COUNT DOWN TO CLINCHING THE ALC!
Last time i checked, the Sox had to go 16-16 for the month of august and the Indians had to go 21-8(or something like that). So now do the Sox have to go 9-16 and the Indians go 16-6?

A Quick Word on The Count
QUOTE(LVSoxFan @ Sep 8, 2005 -> 04:28 PM) Remember Ozzie said something a couple of weeks ago that I thought was interesting: he said Contreras has the best stuff, even though he's not the best pitcher. Side note: how funny is it when Ozzie blurts out stuff so bluntly? He was talking about B-Mac this week and he says something like "The kid plays three games this season and he sucks," but now he's lights-out. LOL! You won't hear that from Dusty Baker! Thats because Dusty doesnt play rookies. You cant know how good or bad your players are if you stay with your crappy vets until they crash the ship

QUOTE(Capn12 @ Sep 8, 2005 -> 08:25 AM) Stage presence and incessant rambling shouldnt be considered the same. Like I said, different strokes for different folks. I didnt consider them the same. Some bands actually appreciate your presence at their performances, and let the crowd know it. Other bands go out, do their songs and walk off the stage onto the bus as if it didnt matter. you can tell which is which up on stage. I dont want a band to preach to me either, but I want to know that they are enjoying the show also.

QUOTE(Capn12 @ Sep 8, 2005 -> 06:29 AM) Opinions, like assholes, as they say... I saw them in Charlotte last year, thought they did a pretty good job myself. Are they out there pepping the crowd up? No, but if you are there to hear stories instead of hearing the music, you can always go read the internet. Just my humble opinion. If the band isnt giving me a stage presence when I pay my good money to watch him perform, then I am not going to be happy. I want to see a performance when i go to a concert, I dont want to see a guy up on stage going through the motions.

Griffey likely done for year
QUOTE(CanOfCorn @ Sep 7, 2005 -> 10:01 AM) I wonder why no one is saying that these injuries are some sort of defect. I mean, this is the second or third time he's pulled part of a tendon off a bone. I can't remember a lot of other players having the same type of injury more than once. I'm sorry he's hurt...but I wonder if this is a career ender. From what i have read, i gathered that KGJ didnt do much to augment his natural strength. Basically, he just went out and played. He rarely worked out, ran, did stamina excercises. So as he got older, it started to catch up to him. Im not saying this is the reason, but it certainly can be a symptom to his problem with staying healthy now.

QUOTE(bighurt2719 @ Sep 7, 2005 -> 07:55 AM) man, i hate to be so critical, but what will it take for you all to shut up about trading or getting rid of paulie? its not happening. he is producing and we are winning. let me guess, we should trade him for vinnie castilla. no, jim thome. no todd helton. all those trades are GREAT ideas. No you dont sound critical at all after that statement. :headshake

After much thought, I have decided that the Mayor of New Orleans, Ray Nagin, is actually the lead guitarist for Audioslave, formerly Rage Against the Machine, Tom Morello. Nagin Morello This case is now closed. You can go back to your regular complaining about modern day music.

QUOTE(tonyho7476 @ Sep 7, 2005 -> 07:34 AM) This shows why Cincy ownership is dumb. They had a chance to unload this guy, after years of wasting money on him, and they f***ed it up. Enjoy being horrible for the next few years. Congrats! Evil will always triumph over good because good is dumb.(namethatquote) LOL, Lindner can sell his team with its injured star now. Im sure it is that much easier to unload the team now.

Pirates fire McClendon
QUOTE(knightni @ Sep 6, 2005 -> 03:20 PM) http://www.baseball-reference.com/teams/PIT/2001.shtml *Ahem* Showing the season end averages doesnt indicate how good a team is(or should have been). The Sox have been great on paper since 2000. Now all of their averages are in the pisser and they are 34 games over .500. Besides the fact that the Pirates started the year with Derrek Bell(.179) as their primetime acquisition and started him in the outfield, most of the players you mentioned either werent there(Perez) or played half the year(CWilson 88 games, JWilson 108 games). McClendon has been dealt a bad hand every year he was the coach, the payroll has been dismal, the team has traded away any offense they had as soon as it showed promise. McClendon will get another shot, he didnt blow this one IMO.

