Farmer and Rooney just mentioned that the Sox picked up a pitcher off of waivers from Texas, i think his name is Ryan Wing? They said this is his second go around with the Sox

QUOTE(southsider2k5 @ Jun 30, 2005 -> 01:50 PM) FYI, since the game hasn't started yet, people who did not make Picks to Click can still make them until the first pitch. Only 22 people have picks in, and the standings are VERY tight. I just went to make my pick to click and it is locked already. I noticed a few picks were Podsednik. Whoops. Im going with Rowand, I think he is going to snap out of his funk now that he has been dropped in the lineup.

QUOTE(The Ginger Kid @ Jun 30, 2005 -> 01:05 PM) Too bad about Billy Corgan. I grew up with Jimmy Chamberlin, the drummer for for Smashing Pumpkins and know he is a Sox fan, at least he was all through grade school in Joliet. Belushi's a talentless douche bag who made a career by imitating his dead brother. And Harry was singing "Take me out" at Comiskey long before he did it at the urinal. I hate this nation's love affair with the cubs. Is this all on TWIB? Where did these random thoughts come from, Jack Handy?
-
QUOTE(Spiff @ Jun 30, 2005 -> 12:53 PM) The only mention of the Sox in this TWIB is AJ's walkoff against LA. I havent watched that show since the original host died (Mel Allen? What was his name?) It just doesnt have the same flair it used to have, they dont have consistent hosts. I think that Bob Eucker should host it.

QUOTE(Queen Prawn @ Jun 30, 2005 -> 12:50 PM) What happened? (I don't remember that or hearing about it...) Minnie Minosos bat was ripped off the statue after or during the final cubs game. I bet the Sox spring for some surveillance on every statue from now on, fixing those statues isnt cheap.

QUOTE(upnorthsox @ Jun 30, 2005 -> 12:39 PM) 2 outs, position yourself for the out not the runner on 3rd. Even so, you would play normal depth, wouldnt you? Why would you position yourself in the outfield with a player who can run pretty well in the box? -

QUOTE(SoxFan1 @ Jun 30, 2005 -> 12:19 PM) I'm pretty sure he didn't start off in the outfield grass. I recall Hawk saying how Ozzie brought the infield in and how Polanco could easily bloop one over the infielders. Uribe had to range back and to his right, plant, and make a strong throw and he did. Amazing play. Probably the best of the season so far. thats what I remembered. just checking. -
QUOTE(The Ginger Kid @ Jun 30, 2005 -> 12:21 PM) Love that! Plus, remember Trammel said he won't take the white sox seriously until they're 10 games up? Ha! Trammel, your season's over before the break you tool! What a stupid time to take a team seriously. I know, lets wait until we have to go on a 15 game winning streak to come within 5 games.

they said they think it will be a 1:00 start, the same storm that passed through chicago this morning

The Gigantic all encompassing TRADE THREAD

QUOTE(VAfan @ Jun 30, 2005 -> 12:10 PM) Okay, I looked. I agree that Vizquel (and very few other SS) could not have made a throw from that far. But Uribe didn't have to range that far to get to the ball. The reason the throw was so far was because he started the play in the outfield grass. Can someone look at this and tell me that Uribe started on the outfield grass? I have a hard time believing that Uribe would position himself on the outfield grass with the winning run on 3rd. My work server prevents me from looking at the replay, i am working on memory from last night. -

QUOTE(Milkman delivers @ Jun 30, 2005 -> 11:47 AM) Ha, anyone see this s***? All I say is that Vizquel wouldn't have made the play, but apparently it looked like "Omar Vizquel is a s***ty player, he sucks, and he should die." Honestly, people really twist your words a lot around here. We all think he sucks, dont you know milkman? -

QUOTE(upnorthsox @ Jun 30, 2005 -> 11:41 AM) Yep it's not like Vizquel hasn't done that to us oh about 50 times over the yrs. He really sucks. yeah upnorth, thats what I said. Vizquel sucks. 3 years ago he would have made that play. Now I highly doubt it. Once again, I really like Vizquel. -

go to the whitesox official homepage, you can watch the play under "Uribe's Clutch Play" and decide for yourself if Vizquel would have made the play. Keep in mind that I really like Vizquel and wanted him on the Sox in the offseason. -

QUOTE(VAfan @ Jun 30, 2005 -> 11:24 AM) I'm not in Chicago so I didn't see the game. What was the play he made, and can you say for certain that Omar Vizquel couldn't have made the same play? It's my belief that in the postseason, a 8th or 9th place hitter that is going to get on base on average at least once more per game and who has much better speed is of real value, especially when you are splitting hairs about their defensive differences. bottom of the 9th, runners on 1st and 3rd with Placido Polanco up. Polanco hits a bouncer about 8 feet into the outfield between Crede and Uribe. uribe picked up the ball, planted and fired a bullet to first to get Polanco(who was sliding). The game was over if he didnt make that play. Vizquel doesnt have the arm to make that play. -
QUOTE(Jabroni @ Jun 30, 2005 -> 11:10 AM) I guess Stanton would never get any better against righties, huh? Look at what he did last season... http://mlb.mlb.com/NASApp/mlb/mlb/stats/ml...2681&statType=2 He is a lot better pitcher than what he has shown with the Yankees this season. I see waht you are saying, but he also had alot of innings pitched compared to the year before, and the highest walk total since 1997. With his age, it doesnt look like its getting better for him. He is definitely worth taking a flyer on though.

QUOTE(Cubs Suck23 @ Jun 30, 2005 -> 11:10 AM) How about making a trade for Kent Mercker yeah i am sure Mercker would love to make his return trip to Chicago. Maybe him and stoney can get together and sing kumbayah.

QUOTE(VAfan @ Jun 30, 2005 -> 11:06 AM) I'm not doubting that Uribe has some marginal additional value defensively, but I just don't see it making a significant difference. His defense saved the game last night, it doesnt get any more significant than that. -
QUOTE(Jabroni @ Jun 30, 2005 -> 10:52 AM) I would almost bet my left nut that Kenny is going to get Stanton now. that nut is MINE if you are wrong.
-
QUOTE(daa84 @ Jun 30, 2005 -> 10:30 AM) i know it aint much but thouhgt some of you might wanna see it. i still cant really figure out whether thats much of a compliment about his fastball. i suppose its a compliment about his control, but sayin it dont light up radar guns.... which essentially is nothing we didnt know I know another lefty who doesnt light up the radar gun, has good breaking stuff and control. Mark Buehrle. MPH=overrated

QUOTE(Jabroni @ Jun 30, 2005 -> 09:45 AM) Everett will be in LF in place of Podsednik. Rowand will be in CF and could be leading off unless Ozuna is at SS in place of Uribe. Podsednik needs to take a seat today after that butcher job in CF yesterday.

Does anyone else think that New York is the only place where the owner of the baseball team gets a 12 page pull out birthday issue?

QUOTE(Cerbaho-WG @ Jun 29, 2005 -> 11:23 PM) He did a lot of his spiel on the SomethingAwful forums before his show and was subsequently deemed a f***ing retard. It's only a matter of time before everyone who watches MTV wakes up and says the same thing. you think way too highly of the MTV viewers, Cerbaho.
