  1. QUOTE(Milkman delivers @ Jul 15, 2005 -> 12:05 PM) What in the hell would he want to go to St. Louis for? They already have a great closer in Isringhausen. Well, for one Izzy hasnt been able to stay healthy for the past 3 years. Looks like LaRussa is campaigning for it also. Seems close to tampering to me edit: I always read stuff and forget where I read it. There was an article i read this morning inferring that Wagner was campaigning to go to the Cards, i just cant find it. http://www.stltoday.com/stltoday/sports/st...39?OpenDocument
  2. QUOTE(Chisoxfn @ Jul 15, 2005 -> 11:56 AM) Mihm is a great role player and a solid starter. His problem is he gets into foul trouble often and when that happens he dissapears from the game. The Lakers probably figure Brown will help him out to at least some extent, but this still doesn't solve their low post situation as they still need one more center/pf at the very least. They also have a drastic need for a quality point guard. especially after trading Chucky Atkins.
  3. Wagner has been openly campaigning to go to St Louis. I wonder if he has a no-trade clause?
  4. Thome's back is bad, no? Hasnt he been on the DL half the time he has been with the Phillies?
  5. I think Tony G would be elevated to cult hero status if he returned to the Sox this year.
  6. Kevin Spacey apparently told "Superman Returns" director Bryan Singer, who also helmed "The Usual Suspects," he'll co-star in the sequel to the 1995 caper flick according to Sydney newspaper The Daily Telegraph. The two were overheard by a waitress talking about said project whilst having dinner during the shoot - take that for what you will.
  7. QUOTE(AddisonStSox @ Jul 15, 2005 -> 11:19 AM) One of those situations I'll certainly take your word on it. My memories of "Nah-ten" are mostly of the 2000 season where he had 7 errors. I still think the guy can hit MLB pitching though. As for Freel, I wonder what the Reds would be asking. If he has gotten his off-the-field situation under control, he would be a very valuable asset to a pennant-run. As you've already stated, he has excellent speed (he may actually beat Podsednik in a straight race), a very impressive OBP and is verstile--something Ozzie LOVES. ...things are going to get mightttttttttty interesting over the next week or two. ??????????????
  8. QUOTE(JimH @ Jul 15, 2005 -> 11:11 AM) I tend to agree but here's the good news. The Sox are looking, and they're being aggressive about it. If we are looking at a rental, I tend to prefer a crafty veteran with postseason experience. Pretty sure Glavine has a full no trade anyways, plus he and Reinsdorf might not be on the best of terms, just me speculating. Have the two of them ever had a history?
  9. QUOTE(Big Hurt Way Back @ Jul 15, 2005 -> 10:58 AM) After last night it would seem like a horrible trade. MArte shocked the s*** oput of me and struck out all 3 batters he faced. We need him in the bullpen if he can fix his control problem. And Burnett got rocked. I think we just need to sit back for a while and let things play out and maybe make a deal only if it is great deal. The Sox have 15 days to sit back and let things play out. Alot could happen between now and then
  10. I really like Ryan Freel, dont know about his availability though
  11. Its funny how the Twins are now attached to the very same trade rumors as the Sox
  12. Phillies general manager Ed Wade would not confirm or deny last night that the club is trying to trade veteran first baseman Jim Thome. According to a report in USA Today Sports Weekly, two National League teams claim that the Phils are shopping Thome, who is on the disabled list with tendinitis in his right elbow. "I don't comment on trade rumors," Wade said before the Phillies met Florida at Citizens Bank Park. Trading Thome would be difficult for several reasons. First, he is in the third year of a six-year, $85 million contract and few teams can afford that payout. Second, he has a complete no-trade clause, so he must approve any trade. Third, he turns 35 on Aug. 27. According to the published report, officials from two National League clubs said the Phillies have been trying to deal Thome before the July 31 trade deadline. The teams were asked by the Phils not to publicly convey their intentions, the report said.