Jose Lima is just a big headcase. Anyone who glares into the opposing dugout after getting a strikeout, while losing, just needs to take it down a notch. He never seemed to have any tact while showing up opposing batters. I thought his fall from grace after Houston moved to Minute maid Park was very appropriate. Oh yeah, Jose Lima, brought to you by Famvir. Ask your doctor if it is for you! http://www.famvir.com/index.jsp?checked=y

QUOTE(Gene Honda Civic @ Sep 6, 2005 -> 12:57 PM) If the playoffs started today..... The White Sox would host the NY Yankees in the ALDS, and have home field advantage throughout the entire playoffs. -- Just a thought. Buehrle vs. Johnson Contreras vs. Chacon Garcia vs. Mussina Garland vs. Wright Buehrle vs. Johnson Mussina is rumored to be done for the year, Wright just got a linedrive right at his collarbone. Im thinking Aaron Small is going to be in rotation somewhere.

Juan Uribe
QUOTE(Balta1701 @ Sep 5, 2005 -> 07:10 PM) While watching the game yesterday...Hawk said that the Big Hurt paid a visit to the team while they were in Texas and really beat up on Juan & helped him with his swing. From that point on...bang, zoom, right to the moon. Juan...just keep this going through the end of October. Your hot streak last year lasted about 2 months or so...can it last that long this year? We can average 10 runs a game if he gets truly hot. Thats funny, Farmer and Rooney were saying that Walt Hriniak came in and worked with Uribe at the request of the team. I wonder which helped more, FT or Hriniak?

Bill Melton
QUOTE(BigSqwert @ Sep 6, 2005 -> 08:01 AM) Where is Wayne Hagan (spelling?)? He was Rooney's previous partner in the booth. They sounded alike so one of them had to go. Isnt he the one who talked smack about Todd Helton earlier this year and had to retract his statements? I say no to Bill Melton also. I dont like listening to him, he seems to be far too impressed with himself.

Trade Winds Closed
QUOTE(Chisoxfn @ Sep 5, 2005 -> 05:26 PM) Anyway closed the forum down and moved it into the archive section of the board. We'll probably re-open it during the off-season, unless people would prefer to keep all that discussion on the main board (whichever the masses prefer we'll do). I also moved over the two active threads that were in that forum (one made by tony and than the other on Furcal).

Sox Apparel question
QUOTE(DBAH0 @ Sep 6, 2005 -> 09:25 AM) On a totally unrelated note, I get to pick up my authentic Home Sox Jersey tomorrow. Oh and where's the "Where would he play?" shirt? i wonder if Ron Mexico jerseys arent available for baseball too?

Sox Apparel question
Someone on another board was asking where to find shirts like "He Gawn" and "You can put it on the board!"? Is there a website with shirts like this, or is this pretty much a walk-up deal?
-
"where would he play?"
Easily Hawks most quoted saying on this site on July 30th-Aug 1st, and Aug 30th-September 1st.

Hey, Guess What?
QUOTE(aboz56 @ Sep 5, 2005 -> 09:11 AM) When using the iTrip, make sure the volume level of your ipod is not greater than 75 or 80 percent of the maximum. If it is, you'll get a horrible sound. It's better to turn the ipod down and the radio up if you want clear reception. It can also be very tricky to find a station that works mostly everywhere in your town, but after you do, the device works pretty damn well. The Itrip seems to be good for some, and not so good for others. I completely agree on the Ipod volume with the Itrip, 75-80 percent is about as high as you can go without getting crackles in your signal. The station I use pretty much all of the time is 87.9. It seems to be unused pretty much everywhere, and I never have problems with the signals.

Hey, Guess What?
QUOTE(The Critic @ Sep 4, 2005 -> 03:21 PM) Update: After f***ing around with it a little, I was able to restore my wife's playlist and the thing seems stable. Still not sure why the "do not disconnect" icon stayed up so long during the battery charge. I had to click on the "safely remove hardware" icon to remove the USB cable, then get out of the iTunes player and then do it all over again. I'll definitely keep an eye on it - I guess it's a good thing I got the extended 3-year plan. And thanks for the tip, bmags - I was able to get all of my "bad" songs ( my ugly punk & metal stuff ) off of her playlist. She will be VERY grateful to you.... The Ipod will continue to say "Do not Disconnect" until you click on the eject button on Itunes, next to your Ipods name. The first time you charge the Ipod is the absolute longest, the battery pretty much has nothing in it, and it charges all the way up. My Ipod took a pretty long time to charge the first time also. There are tons of little nuances that Apple installs as defaults, and they are pretty damn annoying. The worst being the automatic update. Once you disable the Auto Update, its pretty awesome. Try www.ipodlounge.com for a downloadable help manual on every seperate Ipod version. Its pretty handy. If you want to play your songs on more of a constant random selection, go to your Settings and scroll down to shuffle, and click it twice until SONG is showing. Give it a chance before you throw it out the window.
