they wait until they all get their hands on him at Backlash. As for the picks, MVP will work...he's been long overdue to go over to RAW. Matt Hardy going over to Raw will work only if they give him a good program to work with. Punk going to SD works for me, as long as he'll be feuding with Edge that is. The Miz/Morrison split worked, except the wrong guy got drafted to Raw. Morrison the better of the two is still on ECW for the time being, I don't see this going well for Miz. It'll be interesting to see how Jericho is used on Smackdown. Also, last night Todd Grisham took a shot at Tommy Dreamer saying that he's as much of a legend as the Brooklyn Brawler. 2 ways this was stupid. 1. Why would you bury a face? 2. Why would you completely discredit someone who was there from the original ECW days on & helped put that company on the map. Maybe i'm a little more opinionated on it since I grew up on the original ECW. Bourne hit some great spots and is amazingly athletic, but that guy needs to learn how to sell a hit. Even my wife was saying he is a bad actor