  13. QUOTE(beck72 @ Jul 15, 2005 -> 09:07 AM) good point. The Boone move was pretty desperate. but him being a FA next yr, and not costing them much talent [maybe some money, I don't even know the specifics of the deal but wasn't that big] was a small move. I didnt think the cost of Boone was the desperate part. I thought the acquisition of boone was the desperation. The Twins are hurting in the infield so bad that they brought in a former all-star who has fallen very far from stardom, hoping that he can regain the spark. That was a White Sox move circa 1997-2003. The Twins usually make a cost concientious move for a up and coming player, and part with some talent(ie Joe Nathan, Shannon Stewart).
  14. QUOTE(Y2HH @ Jul 15, 2005 -> 09:00 AM) It's when a CD/DVD has a hernia. Seriously though, I beleive it's when discs in your back are slightly jutting out, which put pressure on your spine, which can cause numbness in limbs, etc. Though I'm not a Doctor, so I may be a little off on that...but I believe that's right. Noun 1. herniated disc - a painful rupture of the fibrocartilage of the disc between spinal vertebrae; occurs most often in the lumbar region When the soft part between bones in the spine presses on the nerves around the backbone, it's called a herniated disk. The word "herniate" (say: her-nee-ate) means to bulge or to stick out. Sometimes this is called a ruptured disk. Herniated disks are most common in the lumbar spine--the part of your backbone between the bottom of your ribs and your hips. Disks are soft "cushions" between the bones of the spine. The spine holds up your body. It also protects your spinal cord and nerves. The disks in the spine let you move your backbone.
  15. QUOTE(beck72 @ Jul 15, 2005 -> 08:58 AM) Except the Twins hardly ever do deals that either 1] take on money or 2] give up top prospects The Twins havent been this far back in a long time. Desperate times call for desperate measures (cough Bret Boone cough)
  16. I prefer the term Bastage, if only because it gets stuck in certain people's heads......
  17. QUOTE(Winnin Ugly @ Jul 15, 2005 -> 08:49 AM) Burnett's availability will continue tantalizing contenders who can afford the asking price. Among the teams with high-level scouts at Thursday's game: the Red Sox (special assistant to the General Manager Bill Lajoie), Rangers (Director of Player Personnel Dom Chiti), and Twins (assistant GM Wayne Krivsky). Now that bothers me alot. If there is any team out there that could probably trump us all with prospects, its the Twins.
  18. QUOTE(Y2HH @ Jul 15, 2005 -> 08:53 AM) Reinsdorf did...because they didn't cost a lot. Jay Mariotti, your table is ready.....
  19. QUOTE(LosMediasBlancas @ Jul 15, 2005 -> 08:40 AM) It's been a long time, how do I get there from the northside? I remember this much: Dan Ryan south, then switch to I-57 Memphis. What do I do after that? Also, I need to be there at 7:00 tonight, what time should I head out? Any other time saving shortcuts would be appreciated, thx guys. Give me until noon. My buddy knows a backway through Homewood-Flossmoor that completely bypasses almost ALL of the traffic. I will PM it to you later.
  20. Start the chant now. Randa Randa Randa Randa
  21. QUOTE(Y2HH @ Jul 15, 2005 -> 08:46 AM) I definatly agree it was spent wisely...but that credit goes to KW and Ozzie...which I have given them. Wait a second though, who hired Ozzie and KW?
  22. QUOTE(Y2HH @ Jul 15, 2005 -> 08:36 AM) Tell that to Kansas City. I'd rather have our payroll than KC's...and I'd rather have Boston's than ours. Does it guarantee a championship...no, but it usually ups the odds. Large payroll does not equate to championships at all. Its a combination of talent evaluation, timing, and payroll. The Tampa Bay Devil Rays, Orioles(multiple times), Seattle Mariners, and many other teams have tried to buy championships only to fall on their faces. Jerry may "only" be spending 75 million right now, but its 75 million spent wisely, wouldnt you agree?
  23. Welcome to Soxtalk LOL
  24. ESPN is reporting that Harden is 6 outs from a perfect game against the Rangers. He just hit 99 on the gun.

QUOTE(SoxFanForever @ Jul 14, 2005 -> 09:38 PM) It was Judd Nelson. I'm pretty sure. They were both in it. Nelson was Rodimus Prime and Welles was Unicron
